Sarah Frier Bloomberg Published 2:23 PM EST Jan 8, 2019 Nick Winke, a photographer in the Pacific northwest, was perusing internet forums when he came across a complaint that alarmed him: On certain Samsung Electronics Co. smartphones, users aren’t allowed to delete the Facebook app. Winke bought his Samsung Galaxy S8, an Android-based device that comes with Facebook’s social network already installed, when it was introduced in 2017. He has used the Facebook app to connect with old friends and to share pictures of natural landscapes and his Siamese cat – but he didn’t want to be stuck with it. He tried to remove the program from his phone, but the chatter proved true – it was undeletable. He found only an option to "disable," and he wasn’t sure what that meant. “It just absolutely baffles me that if I wanted to completely get rid of Facebook that it essentially would still be on my phone, which brings up more questions,” Winke said … [Read more...] about Samsung phone users can’t delete Facebook

The data included … [Read more...] about China’s Huawei says it hasn’t collected Facebook data

Quick: Name the first hybrid car. If you said “Prius,” you’d be wrong, though a case could be made for it as the first mass-produced hybrid in 1997. According to hybridcars.com and biography.com, however, the first actual hybrid vehicle was put together around 1897 by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. An electric wheel-hub motor, it eventually led to the Egger-Lohner electric vehicle and was shown at the 1900 Paris Auto Salon. Times sure have changed. Or have they? Over 100 years later, automakers and engineers are still fiddling with the idea of combining electric motors with internal combustion engines. There’s a promise of cleaner cars, better efficiency, and even more powerful performance. Today, hybrids are a permanent fixture, one that promises to continue to grow in popularity as the price comes down and the number of available hybrids increases. For now, it seems clear that Toyota, with six out of the ten best-sellers, is the dominant force. Yet change is … [Read more...] about Top 10 List: These are the best-selling hybrid vehicles in America
