Last month we outlined how precariously Formula 1’s fortunes hinge upon its share price , in turn driven by factors surrounding the sport and the subsequent opinions of investment analysts. Yet, many of these have seldom – if ever – seen a grand prix live or on TV, and base their (critical) analyses on developments that profoundly affect stock value. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free In a nutshell, uncertainty immediately knocks the price; positive, hard news gradually boosts it. At the time we flagged two dates: November 8th, on which F1’s commercial rights holder Liberty Media would field investor calls on Q3 earnings; and November 14th, Liberty Media’s Annual Investor Day, at which the results and prospects of group entities are presented to shareholders. F1 in particular seemed to leave the investment community distinctly lukewarm. During the investor call F1’s share prices – A Class FWONA and C Class FWONK – dipped. Steeper falls followed the call’s … [Read more...] about RacingLines: What is and isn’t behind F1’s share price moves – RaceFans

Adam Sandler doesn’t need your respect. He just wants to make you laugh.
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 EDITORS: EMBARGOED UNTIL SUNDAY, MARCH 19 - - - PITTSBURGH - During every Adam Sandler stand-up show, he straps on his electric guitar and sings a song. Unlike the bite-size ditties he's peppered through the set about selfies or baggy shorts, this one concerns his late, great "Saturday Night Live" buddy, Chris Farley. It is a perfect tribute. Sandler, singing softly as he strums in G, captures the complicated beauty of Farley as clips of his most memorable high jinks play on a giant screen behind him. The crowd roars as he references Farley's electrifying SNL turns as a Chippendales dancer and a motivational speaker "living in a van down by the river." There is a hush as Sandler slips into the bridge, a peek into his friend's vulnerability. "I saw him in the office, crying with his headphones on "Listening to a KC and the Sunshine Band song "I said, 'Buddy, how the hell is … [Read more...] about Adam Sandler doesn’t need your respect. Could Pirelli have a new rival? FIA launch tyre supplier tender from F1 2025 season
Formula 1 could soon have a new tyre supplier after the FIA opened the process to bidders for the 2025 season onwards. While tyre wars in Formula 1 used to be commonplace, they became a thing of the past when Bridgestone first became the exclusive provider and the sport has since only leaned on one company for its tyre needs. In 2011, that company became Pirelli who continue to supply tyres until this day but their monopoly on the sport’s rubber could soon change with the FIA opening the door for another manufacturer to come in. Following the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the FIA announced it was seeking potential suppliers for the 2025 season onwards in a deal that could last for four seasons. The successful applicant will also gain the contract for the Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships. The brief is not too dissimilar from the current contract with the F1 tyres set to remain at 18 inches but, in line with the sport’s push for more sustainability, the successful candidates … [Read more...] about Could Pirelli have a new rival? Analysis: Why Haas’s protest ‘defeat’ was really a win – RaceFans
“The stewards decide to dismiss the protests lodged by Haas Formula One Team”, concluded the stewards’ verdict on the team’s case against Force India. But what looks like a defeat on paper may prove a victory in the long-term. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Contrary to the bottom line verdict in the Haas F1 Team versus Racing Point Force India (RPFI) matter – in which the former unsuccessfully alleged that the latter is not, in fact a constructor as defined within the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, and thus not an eligible in the 2018 F1 championship – Haas are the real winners here, for the stewards found that RPFI is a factually new team. Team principal Guenther Steiner admitted this was their goal when he spoke to Sky after the verdict was handed down. “The argument was they are, in our opinion, a new constructor, because they came in with a new licence.” This was a point Force India tried to challenge in the hearing. The stewards rejected … [Read more...] about Analysis: Why Haas’s protest ‘defeat’ was really a win – RaceFans
Dusty Baker talks Hank Aaron memories, reveals why he joined Astros
With the start of the Houston Astros ' World Series defense a little more than a week away, manager Dusty Baker provided insight into his one-of-a-kind baseball journey. Appearing on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, Baker discusses an array of topics—including the impact his father and Hank Aaron had on Baker's life, his Hall of Fame candidacy and the decision to take over the Astros in wake of the team's sign-stealing scandal . Baker said in the opening of the interview, which first airs Tuesday night at 9 p.m., that he received roughly 1,500 text messages after Houston's World Series win over the Philadelphia Phillies, with Barack Obama, Snoop Dogg, Sandy Koufax and Joe Montana among those who reached out. Baker entered the 2022 playoffs with three Manager of the Year awards and over 2,000 regular-season wins on his resume, but his managerial career was still lacking a World Series title. That changed during Game 6 of last year's Fall Classic. "A lot of people … [Read more...] about Dusty Baker talks Hank Aaron memories, reveals why he joined Astros
Esteban Ocon predicts ‘stupid’ grid position penalties will continue throughout F1 2023 season
Esteban Ocon was the first driver to fall foul of the FIA’s strict stance on grid positioning in F1 2023, Fernando Alonso the second, and Ocon believes they will not be the last. It was at the season opener in Bahrain where a nightmare race for Ocon began when his front-right tyre was not within the defined lines of his grid box, thus picking up a five-second penalty. He later received another 10 seconds for not serving that penalty correctly, and a further five seconds later on for speeding in the pit lane. And at the second round in Saudi Arabia it was Alonso’s turn to upset the stewards with his grid positioning, hit with a five-second time penalty for being too far over to the left of his box. Ocon called the penalties for himself and Alonso “stupid”, but if the FIA’s stance stays the same, then he expects such penalties to continue being dished out because it is extremely hard in these “big cars” to clearly see the lines. “It seems like a stupid penalty that we get … [Read more...] about Esteban Ocon predicts ‘stupid’ grid position penalties will continue throughout F1 2023 season
Huracan Tecnica Has Big Advantage Over 911 GT3 RS In Drag Race
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a brutal performance car designed to live its life on the race track. The Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica occupies a similar space in its lineup, sitting between the track-focused STO and the regular Evo. A new video pits the two in a drag race to see which track superstar is king. Powering the Porsche is its naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine. It produces 518 horsepower and 342 pound-feet of torque. The company claims the car can hit 60 miles per hour in 3.0 seconds flat, reaching a top speed of 184 mph. Extensive use of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic for the doors, seats, front wings, and other components allowed Porsche to keep the car’s weight down to 3,268 pounds. Effort to recall New Orleans’ first female mayor fails
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The effort to recall Democratic New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has failed, following an official count of petition signatures released by the Louisiana governor’s office Tuesday. Although the petition sheets contained over 67,000 signatures, most where declared invalid by the registrar. Gov. John Bel Edwards announced that only 27,243 of the signatures were valid — falling about 18,000 short of what was needed to force a referendum. Signatures can be rejected for a multitude of reasons including, if they are dated after the deadline, the title page is mislabeled, there is erroneous information or profanity, if the person is out-of-parish or if the signature is a duplicate. “My administration has always remained focused on addressing the real pressing issues that face our city,” Cantrell said in a statement to WAFB-TV. “Now, with the divisiveness of the … [Read more...] about Effort to recall New Orleans’ first female mayor fails
