Gaming is thriving. An entire generation is growing up gaming. Two billion gamers and counting. They play at home, on the go and on multiple platforms, and by far the most vibrant, innovative and open is the PC. The forces driving PC gaming are staggering in scale. Take the battle royale genre — think Fortnite, Call of Duty Blackout and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It’s had a meteoric rise from zero to a player base of 300 million across platforms in just two years, bringing many new players to PC gaming and GeForce. Consider the unstoppable rise of esports. It’s the fastest growing spectator sport and is on track to amass close to 600 million fans by 2020. That’s 2x in just three years. Worldwide prize money exceeded $150 million, also 2x in three years. Performance and fast response (frames per second and latency, respectively) are the top considerations for esports gamers, making GeForce the preferred GPU for top tournaments and pro gamers. LISTEN up boys and girls – I can officially settle a Christmas debate which has been raging for years. Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer is a . . . BOY. Back in 2009 a bunch of snooty scientists caused uproar by declaring that Santa’s number one driver was female. From a sterile laboratory — which no doubt had never seen a shred of tinsel or crumb of mince pie — some blokes with a load of letters after their names said Rudolf had to be female because only female reindeer keep their antlers at Christmas time. Not so. While it’s true females do, male reindeer with their, er, walnuts clipped off also keep their antlers, and the many ancient cultures which still to this day put reindeer to work use gelded males to do the heavy lifting. I consider Rudolf, Blitzen et al powering the delivery of 1.6billion presents to kids across the planet in 24 hours heavy lifting, don’t you? The right vehicle is crucial This is just … [Read more...] about Jaguar F Pace goes nose-to-nose with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and friends in the Scottish mountains
Believe it or not, the R35 Nissan GT-R is 11 years old. It has enjoyed considerable success along the way, but after a decade, perhaps it’s time to up the ante. Nissan has already started working on designing and engineering an all-new platform for the next-generation GT-R. However, the carmaker has yet to decide how much electrification the car’s powertrain will get. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Nissan design boss Alfonso Albaisa told Autocar that the R36 won’t take cues from the limited-run GT-R50, but “has to be its own special car,” adding that it has to be “the fastest super sports car in the world” and retain a visual identity that’s unique among cars of its kind. While Albaisa constantly reviews sketches for the supercar, he said his team cannot begin ‘serious work’ until decisions about the powertrain and the new platform is finalised. “The challenge is on the engineer, to be honest. We will do our jobs … [Read more...] about Next Nissan GT-R to be fastest supercar in the world?
Whether a person knows cars in and out or could be tricked into trying to buy blinker fluid, when most of us think of sports cars, we think of sleek, fast and refined. Nissan’s design boss, instead, insists the company’s next six-figure GT-R supercar be “the world’s fastest brick. Less wing, more brick.” Honestly, that’s refreshing and accurate. Nissan’s current sports-car lineup is made up of a bunch of big ol’ fast bricks, including the current GT-R that makes 565 horsepower standard, and Nissan just want to make big ol’ faster bricks in the future. In the age of expensive sports cars that look like amphibious fish creatures and bugs that could slice you in half, a brick approach is... wholesome, in more ways than one. It’s nice. In an interview with Autocar, Nissan design boss Alfonso Albaisa didn’t say how the new GT-R would become the world’s fastest brick—whether by some level of electrification or none … [Read more...] about Nissan Design Boss Wants Next GT-R to Be the ‘World’s Fastest Brick’
Nissan is still in a very early stage of designing and engineering a completely new platform for the next-gen GT-R. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer has still to decide if, and how, it will implement electrification on the model’s new powertrain. Nevertheless, Nissan’s design boss Alfonso Albaisa told Autocar that the next GT-R will not take styling cues from the GTR-50 that made its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Instead, he claimed, Nissan’s halo performance car “has to be its own special car” as well as “the fastest super sports car in the world”. While Albaisa is constantly reviewing design proposals for the new GT-R, he admitted that his team can’t begin serious work until decisions about the powertrain and new platform are finalized. “The challenge is on the engineer, to be honest,” he said. “We will do our jobs when the time comes to make the car something really special. But we’re not even … [Read more...] about Nissan Design Chief Claims Next GT-R Will Be “The World’s Fastest Brick”
