Toyota is expecting the Thai eco car segment to continue to rise, and eventually reach 25% of total auto sales in Thailand, the Bangkok Post reports. The fuel efficient and affordable segment accounted for 114,093 units of 15% of total industry volume last year. Toyota expects it to climb to 160,000 units this year for a market share of 20%. “We believe that the eco-car vehicles have the potential over the next few years to represent up to 25% of the Thai car market,” said Toyota Motor Thailand executive VP Vudhigorn Suriyachantananont. Toyota launched the Yaris Ativ in Thailand yesterday. The new model is Toyota’s second eco car after the Yaris hatchback, which was introduced in October 2013. The Yaris hatch reached the sales milestone of 150,000 units in May this year, in addition to the 51,200 units exported to over 70 countries. Despite not being a pioneer in Thai eco cars and having only one model before yesterday, the big T is the eco car segment leader … [Read more...] about Eco Car segment going strong in Thailand, could reach 25% market share in a few years
When it went on sale in the latter part of 2014, BMW’s i8 was something of a sensation, though the enthusiasm had as much to do with the car’s jarring design as its technology. I seem to recall Tom Cruise tooling around Dubai in one, possibly in one of the 87 Mission Impossible films.Boasting scissor type doors, a plug-in hybrid powertrain, a backseat you’d never want to find yourself in, and a sticker price well north of 100 grand, the i8’s time as a media darling wasn’t long-lived. Like a child’s new toy, interest quickly fell away. There’s two i8s arriving this spring; one a refreshed coupe, the other offering an al fresco motoring experience, sans backseat. Perhaps more importantly, there’s been an effort to fix a serious deficiency in the i8’s green halo: its incredibly limited electric range. Pricing, now released, shows a considerable markup for the drop-top. Can a double-duty lineup, beefed-up eco credentials, and an extra … [Read more...] about I Think i8 Can: Will a Refresh and Extra Range Give BMW’s Fading Eco Supercar a Boost?
Italian design house Pininfarina teased its next concept for the Geneva motor show. The HK GT, “an elegant and eco-sustainable gran turismo,” was designed together with the Hybrid Kinetic Group, an emerging tech brand based in Hong Kong.We don’t have a ton to go on from the two teaser shots, but it looks like a tall-ish futuristic concept with slick controls and hard buttons on the doors. Pininfarina says it’s a classic gran turismo that borrows from the formal design language of the Hybrid Kinetic brand. The company also says the powertrain will consist of a battery, electric motors and a range extender, so we'll at least expect it'll be quick off the line.Hybrid Kinetic, according to its website, says its philosophy is advocating "technology leadership, phased development and a combination of vehicles and financial innovation.” HK has three arms: finance, technology and industry. The finance portion deals with asset investment; the technology arm does … [Read more...] about Pininfarina HK GT will be an eco-conscious rocket (we hope)
[Read more...] about Suzuki Swift 2018 dilancar di Thai sebagai Kereta Eco – 1.2L CVT, harga bermula RM62k hingga RM78k
The new Suzuki Swift has been launched in Thailand. Like the previous-generation Swift that we’re familiar with, the 2018 Swift is an eco car in the Kingdom, which means that it’s powered by a 1.2 litre engine and is affordably priced. The K12M “Dualjet” engine makes 83 PS and 103 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The MPI engine with auto start-stop is E20 compatible and is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox – there’s no base manual option. That’s less power than before, but the new Swift is a Phase 2 eco car that meets the more stringent 23 km/l fuel economy and 100 g/km CO2 emissions requirement. The previous model was a Phase 1 eco car that had to meet 20 km/l and 120 g/km levels. The Swift is a featherweight B-segment hatchback, weighing in at 875-910 kg. In Thailand, the Swift will take on fellow eco car hatchbacks like the Mazda 2, Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan March and market leading Toyota Yaris. Four trim levels are available – GA, GL, GLX, … [Read more...] about 2018 Suzuki Swift launched in Thailand – 1.2L CVT, 23 km/l Phase 2 eco car, priced from RM62k
