The famous tennis player and business man Ion Țiriac is one of the future 275 happy buyers of the new Mercedes-AMG project One supercar. With the occasion of presentation of the four exclusive Porsche models at Țiriac Collection today – Porsche 911 R, Porsche 911 Exclusive Series, Porsche 911 GT2 RS and a Porsche Carrera 4 GTS received by the leader of WTA championship, Simona Halep – Ion Țiriac said that he will buy also a Mercedes-AMG Project One. “Mercedes does not ask yet for a down payment. My intention was to buy two units, one for Țiriac Collection and one for Țiriac Foundation, but Mercedes did not agree, so I will buy only one”, declared Ion Țiriac. I asked him what is his opinion regarding Mercedes intention to include a clause to not resale the Project One for at least two years. It's always fascinating to see how a manufacturer turns a triumphant season in motorsport to its advantage. The old adage of 'win of Sunday, sell on Monday' isn't always an easy to pull off when you've been supplying championship-winning Formula 1 engines, but are best known for hatchbacks and people carriers (see Espace F1 for Renault's enterprising solution). Even when the synergies do suggest themselves, the dots aren't necessarily joined up with much conviction. Citroen and Volkswagen, for example, spent the last ten years politely sharing domination of the WRC with nothing more to show for it in the showroom than a lacklustre Polo GTI and a so-so DS3. Of course, when carmakers do get it right, the results tend to be memorable. Typically (though not always) this occurs when they resolve to throw even more money, power and components at a road car already jam-packed with all three. Mercedes-AMG has made this kind of endeavour a speciality, and did not miss the opportunity in … [Read more...] about CLK DTM AMG: Showpiece of the Week
The Mercedes CLK DTM AMG is one of the greatest cars ever made by AMG. Built to celebrate the CLK DTM’s championship win in 2003 with Bernd Schneider, AMG produced 100 examples of the coupe version and later on, in 2007, 80 units of the cabrio version. A coupe version is for sale at a luxury british dealer for 275,000 pounds (aprox. 315,000 euro). The street version of the Mercedes CLK DTM AMG features a de-tuned version of the SLS AMG’s 5.4-litre engine, racing-inspired suspension and a luxurious interior. The famous AMG 5.4 litre V8 was adapted for the street and it has new pistons, valve gear, crankcase, cooling system, exhaust, supercharger, while the huge power of 582 HP is delivered to the rear wheels through a five speed automatic gearbox 5G-Tronic Speedshift. The car reaches 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. Step inside and you are greeted with stunning one piece carbon fibre bucket seats, oval … [Read more...] about Mercedes CLK DTM AMG for sale at 275,000 pounds
If you don’t know what the CLK DTM AMG actually is, you might easily dismiss it as just a limited edition of Merc’s compact coupe with pumped-up arches and big rims. Well, for starters it’s more powerful than a Black Series, with 582hp and 800Nm (590lb-ft) of torque from a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 and a 0-60mph (0-96km/h) sprint in 3.6 seconds, and it’s faster than some modern AMGs. Moreover, it was aimed to be a homologation special for Merc’s German Touring Car Championship contender. As such, the company built just 100 units for the Coupe (and 60 convertibles the next year), of which only 40 were right-hand drive models imported to the UK, so it’s rarer than a McLaren F1. Thus, it has all of the ingredients that make it a collector’s item, and such cars don’t pop up for sale that often. Whenever they do, though, they change hands for six-digit sums, and this particular RHD example is estimated to fetch £180,000-£220,000 … [Read more...] about How Much Would You Pay For A Barely-Driven Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM?
If these are AMG's 14 most interesting and unusual cars, its nine-seater luxury MPV has to be the 15th. Park one next to an AMG 280 GE 5.6 Sport from a decade earlier, and you have the perfect duo of all-purpose unicorns at hand—not to mention an amazing photo opportunity. While many people believe the 2001-2004 Mercedes-Benz C 30 CDI AMG was the first and so far only diesel model built in Affalterbach, the 1989 AMG MB 100 D begs to differ. Just two years after the infamous Hammer hit the scene, AMG turned its attention towards Benz's Spanish-made workhorse. Advertisement - Continue Reading Below AMG offered an upgraded diesel both in 2.4- or 3.0-liter form, tuned to give the light van 98 or 127 horsepower, mostly thanks to a new sequential turbocharger. The extra kraft came in handy, considering the weight penalty of rich leathers and television sets. Inside, the AMG MB 100 D featured nine more-supportive seats wrapped in the same Alcantara as the van's practical folding table. … [Read more...] about This Diesel Van Is the Strangest Vehicle in AMG’s History
