I’ll admit to being more than a little bit distraught when the man from Porsche came to collect it; still, better to have loved and lost and all that… And love it I did, which isn’t unusual for long-term test cars, but there’s usually a lengthy list of provisos attached to that. The brand’s lineup has taken the entire podium of automotive data specialist Cap HPI’s ‘Pence Per Mile’ list. Taking into account initial purchase price and all day-to-day running costs, including insurance, tax, servicing, fuel and depreciation, the Sandero costs just 20.63 pence per mile over a typical three-year ownership period. That’s despite Dacia announcing the first price increase to its Sandero supermini since it launched in 2013. The ‘shockingly affordable’ supermini now starts from £6,995 – an increase of £1,000, which ensures it still retains its title as the UK’s cheapest new car. That cost applies to the entry-level Access trim, fitted with the 1.0-litre SCe petrol engine. … [Read more...] about Dacia Sandero remains the cheapest car to buy and run in Britain five years on from introduction

Go to a local car dealership, enter the showroom, open the door to one of the vehicles on display, and breathe deeply. Ahhhh, new car smell. Intoxicating, isn’t it? Alluring to the point that you’ll spend, on average, about $13,500 in order to obtain it. Wait. What? That’s right. According to Kelley Blue Book, in 2015, Americans spent, on average, more than $33,500 on new vehicles. Meanwhile, J.D. Power reported that in the 2015, the average used vehicle cost just over $20,000. That new-car smell sure is an expensive air freshener. FOLLOW DAILY NEWS AUTOS ON FACEBOOK. 'LIKE' US HERE. Microwave ovens eventually die and require replacement. When mine started making an odd popping sound and emitting an electrical smell during use, I unplugged it, went to the closest store known to sell microwave ovens, bought a new one, plugged it in, and then continued heating up leftovers for lunch. It took less than an hour. Cars eventually die and require replacement. People don’t buy cars like they buy microwave ovens. “What is the best car?” We get that question almost every day. Conceptually this is a simple query. Realistically the answer is difficult and complex, because there isn’t just one best car, or SUV, or truck, or minivan. At Daily News Autos, our team of writers, editors, and contributors is committed to providing the best guidance possible about the vehicles people actually buy. In order to do that, and to the best of our ability, we need to put ourselves in your shoes, understanding your requirements, lifestyle, and intentions given the vehicle segment in which you are shopping. Stop negotiating price. Price negotiation, whether in relationship to a new car, a used car, or a trade-in, is what makes buying or leasing a vehicle so painful. Research what constitutes a fair price. Values associated with invoice, holdback, and sticker price convey meaningless information. Wholesale and retail are irrelevant when establishing the value of a used vehicle. Use tools easily available to you in order to research a fair price for the vehicle that you want to sell or buy. In addition to tracking down available rebates, financing offers, and leasing deals on manufacturer websites, cross-reference resources including TrueCar, AutoTrader, Kelley Blue Book (KBB), Edmunds, and NADA Guides. Finally, understand what your time is worth. This is easier for some people than it is for others. No matter who you are, though, you’ve got better things to be doing than sitting in a dealership for hours of your life, and time spent on more worthy pursuits has a value. Putting … [Read more...] about Save time, hassle, and money with our guide to painless car buying and leasing
