Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to bring his "Fast and Furious" character Luke Hobbs back to the big screen. This time around, however, he's the star in a spinoff from the main franchise. Titled "Hobbs and Shaw," the film features The Rock and co-star Jason Statham reprising his role as Deckard Shaw. "Hobbs and Shaw" will hit theaters on July 26, 2019, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Also joining the cast is Idris Elba. Known for portraying great characters in the HBO series "The Wire," within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and in "Pacific Rim," among many other memorable roles, Elba will serve as the villain in this one. We don't know anything about the story line just yet, but it's safe to assume that Hobbs and Shaw will reluctantly join forces to bring down bad-guy Elba. This film will take place in the "Fast and Furious" universe, and it's being written by a man who understands this world. Screenplay writer Chris Morgan wrote "The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift," "Fast … [Read more...] about The Rock to star in “Fast and Furious” spin-off, “Hobbs and Shaw”

I totally understand why they made a Need For Speed movie, I just will never understand why they didn’t bother to make a good Need For Speed movie. This movie so openly rips off the Fast And The Furious franchise I wouldn’t be surprised to learn the script started as a parody. (Welcome back to Jalopnik Movie Club, where we take a look at cars in movies and movies about cars, and you write in with all of your hot takes. This week, we’re reviewing Need For Speed, a movie about how inadequate the prison system is at reforming repeat criminals!) Need For Speed is a 2014 action street racing movie that has no confidence in itself. Despite starring Michael Keaton, at-the-time-white-hot Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, rising star Remi Malek, and artist Kid Cudi of all people, the movie manages to lack any charisma and none of the characters are remotely interesting. The story focuses on Aaron Paul’s character, Tobey, who runs a small mechanic’s shop with a … [Read more...] about Need For Speed Is Like Someone Tried To Remake Fast And Furious Without Ever Actually Seeing It
Fast And Furious star Paul Walker died earlier this evening after a car accident in Santa Clarita, California. Multiple reports indicate Walker, 40, was a passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT that collided with a pole and caused a fire. Walker and the driver, Roger Rodas, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Here's the statement from Walker's management team that appeared on his Facebook page: It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. - #TeamPW Universal Studios has released the following statement: All of us at Universal … [Read more...] about Fast And Furious Star Paul Walker Killed In Fiery Car Accident
The Transporter’s stunt choreography and car chases were so good it launched the career of Jason Statham, and conned me into buying a BMW as a teenager. I’m not sure which was a more significant contribution to the culture. You be the judge. (Welcome back to Jalopnik Movie Club, where we take a look at cars in movies and movies about cars, and you write in with all of your hot takes. This week, we’re reviewing The Transporter, a movie about how it’s cool if you illegally transport stuff unless it’s a container full of people and you’re not the main character.) I grew up steeped in what I like to consider the action movie renaissance, with great movies like The Bourne Identity, The Matrix, Hero, The Boondock Saints, Mission Impossible, GoldenEye, Ronin, Charlie’s Angels, Rush Hour, The Fast And The Furious, Blade, Kill Bill and many more. Yeah, the ‘80s had Die Hard, Robocop, Aliens, The Terminator and scores more, but it was the … [Read more...] about The Transporter Is Like Fast And Furious All Grown Up

Yes, you read that headline right: An animated Fast and Furious show. Personally, I don’t even need to know what it’s about, nor do I very much care, but I guess I should go ahead and find out for your sake. Since most of you aren’t die-hard fans like I am. Netflix has teamed up with DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures and will produce a straight-to-series animated show that’s based on the world’s favorite automotive franchise, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Here’s what the show will be about: The Fast and the Furious animated show revolves around teenager Tony Toretto, who follows in the footsteps of his cousin Dom when he and his friends are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate an elite racing league serving as a front for a nefarious crime organization bent on world domination. The series is executive produced by Vin Diesel, Neal Moritz and Chris Morgan who also serve as producers on the live-action Fast and the Furious … [Read more...] about There’s An Animated Fast And Furious Show Coming To Netflix And You Know I’m Already On Board
The Fast and The Furious roared into theaters nearly 17 years ago and it has spawned seven different sequels and a live show. While some would debate whether or not the movie was worthy of such a massive franchise, Mitsubishi Motors UK has created a one-off L200 which will play a starring role in the Fast & Furious Live arena tour which kicks off later this month. Described as a “radically reworked” version of the L200, the double-cab pickup has been equipped with an external roll cage which “wraps around the wheel arches, front bumpers and custom-fabricated, laser-cut metalwork.” The truck’s bodywork has been customized to give its unique suspension as much travel as possible. Other unique features include a two-tone livery with orange accents, a side-exiting exhaust and massive rear wheels which measure 15×15 inches. Interior changes are relatively minor but Mitsubishi says the cabin has carbon fiber bucket seats and four-point racing harnesses. … [Read more...] about Mitsubishi Made This L200 Pickup For Fast And Furious Live
Here at Jalopnik, we get a lot of press releases, marketing pitches, spam and emails. Most of them I half-heartedly archive, but one caught my eye today: a pitch with the subject line “David Leitch to direct Fast & Furious spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham.” And I got very excited because I initially and very quickly read that as “David Lynch to direct Fast & Furious spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham.” Alas, that is not the case. I am here to report that unfortunately, and against Hollywood’s better judgment, the Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive director is not in fact helming a Fast & Furious spinoff. And that sucks, because I believe that should happen. Anyway, EW reports that David Leitch, who directed Atomic Blonde (which I liked) and is doing Deadpool 2, is making a spin-off of the car franchise starring characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, played by Johnson and Statham, respectively. This is … [Read more...] about What Would David Lynch’s Fast And Furious Look Like?
