The X in today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe 280ZX stands for X-sports car, as the model is more a GT than a corner crusher like its immediate predecessor. Some people do like their cars to be a bit softer, but will this classic coupe’s price put you between a rock and a hard place? Did you ever stop to think why it was that ‘Three Strikes’ became the universal determinant of negative action? There’s the Three Strikes in baseball, the Three Strikes law that could put you away for good, and of course the popular Three Strikes segment on the long-running game show, The Price is Right. Last Friday’s 2005 Subaru Legacy GT wagon had a lot going for it, but it also had three strikes. Those three major issues were a dead cylinder, a noisy transmission, and a hail damaged body. Any one of those individually could have been taken as a reasonable challenge. But at $3,000, all three strikes together killed the car’s chances, resulting in a 73-percent Crack … [Read more...] about At $18,500, Could You T-Top This 1982 Datsun 280ZX?
Being a cylinder down and having a whiffle ball body makes today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe Legacy a bit of a daunting proposition. Let’s see if its price can turn things around. My brother gave me a metal sign a few years ago that’s says ‘Still Plays With Cars.’ I put it up in the garage—or as I call it, the playroom—and smile now and then as I pass by it. It’s a testament to the fact that while I have grown older, my maturity level remains a bit stunted. We’re lucky if we manage to grow old. We’re even luckier if we do so without really growing up. The seller of yesterday’s 1992 Isuzu Amigo claims to have aged out of both his car tinkering and camping days, and has hence put his flawed friend up for sale. Hopefully someone with a little time and the wherewithal will be able to fix the truck’s stumbles and stalls and make it a reasonably reliable driver. That seemed to be the opinion of fully 65-percent of you, … [Read more...] about At $3,000, Might This 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon’s Awesomeness Let You Excuse Its Flaws?
Remember when Volvos were boxy and fast? Today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe V70 R remembers. Let’s see if this hot box’s price makes it even more memorable. The fusillade of comments on yesterday’s 1988 Toyota Camry AllTrac, complaining that it was ‘just a Camry’ and that it looked ‘too rusty’ proved a woeful point—that a number of you have joined the ranks of the SUV crowd. Look, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Some of my best friends are SUV owners. Hell, for all we know, my wife might even drive one. Some of us however, aren’t ready to give up on other, less tall automotive options. For us, that Camry did not look too bland nor too great a sacrifice to the rust gods to save. And, at $2,900, it took home a 58-percent Nice Price win too. You know, if anything is going to snap a former enthusiast out of the tippy-trippy SUV cult, it’s going to be this 2004 Volvo V70 R. Consider this, the car offers AWD, three row … [Read more...] about At $7,999, Could This 2004 Volvo V70 R Feed Your Need For Swede?
Look at today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe Toyota truck and then look at both its age and its mileage. Yeah, something just doesn’t add up. We’re going to find out if that something, is its price. At first glance, yesterday’s 2004 VW R32 was somewhat of a puzzlement. The car was claimed to have ‘a clean blue Texas title,’ which should be taken to mean it’s never been junked and rebuilt. That however, was called into question initially by the weird choices of endowing the nose with a later bumper cap, and switching the R32 seats for lesser chairs. The final blow came by way of Jalop deluxe, As Du Volant, who went to the trouble of grabbing the CarFax report on the car. That damning document showed two accidents including a troubling ‘disabling damage’ event in 2011. As you might expect, all that adds up to something, but not to an $8,750 price. If you haven’t already guessed, that dunned the car to a 63-percent Crack Pipe loss. … [Read more...] about At $7,799, Could You Picture Yourself In This Sweet 1993 Toyota Pickup?
