For 15 years now, Buick has been a far more important brand in China than it is in North America: four out of five Buicks sold globally are purchased by Chinese buyers. A global first: Groupe Renault and Connected Energy have installed two quick-charge stations that use a stationary energy storage system at highway rest areas. The innovative E-STOR system developed by Connected Energy uses second-life batteries from Renault electric vehicles. The partnership supports Renault’s global strategy for the energy storage market. Boulogne-Billancourt, – UK-based Connected Energy and Groupe Renault have installed two quick-charge stations based on the innovative E-STOR energy storage technology on highways in Belgium and Germany. Motorists there will be the first in the world to benefit from this service. The E-STOR technology developed by Connected Energy uses second-life batteries from Renault electric vehicles. The Nissan brand will get four full electric vehicles and Infiniti will receive two over the next five years, a top Nissan Motor Co. powertrain executive says.Those six battery-powered vehicles are the Japanese automaker's share of the 12 EVs that are now planned for Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi through 2022, according to a multiyear business plan announced last September by alliance CEO Carlos Ghosn.Ghosn's business plan did not break down the number by brand. During remarks today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, BMW announced its iNext EV will have a range of up to 435 miles when it goes on sale in 2021.The iNext was announced last May at BMW’s annual shareholders meeting. At that time, the pure electric vehicle’s range was estimated at “over 300 miles.” BMW did not elaborate then or now what standard the range was estimated under, be it European, American, or internal projections.The iNext concept previews a future midsize luxury crossover for BMW’s nascent i brand, which emphasizes electrified powertrains and self-driving technology. The iNext will boast SAE Level 3 autonomous capability when it goes on sale, allowing the vehicle to drive itself in most situations. Level 3 requires the driver to be ready to take over at any moment, however.
