Just a little over a month following the unexpected death of beloved Houston gardening guru and longtime Garden Line host Randy Lemmon , the program on Newstalk 740 KTRH has found a new host to take his place. On Feb. 25, Skip Richter will take over as host of the program, which airs broadcasts from 6-10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sunday. "I'm excited to be hosting Garden Line and helping listeners have more bountiful gardens and beautiful landscapes," Richter said in a Thursday press release . "Randy was an old friend going back to college when we lived in the same dorm. We will all miss him, and I consider it an honor to carry on the Garden Line tradition." A regional horticulturist for the National Gardening Association in the southeastern U.S., Richter is also a contributing editor to Texas Gardener Magazine. Houston gardening guru and longtime radio host Randy Lemmon dies at 61
A Houston radio station is mourning the loss of one of its beloved hosts. Randy Lemmon, a longtime host of the GardenLine program on NewsRadio 740 KTRH, died on Wednesday from complications due to a stroke, according to an announcement from the show on Facebook. Lemmon, 61, passed away at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City surrounded by his family. "For 27 years, Randy Lemmon hosted the GardenLine radio show, during which he shared all sorts of tips, tricks and serious science for handling this area's unique climate," the announcement read. "He was faithfully followed by serious landscapers as well as the weekend gardener as he shared his enthusiasm and advice about lawns, gardens and outdoor living. He was a go-to expert when climate issues became serious or dangerous to the public such as during hurricanes and deep freezes."
