Walt Disney once mused that it’s “kind of fun to do the impossible,” so it’s likely the animation mogul would’ve been impressed by last year’s reports that fully-autonomous vehicles could soon be shuttling passengers around the amusement park in Florida that bears his name. Driverless cars are, after all, one of the most challenging—impossible, perhaps—technological tasks of our time. But the Disney project has fallen into disarray, Jalopnik found, after the companies aiming to bring the idea to fruition ended up in court accusing one another of stealing blueprints for the crucial technology needed to make driverless cars work. And more than just an interesting look at how a new way to shuffle around the Magic Kingdom fell through, it’s an example of just how contentious this technology is right now. Little more than two weeks ago Lexie Roy from West Drayton was playing in the local park when she fell off her swing - a stumble which usually results in a few cuts and bruises. But once she started being sick, mum Chloe knew something wasn't right. The 27-year-old took her daughter to the doctors and one day later a scan revealed Lexie had a tumour on her kidney and the fall in the park caused pressure, resulting in internal bleeding. Three rounds of chemotherapy and one operation later, friends and family are raising money to fly Lexie to Disney World in Florida - and they need your help. "She went to the park, she fell off a swing and she started being sick so we took her to the doctors," Chloe told getwestlondon. "We couldn't figure out what was wrong because it wasn't a head injury so she … [Read more...] about Community unites to fly cancer fighter, 6, to Disney World
Associated Press Updated 1:51 p.m. UTC Aug 25, 2018 Orlando, Fla. – Walt Disney World will begin paying a starting wage of $15 an hour in less than three years if a new agreement is approved by workers next month. The company and a coalition of unions reached the tentative deal late Friday after a year of negotiations. Disney’s unionized workers will vote in early September on the proposal to raise the starting minimum wage from $10 to $15 an hour by 2021. The deal covers about half of Disney World’s 70,000 workers in metro Orlando. If approved, it could have a big impact in the theme park mecca since Disney tends to influence what other Orlando tourism businesses pay their workers. … [Read more...] about Disney World could start pay at $15 an hour
