September 30, 2018 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article Cammish blasted away from pole position and was never headed as he led home teammate Matt Neal in the second 1-2 of the day for the Team Dynamics cars. Jack Goff had run in second place initially in his Eurotech Racing Honda until it retired with an engine problem, which promoted Neal. He still had to work hard for second place as he was under severe pressure from the WSR BMW of Andrew Jordan. Over the final few laps, championship challenger Tom Ingram (Speedworks Motorsport Toyota), who had flown through the order in his ballast-free machine to scramble into fourth spot after 10 laps when he overtook Aiden Moffat’s Laser Tools Racing Mercedes. August 14, 2022 by www.racefans.net Leave a Comment

When McLaren first announced in 2020 that Daniel Ricciardo would be joining them to fill the seat that would be vacated by Carlos Sainz Jnr for 2021, it seemed like the perfect match. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free McLaren were gaining an established grand prix winner with nine-and-a-half seasons of experience who had brought Renault back onto the podium multiple times during 2020. Alongside the highly promising talent Lando Norris, it would be hard to blame McLaren CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andreas Seidl for feeling very encouraged for the team’s future. But whatever McLaren, Ricciardo or the team’s legions of fans expected from having the Australian join the team, it would not have been a pattern of consistently underwhelming results and a total points difference of 102 between Norris and Ricciardo scored over 35 races together so far. With Formula 1 resting over the summer, rumours and reports indicate that McLaren are now actively looking to … [Read more...] about Would McLaren be right to drop Ricciardo for 2023? · RaceFans

Top 10 Arrows F1 drivers ranked: Hill, Warwick, Fittipaldi and more

Listen to this article A team that began its time in Formula 1 under controversial circumstances, Arrows’ 24-year spell in the championship came to an end in 2002 amid mounting financial problems. Still the team with the most world championship race starts (counting the Footwork years) under its belt – at 382 – without ever taking a victory, Arrows came close to troubling the top step of the podium throughout its curious history – but fell short each time. The British squad, started up by former Lotus F1 driver Jackie Oliver, Alan Rees and Franco Ambrosio, went through multiple ownership changes in its latter years. It spent six seasons as Footwork in the 1990s, before Tom Walkinshaw took over for 1997 and restored the Arrows name. Although the team made an encouraging start under his tenure, with the Scot’s investment helping to bring 1996 champion Damon Hill and famed designer John Barnard into the team, it arguably over-reached its capabilities with an in-house engine … [Read more...] about Top 10 Arrows F1 drivers ranked: Hill, Warwick, Fittipaldi and more

Alex Albon says F1 at the Nordschleife wouldn’t be ‘complicated’ to sort out

August 14, 2022 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

It would be fair to say Alex Albon fell in love with the Nordschleife when he raced there in DTM last year. So much so that not only has he thought about buying a house there, he also thinks the legendary circuit could be suitable for Formula 1 in the future. The Nordschleife is the iconic German track nicknamed ‘The Green Hell’, a 13-mile circuit on which Niki Lauda suffered a near-fatal accident in 1976. It is adjacent to the Nurburgring, a more conventional track which staged an F1 grand prix as recently as 2020 during a season when the schedule had to be much changed due to the pandemic. In 2021, having been dropped from a race seat by Red Bull , Albon kept his eye in racing-wise by taking part in the DTM Series, driving a Ferrari touring car entered by the AlphaTauri team, before bagging a place back on the F1 grid with Williams for this year. The London-born driver gained his only win in 16 races at the Nurburgring on the officially-named sprint circuit, but he … [Read more...] about Alex Albon says F1 at the Nordschleife wouldn’t be ‘complicated’ to sort out

Romanian swimmer, 17, breaks 100-meter men’s freestyle record

August 14, 2022 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

One of swimming's oldest records toppled Saturday courtesy of one of its youngest stars, as 17-year-old Romanian swimmer David Popovici bested César Cielo's 13-year-old 100-meter men's freestyle mark at the European Aquatics Championship in Rome. Popovici's time of 46.86 eclipsed the former event record by 0.05 seconds, and he beat Saturday's second-fastest competitor, Kristóf Milák, by 0.61. "It felt great, and it's very special to break this record which was set here in 2009 by César Cielo," Popovici said via the Associated Press. Though announcers declared Popovici the odds-on favorite entering Saturday's final, his win hardly appeared inevitable at the halfway mark of the race, as he trailed France's Maxime Grousset with 50 meters remaining. Popovici ultimately pulled ahead with a second-half surge, measured at a 24.12 split. Cielo, the previous record-holder, complimented Popovici's performance on Twitter, declaring that Popovici is "just getting started." Few swimmers … [Read more...] about Romanian swimmer, 17, breaks 100-meter men’s freestyle record

Listen to this article The Kiwis are set to finally team up in a one-off, Erebus Motorsport run entry at this year's Great Race after plans for a wildcard last year were scuppered by border restrictions . A striking orange and black livery was unveiled at Erebus' open day in Melbourne on Sunday, complete with silver ferns to give the look a New Zealand touch. "It looks awesome," said four-time Great Race winner Murphy. "It’s very different to what we had last year but I knew that it would change, and the print underneath looks awesome. Stanaway, meanwhile, said he was looking forward to getting back in the car for their second dedicated test session at Winton this Tuesday. “I think the livery looks great and it’s awesome that we’ve been able to show it off for the first time to our supporters in real life,” Stanaway said. The Murphy/Stanaway entry will be one of at least three wildcard entries in the Bathurst 1000 field this year. ‘Silly season’ waits but 2015 rumours still firing

October 20, 2014 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article Who is on the list? The report said Nico Hulkenberg, despite being close to a new deal to stay with Force India in 2015, is at the top of the German carmaker's shortlist. Theoretically, Porsche's supposed plan is possible, given that the F1 calendar is not scheduled to clash with the fabled endurance race next year. Auto Bild said Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button might also be in Porsche's sights, having already signed the former Red Bull driver Mark Webber this year. In truth, the F1 'season season' is in a holding pattern again until Alonso's Ferrari exit and Sebastian Vettel's move to replace him are confirmed officially. Lotus' Romain Grosjean makes no secret of the fact that he is one of the drivers who is patiently waiting. "Any Formula One driver dreams of driving for Ferrari," the Frenchman told Europe 1 radio. Asked if he has been in talks with the Italian team, Grosjean admitted: "Yes, everyone, but the paddock is a small … [Read more...] about ‘Silly season’ waits but 2015 rumours still firing
