Listen to this article Grove Racing announced its Bathurst 1000 pairings earlier this week, confirming that Reynolds will partner Porsche factory driver Campbell, while Super2 regular Payne will be paired with Lee Holdsworth . That came as somewhat of a surprise given it had long been expected that Payne would be with Reynolds and Campbell in the Holdsworth car. However, when asked why the switch happened, Reynolds refuted that a decision had ever been made on driver pairings. He said it was always left open until a final decision was made by the team in recent weeks. Reynolds also said he would have been happy with either of the 'Matts' as his co-driver for the Great Race, although conceded that he is a better physical fit with Campbell rather than Payne. "At the start of the year everyone assumed things but there was nothing determined in terms of which of the Matts we would be paired with," he said. "I think they only got together recently to decide what was … [Read more...] about Reynolds refutes co-driver switch claim

Sandown Supercars: Whincup tops co-driver practice
Listen to this article The Bathurst 1000 co-drivers were given half an hour of running as part of the Sandown SuperSprint this afternoon. The session is the only official running for co-drivers before practice for the Great Race kicks off in early October. Triple Eight duo Whincup and Garth Tander were consistently at the top across the co-driver session, although initially it was Tander that led the way with a 1m08.548s. Walkinshaw Andretti United's Fabian Coulthard briefly jumped the pair late in the session with a 1m08.519s. However a green tyre run right at the flag saw Whincup fire to the top with a 1m08.230s. That time was roughly two tenths quicker than primary driver Broc Feeney went in the #88 Holden in the earlier session today . Tander was also able to improve on his final run to move back ahead of Coulthard, the gap to Whincup around two tenths. Tony D'Alberto was the best-placed Ford with the fourth fastest time in the #11 Dick Johnson … [Read more...] about Sandown Supercars: Whincup tops co-driver practice
Nigel Mansell feels Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is ‘taking it easy this year’
1992 F1 champ Nigel Mansell sees an opportunity for George Russell, as Lewis Hamilton has not “dusted off his right foot yet”. Following the controversial conclusion to the 2021 season, which saw Hamilton miss out on a record eighth World Championship on the last lap of the Abu Dhabi season finale, the Brit went into 2022 as a favourite to get that eighth title in the bag. However, that possibility already looks to be off the table by the summer break, Mercedes having fallen adrift of Red Bull at the start of Formula 1’s new regulatory era, with Ferrari assuming the role of main challenger to Red Bull. Hamilton also has a new team-mate for this season in the shape of Russell, who claimed his first career pole last time out in Hungary, also Mercedes’ first pole of the season. All eyes on Spa as porpoising and flexi-floor TD arrives As F1 gets set to return, a new technical directive could have a major impact on the first race back. In the … [Read more...] about Nigel Mansell feels Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is ‘taking it easy this year’
Drivers have to be "more on point" in "closer" 2022 DTM fight – Gotz
The Mercedes-AMG factory driver won the DTM’s first title of its new GT3 era last year for the HRT outfit before switching to Winward Racing for this season. But from grids averaging at 20.3 cars last season, grid sizes this year have increased to an average of 28.25 cars per round, with the addition of factory drivers from Lamborghini and Porsche and returning three-time DTM champion Rene Rast raising the bar. Only Schubert BMW racer Sheldon van der Linde has won more than once, and a different driver has been on pole for all eight races so far. Lamborghini is the only brand yet to win a race, although Grasser Racing’s Mirko Bortolotti heads the standings. Gotz produced his best weekend of the season last time out at the Norisring with a brace of sixth-places and sits 16th in the points at the halfway point of the season. Speaking to Autosport prior to the Norisring weekend, the 36-year-old said: “The start of the season was not easy. “I think generally the DTM … [Read more...] about Drivers have to be "more on point" in "closer" 2022 DTM fight – Gotz
Tracking the trends of car development in 2022 · RaceFans
