The attack on the town of al-Bab came days after a Turkish airstrike killed at least 11 Syrian troops and U.S.-backed Kurdish fighters. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, blamed Syrian government forces for the shelling Friday, saying it was in retaliation for the Turkish airstrike. The Observatory said the attack killed 15 people, including three children, and wounded more than 30. The opposition’s Syrian Civil Defense, also known as White Helmets, had the same death but said 28 were wounded. The paramedic group said its members evacuated some of the wounded and the dead bodies. “This is the worst massacres committed … [Read more...] about Market blast in north Syria kills 15 people, wounds dozens

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Cambodia on Friday said it is attempting to aid foreigners who have been victimized by human traffickers, after Taiwan said it is seeking to free more than 300 of its citizens who were lured to the Southeast Asian nation by organized crime groups. The mostly well-educated young people were promised high wages for tech jobs, but then were forced to work in call centers, scamming mainly mainland Chinese into making payments for non-existent government fees or investment opportunities. Interior Minister Sar Kheng said his ministry is launching a nationwide check of all foreigners living in Cambodia, aside from embassy personnel. He said it will search especially for foreigners who have been victimized by human traffickers. He said police in two provinces, Kandal and Preah Sihanoukville, on Thursday checked the status of foreigners residing or working at … [Read more...] about Cambodia says it’s helping foreigners scammed by traffickers

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 It would be easy to look at professional triathlete Rach McBride and assume they always feel at home at a starting line. They've placed at world championship races, won Ironman 70.3 (half Ironman) races and conquered the field at gravel cycling races. But until last year, that wasn't the case. Despite a long, impressive list of titles and accomplishments, McBride (they/them), a 44-year-old Canadian, always felt a bit out of place when lining up. At the 2021 Big Sugar Gravel race in Arkansas, however, everything changed. Big Sugar was the first event in which McBride had the opportunity to race in a nonbinary category. The event, says McBride, was nothing short of life-changing. "For a person outside the gender binary, it can be really dysphoric to have to check an 'M' or 'F' box on a registration form, be misgendered at a start or finish line, to have to use gendered … [Read more...] about Endurance sports make a life-changing update for nonbinary athletes

Michael Masi reportedly closing in on return to motorsport after FIA exit

August 19, 2022 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Ex-Formula 1 race director Michael Masi is reportedly on the verge of being named as the new chairman of the Supercars Commission. Masi took over as Formula 1 race director in 2019 following the sudden passing of Charlie Whiting, though his time in the role ended under very controversial circumstances. The Aussie’s decisions at the 2021 season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix directly influenced the outcome of the World Championship, as Max Verstappen snatched the title from Lewis Hamilton on the final lap, denying him a record eighth crown. Prior to the 2022 campaign getting underway, Masi was removed from the race director position as part of a restructuring of Race Control, before departing the FIA completely in July. Speaking to Speedcafe.com after his exit from the FIA, Masi said: “It has been a pleasure and honour representing the FIA as the single-seater sporting director and FIA Formula 1 race director and safety delegate since Charlie [Whiting’s] unexpected and … [Read more...] about Michael Masi reportedly closing in on return to motorsport after FIA exit
