It’s no indictment of Padres fans that Dodgers fans outnumbered them the past few days at Petco Park.Wherever the Dodgers stop on the West Coast, even in San Francisco last week, you’ll see many thousands of Dodgers fans.Padres fans are buying lots of tickets, despite the team’s many dismal recent seasons on the field. The sellout crowds of the past weekend set a ballpark attendance record for a three-game series. Though the Padres lost twice, it’s clear that they’re improved. Padres fans will come back.I’ve never understood the “blame the fans” shtick, anyway. If a donut shop served stale donuts and bad coffee for years, would you blame customers for balking at a return? Besides, the Padres’ business model is built on attracting not only Padres fans but tourists. The bustling scene in the East Village lately is what the ballpark’s supporters had in mind two-plus decades ago when Padres ownership contemplated a move from … [Read more...] about Column: Don’t blame Padres fan for being outnumbered at home

Breaking News Le'Veon Bell just dropped a brand new rap EP -- and it sounds an awful lot like he's referencing the LeSean McCoy violent robbery incident in one of the tracks. Here are the lyrics to Bell's track, "The Table" ... "We're not about to play around, if you play around get exposed ... I got homies there to take you out if certain information gets disclosed ... All these n***as acting shady, just please don't make me pull a Shady ... We're not about to play around, if you play around get exposed ... I got homies there to take you out if certain information gets disclosed ... All these women want my baby, just please don't me pull a Shady." Of course, there could be a different meaning -- but, it sounds like he's referencing the allegations made by McCoy's ex-GF, Delicia Cordon, who claims LeSean sent a guy to violently steal his jewelry back after they broke up. For his part, Shady hasn't been charged with a crime and has denied … [Read more...] about Le’Veon Bell Raps ‘Don’t Make Me Pull a Shady,’ LeSean McCoy Reference?
Nathan Bomey and John Gallagher Detroit Free Press Published 5:43 p.m. UTC May 24, 2018 Originally published Sept. 15, 2013 Detroit is broke, but it didn’t have to be. An in-depth Free Press analysis of the city’s financial history back to the 1950s shows that its elected officials and others charged with managing its finances repeatedly failed — or refused — to make the tough economic and political decisions that might have saved the city from financial ruin. Instead, amid a huge exodus of residents, plummeting tax revenues and skyrocketing home abandonment, Detroit’s leaders engaged in a billion-dollar borrowing binge, created new taxes and failed to cut expenses when they needed to. Simultaneously, they gifted workers and retirees with generous bonuses. And under pressure from unions and, sometimes, arbitrators, they failed to cut health care benefits — saddling the city with staggering costs that today threaten the safety and quality of … [Read more...] about How Detroit went broke: The answers may surprise you — and don’t blame Coleman Young
Max Verstappen has accused Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton of taking the easy option in blaming him for their collision in Bahrain last weekend. The 20-year-old Red Bull driver also said today that he would not be doing anything different as a result of the incident. Asked why Mercedes' four-times world champion had blamed him, Verstappen replied: "Why? Because it’s quite simple and easy to blame the younger driver. That’s the only way I can see it." Verstappen and Hamilton collided on the second lap of last Sunday’s floodlit race at the Sakhir circuit when the Dutchman dived down the inside of the 33-year-old Briton in an attempt to take 10th position. Hamilton went on to finish third but the coming together punctured a tyre on Verstappen’s car, eventually damaging the gearbox and forcing him to retire. "You know, that’s racing," said Verstappen comparing his move in Bahrain to a similar one that he pulled off in Mexico last year on the … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen: Lewis Hamilton blamed me for Bahrain collision because I’m young
Red Bull's Max Verstappen has said it was "easy" for Lewis Hamilton to blame him for their incident in Bahrain because he is the "younger driver". Hamilton called Verstappen 'a ****head" after watching their coming together back on the tv monitor just before the podium celebrations. And inevitably, Verstappen was asked for his thoughts on the incident a week on in the Drivers' Press Conference in China. "It is quite simple and easy to blame the younger driver," Verstappen said when quizzed about Hamilton's reaction. 'That's the only way I can see it. But these things happen and there is no reason to change anything." Verstappen also said he has not spoken to Hamilton since Bahrain, but may do so over the course of this weekend. He also defended his driving style and has no plans to change it. He said: "I might have a talk with him, it depends on whether it is really necessary. "And why should I change something? I don't think I did anything wrong and I was just trying to overtake a … [Read more...] about Verstappen: ‘It’s easy for Hamilton to blame me’
