Scott Keyes has been finding and sharing cheap flight deals since 2013 after he scored a mistake fare that made his friends envious: a scheduling error got him a roundtrip ticket from New York City to Milan for $130. What started as a hobby – and a service for friends and colleagues – has since grown to a business with more than 2 million subscribers and a team 65 people strong. The name he first gave his newsletter — Scott’s Cheap Flights — now seems misleading and limiting, Keyes told SFGATE this week. The company’s new name, Going , and sleek branding to go with it, went live earlier this month. Keyes, the company’s founder and chief flight expert, says the changes encompass the company’s old mission (finding people cheap flights) with its goal of providing personalized flight deals as well as helpful travel guides. Keyes expects 2023 to be a really good travel year with fares dropping at least 5% compared to 2022, fewer full flights (meaning more elbow room!), some cheap … [Read more...] about How to score cheap flights (and mistake fares) in 2023

Colton Herta was willing to race in a fourth-tier series to score super licence points
Eager to score the necessary points for a Formula 1 super licence, Colton Herta was willing to race in the Formula Regional Americas championship as it has more points available than even Indy Lights. The IndyCar driver was heavily linked to a move to AlphaTauri for the 2023 season, Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko making it clear that they’d allow Pierre Gasly to leave for Alpine if they could sign Herta. However, the American IndyCar driver lacked the necessary super licence points. Herta sat on 32 points with the FIA requiring a driver to score 40 before they’re allowed to compete in Formula 1. His father, Bryan, reportedly approached FR FRegional series race director Scott Goodyear to find a way for the 22-year-old to add to his tally. The FIA, Goodyear says, wouldn’t allow it. “We offer super licence points to the drivers competing in our series and if you win the F3/FR FRegional series in this country you are awarded more points than if you win the Indy Lights … [Read more...] about Colton Herta was willing to race in a fourth-tier series to score super licence points
James Vowles on what he expects to find when taking over at Williams
New Williams team boss James Vowles isn’t downplaying the challenge that awaits him, admitting sweeping changes, including the “culture”, need to be made. But, he believes that with Dorilton Capital’s backing, he can make it happen. Following on from Formula 1’s driver silly season, the team bosses engaged in one of their own that, as its final play, saw Williams announce Vowles as Jost Capito’s replacement. Capito’s exit was one of the more unexpected, the German paying the price for an underwhelming first season under Formula 1’s all-new technical regulations, one that saw the Grove squad slump to P10. Vowles will take up the reins in February with the former Mercedes strategy director conceding a lot needs to “change” at Williams for them to return to former glory. He, however, believes that with Dorilton Capital’s support, it is possible. “It’s hard to answer what’s wrong,” he said as per Sky Sports, “simply because I haven’t set foot inside and my contact has been … [Read more...] about James Vowles on what he expects to find when taking over at Williams
WRC Monte Carlo: Dominant Ogier scores record ninth victory
Listen to this article Ogier and new co-driver Vincent Landais clinched nine of the 18 stages in what proved to be an unusually dry WRC season opener to claim a comfortable win by 18.8s from world champions Kalle Rovanpera and Jonne Halttunen. Competing in only a partial campaign, Ogier once again outlined his supreme knowledge of the twisty Monte Carlo roads, and was never headed throughout the four days of competition. After winning the first five stages, Ogier established a relatively comfortable lead initially over Toyota team-mate Elfyn Evans, who appeared to be the only driver able to compete with the Frenchman. Ogier’s streak of stage wins was completed despite losing hybrid boost for two stages on Friday morning, and after a late gearbox change due to a clutch issue. Once Evans suffered a right rear puncture in Stage 5, Ogier was gifted a lead he would extend to 36.0s before Rovanpera found his rhythm and began to whittle the advantage down. Rovanpera managed … [Read more...] about WRC Monte Carlo: Dominant Ogier scores record ninth victory

Albon still finding F1 radio “sweet spot” at Williams after early aggression
Listen to this article Albon signed for Williams ahead of the 2022 season after spending a year in a reserve role with Red Bull, who had dropped him from its full-time line-up at the end of 2020. The Anglo-Thai driver enjoyed an impressive season for Williams, leading its efforts at the back of the grid by scoring four of its eight points and winning praise for his efforts. It resulted in Albon signing a multi-year contract to stay at Williams beyond 2022. But senior figures within Williams spoke of wanting Albon to be firmer with the team outside of the car, including former technical director FX Demaison, who said in Brazil that Albon “needs to be a bit more hard with the team and push us a bit more.” Albon acknowledged it was “tricky” to strike the right balance, but was confident that he is able to “achieve a lot with what I say.” “When things aren’t right, I speak up,” Albon told Motorsport.com. “When things are out of our control, I also don’t feel it’s … [Read more...] about Albon still finding F1 radio “sweet spot” at Williams after early aggression
‘Till’ review: Finding hope in American tragedy
The timing of “Till,” a film about the aftermath of the horrific, white supremacist 1955 slaying of 14-year-old Emmett Till , is fascinating. Earlier this year, a federal anti-lynching bill bearing Till’s name finally became law, 67 years after his murder. The cultural currency of that name has surged after the cultural moment the Black Lives Matter movement forced on America. Yet “Till” took so long to be made that its arrival has raised a new concern: Do Black audiences care to face the agony of the boy’s martyrdom? There's a growing sentiment that these films mainly re-traumatize Black audiences and turn Black suffering into spectacle for the White Gaze. This has become such a point of contention that the director of “Till,” Nigerian-American Chinonye Chukwu, felt the need to record a special message for the trailer assuring wary viewers that this was not trauma porn and images of Till being brutalized did not appear in the film. And it’s true: “Till” isn’t trauma porn. It is … [Read more...] about ‘Till’ review: Finding hope in American tragedy
Why motorsport’s love of esports has been bad news for simracers · RaceFans

And if the event needed any more legitimacy, it could do no better than the participation of Max Verstappen – the reigning two-time Formula 1 world champion.
