Lance Stroll won't follow Fernando Alonso into WEC, adamant his focus this season will be on F1 alone as he dreams of becoming a World Champion.Stroll joined Alonso on the starting grid for last weekend's 24 Hours of Daytona. The Williams driver, who shared the No.37 Jackie Chan DC Racing Jota's ORECA 07 prototype with Dani Juncadella, Felix Rosenqvist and Robin Frijns, was 15th overall. But while Alonso has since announced that he will contest the World Endurance Championship with Toyota, Stroll says his focus will be solely on F1."To be honest, at the moment I'm not ready to do Le Mans or do anything other than Formula 1," Stroll told RACER. "My focus is Formula 1 – I do want to become a World Champion one day and I want to have a good year this year. "Last year there were a lot of things that we could have improved on and that's what I want to do. I want to improve my weaknesses."I believe we did have a good year last year in terms of how many points we scored and … [Read more...] about Stroll: My only focus is Formula 1
Aston Martin could partner with legendary race and engineering firm Cosworth to co-develop an engine for Formula 1.Company CEO Andy Palmer has already voiced his interest in producing a powertrain for Red Bull Racing (pictured below), of which Aston Martin is title sponsor, and now Cosworth powertrains boss Bruce Wood has revealed his intent on getting involved.“We've done a lot of work with Aston for many years, we're working very closely with Red Bull and the team for the Valkyrie [hypercar], so there's a certain logic to it,” he told Autosport. "They [Aston Martin] also don't aspire to designing it all themselves, so there's a natural fit there and certainly that's where some of those discussions are happening.” What would a brand new Ford Sierra RS Cosworth feel like today Aston Martin has refrained from commenting on the prospect of a Cosworth tie-up, but a company spokesman told Autocar that the brand was open to an engineering partnership. It is … [Read more...] about Aston Martin could work with Cosworth to develop Formula 1 engine
Ford Motorsport boss Mark Rushbrook believes the cost of Formula 1 is still too high for his brand to consider entering – but hasn’t written off a return entirely.Speaking exclusively to Autocar, Rushbrook (pictured below) revealed that he was drawn to F1 over alternatives such as Formula E because of its use of small-capacity hybrid engines.“Hybrid power will be relevant for a long time for Ford,” he explained, “so I’d never say never to Formula 1, especially if it introduces budgets.”Rushbrook said that proper control on spending would be essential for Ford to consider mounting a serious charge for motorsport’s top category. He said that spending at present could easily spiral because “cost reduction in F1 is all relative. If you cap in one area, [manufacturers] will spend in another”.Ford last competed in F1 through Jaguar, which it used to own, in 2004, but it had a lengthy history in the sport that spanned 38 years prior … [Read more...] about Ford Motorsport boss: No Formula 1 until costs come down
With the first year of Liberty Media’s reign over Formula 1 in the books, it is time to assess the impact they have made since taking over from Bernie Ecclestone.“F1 has huge potential with multiple untapped opportunities,” said new chairman and CEO, Chase Carey, upon confirmation of Liberty Media’s £8bn takeover in January 2017.“I have enjoyed hearing from the fans, teams, FIA, promoters and sponsors on their ideas and hopes for the sport.“We will work with all of these partners to enhance the racing experience and add new dimensions to the sport and we look forward to sharing these plans overtime.”12 months on, Liberty are beginning to tap into those opportunities – but do those aforementioned partners really have faith in their vision? Bridging the gapThere was only one reason why there were multiple untapped opportunities in Formula 1 and that was because of Bernie Ecclestone. His dictatorship kept the sport in the dark ages and … [Read more...] about Are Liberty taking Formula 1 in the right direction?