The new regulations for Formula 1 this year created a unique opportunity for ten very different looking cars to line up on the grid in Bahrain at the start of the season. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Each team had their own design philosophy and took different design approaches to the new set of regulatuions. However, over the course of the season, some of these concepts have shown clear advantages and many of the cars on the grid have started to converge into a handful of particular design philosophies. Sidepod concepts The three main sidepod design philosophies that had emerged at the beginning of the season were the inwash, downwash, and outwash concepts. Mercedes and McLaren had notably taken the inwash concept where, from the top view of the car, the rear of the coke bottle section narrows inwards into the rear bodywork without a very aggressive undercut on the sidepods, making for a rather short sidepod. The inwash concept is designed for the … [Read more...] about Tracking the trends of car development in 2022 · RaceFans
Behind every Trader Joe’s sign is a working artist who painted it
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Growing up, Zoe Terrell dreamed of becoming an artist - she sketched scenes from her local farmers market and even won drawing competitions in her native South Korea. But she eventually learned what many creative people know too well. "My dad was like, 'Well, drawing is not going to feed you,' " Terrell says. So she studied education in college and, after moving to the United States in 2008, taught Korean - that is, until a curious job listing caught her eye. An ocean away, Terrell called her dad with surprising news: "Hey, guess what, Dad? Now, drawing is going to feed me," she recalls with a laugh. Terrell is one of hundreds of sign artists employed by grocery store Trader Joe's. You probably know the idiosyncratic chain for its eccentric snacks and peppy cashiers, but that festive atmosphere extends to the stores' interior design, too: Each of the 500-plus outposts has custom, … [Read more...] about Behind every Trader Joe’s sign is a working artist who painted it
Endurance sports make a life-changing update for nonbinary athletes
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 It would be easy to look at professional triathlete Rach McBride and assume they always feel at home at a starting line. They've placed at world championship races, won Ironman 70.3 (half Ironman) races and conquered the field at gravel cycling races. But until last year, that wasn't the case. Despite a long, impressive list of titles and accomplishments, McBride (they/them), a 44-year-old Canadian, always felt a bit out of place when lining up. At the 2021 Big Sugar Gravel race in Arkansas, however, everything changed. Big Sugar was the first event in which McBride had the opportunity to race in a nonbinary category. The event, says McBride, was nothing short of life-changing. "For a person outside the gender binary, it can be really dysphoric to have to check an 'M' or 'F' box on a registration form, be misgendered at a start or finish line, to have to use gendered … [Read more...] about Endurance sports make a life-changing update for nonbinary athletes
Refreshed Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 Spied For First Time With Minor Tweaks
Listen to this article The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA isn’t that old, arriving for the 2020 model year. However, the German-based automaker is ready to refresh it, including the hotter AMG GLA 35, which our spy photographers have caught testing for the first time. Mercedes isn’t giving the model a complete makeover. Instead, this is its mid-cycle refresh where the company tweaks the front and rear fascias and makes other updates, and the AMG GLA 35 variant can’t escape that. The photos show the hatchback with its front fascia covered, hiding redesigned headlights and a revamped front bumper. The Panamericana grille remains with slight changes. There’s not a lot of camouflage at the rear, but the taillights are covered, suggesting that Mercedes will tweak their styling, likely updating the internal graphics. Optimistic pace note caused Rovanpera’s Ypres Rally retirement
Listen to this article The World Rally Championship leader retired from Friday's action in spectacular fashion when he misjudged a fast left-hander while leading the rally during Stage 2. Rovanpera ran wide, resulting in his GR Yaris hitting a ditch which pitched the car into a series of frightening rolls, before landing on its wheels. Rovanpera and co-driver Jonne Halttunen emerged from the wreckage unscathed. The pair were agitated before the start of the stage, which was delayed due to communication problem between rally headquarters and the stage commander that had to be resolved before they could enter the test. While Rovanpera was clearly upset by the timing issue, he described as a "big mess", the Finn said the problem didn't affect his concentration, with a pace note error the cause for the crash. "There was a few corners and the second one of them I just had a bit of an optimistic pace note," said Rovanpera, who had won the day's opening asphalt stage to lead … [Read more...] about Optimistic pace note caused Rovanpera’s Ypres Rally retirement
