Elon Musk agrees robot glut slowed Model 3 production
Tesla's affordable Model 3 has been trapped in development hell for what seems like ages now, and in an interview with CBS's Gayle King, CEO Elon Musk offered a little more insight into how the production process has fallen short. While escorting King through the company's Fremont, California-based factory, Musk conceded that Tesla might've been too many robots involved in its car production process and that the company would benefit from having more humans on the line. And when King opined out loud that in some cases, said robots probably slowed down production, Musk responded with a terse "yes, they did." Musk didn't get to elaborate on the complexities of his factory setup, but he did point out one particular failure: the facility at one point used a "crazy, complex network of conveyor belts, and it was not working so [Tesla] got rid of the whole thing." That Musk would've chosen to rely on a highly automated facility is little surprise. During a shareholder meeting in 2016, he … [Read more...] about Elon Musk agrees robot glut slowed Model 3 production

Is Elon Musk paying more attention to SpaceX than Tesla? Model 3 delivery pushed back to 2019
After the successful launch of their most ambitious mission so far, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is on a high, but his Tesla brand seems to be taking hit after hit. The production and delivery of the Tesla Model 3, their "affordable" $35,000 (£25,227.30) car seems to be hitting several roadblocks.Today, news broke that delivery of the base variant of the Model 3 has been pushed back to early 2019. This comes right after their Q4 and 2017 report was published. Cars that were promised in early 2018 are now being pushed to 2019.According to their website, customers who were waiting for the standard battery variant, rear wheel drive Model 3 will have to wait nearly one more year. Those who made the Day 1 reservation will get their cars, according to the website in late 2018, and Day 2 reservation holders will have to wait until next year. The reason for this push-back is reported to be because of the losses that the company has been facing over the last few quarters. Insideevs reports that if … [Read more...] about Is Elon Musk paying more attention to SpaceX than Tesla? Model 3 delivery pushed back to 2019
Is Elon Musk Thinking About Building An Electric Airplane?
Tweet TweetBreaking news: Elon Musk wants to build a plane. An electric one! Are you surprised? Me either…after all, if he builds the fastest electric cars on earth, what’s the next logical step? I don’t want to be negativist, but what about the range? How large should be the batteries to provide a decent range without adding too much weight to the plane? Well, he says that, in the future, it will be possible that lithium-ion batteries to provide enough capacity to power a plane. Elon Musk is not only implicated in Tesla project, but he also founded back in 2002 Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX), with the purpose of enabling Mars’ colonization. The company had developed and built two launch reusable vehicles and a spacecraft, called Dragon, which attached to the International Space Station, supplying it with cargo. He is also the chairman and co-founder of SolarCity, a company that designs, finances and installs solar power systems. In the … [Read more...] about Is Elon Musk Thinking About Building An Electric Airplane?
