(BPT) - JoAnne Foody, M.D., FACC, FAHA, Chief Medical Officer at Esperion February marks the start of American Heart Month — a month dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular health and heart disease prevention. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every 34 seconds, one person dies in the United States from cardiovascular disease (CVD). For women in particular, CVD is the number one killer, resulting in one in three deaths each year. Despite these staggering statistics, few people recognize the impact of cardiovascular disease on women compared to other health issues that affect women such as breast cancer, reproductive disorders, mental health conditions and more. As a cardiologist, physician researcher and advocate for women’s health, shedding light on these hard truths surrounding CVD is a mission that’s near and dear to me. Cardiovascular disease is one of the greatest health threats our communities face, and it has never been more … [Read more...] about American Heart Month: Why regular testing is critical for protecting women’s heart health

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 15 Mardi Gras is right around the corner, and that means Lousiana natives living in Texas are starting to get the urge to eat all things Creole and Cajun in preparation for Fat Tuesday. Luckily, as our friends at KPRC recently reminded us , you can strike two birds with one stone and combine the two most Louisiana things ever into one dish: the boudin king cake. Robert Carriker, a professor of at the University of Louisiana and founder of boudinlink.com and kingcaker.com, told the Beaumont Enterprise in 2015 that he was the original inventor of the doughy boudin-stuffed treat. When he posted a recipe for the boudin king cake on his website in 2015, he said it exploded in popularity. H-E-B employee’s petition for grocery chain to change sick leave gains traction

February 1, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

An anonymous H-E-B employee is calling for company CEO Howard Butt, III to change the grocery store's sick day policy after alleging they were told to continue working after testing positive for COVID-19 on Jan. 1, 2023. "While I wasn't running a fever, I had terrible symptoms and by all means should have been encouraged to stay at home," the person posted in January, along with their petition . The employee states that the sick leave issue arose because of their testing positive for COVID, however the petition argues against the H-E-B's sick policy as a whole. The company's previous policy allowed employees to call out sick eight times over the span of a year. Now, employees could potentially lose their job if they call out more than three times in six months, according to a June 2022 article published by the San Antonio Report. H-E-B company policy uses a step system to track an employee's attendance, according to reporter Waylon Cunningham. Employees gain steps if they miss … [Read more...] about H-E-B employee’s petition for grocery chain to change sick leave gains traction

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 17 Houston nightlife operator Cle Group is taking a big step on the local hospitality scene with the announcement of its first restaurant concept, Bisou , set to open this fall at River Oaks District, 4444 Westheimer. Bisou will take the place of Taverna, the recently closed restaurant from the Dallas-based Lombardi Family Concepts, which also operates Toulouse Café and Bar at River Oaks District. No word on why Taverna shuttered. Cle Group is well known to the party set as operators of the hot spots Cle and Spire. Bisou, French for "kiss," will be helmed by chef Frederic Perrier, who Houston foodies may remember from the French restaurant Aura in Missouri City and Sugar Land. Perrier, a native of Lyon, France, is a member of Master Chefs of France. "We always had the goal of expanding our … [Read more...] about Owners of Cle nightclub to open Bisou restaurant at River Oaks District this fall

First look: Bisou restaurant at River Oaks District

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 21 The owners of Houston nightclub Cle worked hard to get the world's best deejay talent to the razzle dazzle club that has redefined Houston nightlife. And now those same partners have employed considerable effort – and no small amount of showy sophistication – to bring a new, high level of dining to Houston with Bisou ("kiss" in French), opening for dinner tonight at River Oaks District, 4444 Westheimer. Armed with a knockout design and a chef who happens to be among the most elite classically trained chefs in the country, Bisou is ready to start doling out the charm and maybe even a few pecks on the cheek. The 5,500-square foot restaurant, in the former Taverna that closed in June, represents a huge leap for the Cle Group that operates Cle and Spire nightclubs. It's a new … [Read more...] about First look: Bisou restaurant at River Oaks District
