Watch Porsche 911 Turbo S Crush Both GT-R Nismo, Audi R8 In A Drag Race

· March 6, 2021 ·

What. A. Rocket. Ever since people have been getting their hands on the 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S , the ultimate 911 has been gaining attention in terms of performance, and rightfully so. It has continuously proved that it's worthy of the name, and this latest drag race video is no exception from that. The contenders in the latest Carwow video aren't exactly slackers. The first one is a Nissan GT-R Nismo , also at the top of the Japanese marque's range. The Audi R8's the other one, and we all know that it's practically a tamer Lamborghini Huracan. Gallery: 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S 9 Photos The matchup sounds a bit diverse at an initial glance. The Japanese coupe has its mill up front, while the two Germans have theirs behind the seats – though one's rear-mounted and the other's a rear mid-engined supercar . Then again, looking at … [Read more...] about Watch Porsche 911 Turbo S Crush Both GT-R Nismo, Audi R8 In A Drag Race

O’Ward: Racing Indy was “like driving into a black hole”

· March 5, 2021 ·

The Mexican youngster earned huge praise from rivals, fans and team owners for his first full season in the NTT IndyCar Series, having joined Arrow McLaren SP-Chevrolet with only eight IndyCar races to his name. The 2018 Indy Lights champion took a pole position, four podium finishes and clinched fourth in the championship, showing great pace while avoiding rookie-style errors. However, O’Ward has already cited areas of potential improvement and areas that he and the team should prioritize – and admitted he has much to learn on the oval tracks. “I think I've still a long ways to learn in superspeedways because they’re new to me,” he said. “You just don't learn it from one night to another or from one race to the other. So I think that's where I can see myself improving… I want to be better in just knowing what to expect a little bit more. “Heading into one of those races, for example the Indy 500 [where he finished fifth] or Iowa [where he was robbed of a podium by a slow … [Read more...] about O’Ward: Racing Indy was “like driving into a black hole”

Rosenqvist on IndyCar: I haven’t done anything as difficult

· March 6, 2021 ·

Rosenqvist won the NTT IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year title in 2019 with sixth place in the championship driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, but last year slipped to 11 th , despite scoring his first win in the series. For his third IndyCar season, he has joined Arrow McLaren SP-Chevrolet, partnering team incumbent Patricio O’Ward. Asked about the prospects for 2021 rookies Jimmie Johnson, Scott McLaughlin and Romain Grosjean – arriving from NASCAR, Supercars and Formula 1 respectively – Rosenqvist said they were going to find the move difficult. “I wish I could talk to myself now back in '19,” said the 29-year-old who arrived in IndyCar with a sparkling résumé that featured championships and multiple race wins in lower formulas. “It's a tough series. I haven't done anything else that is as difficult. I know many other people that came from F1 says the same thing. “You look at it from the outside, you think it's going to be like a simpler form of racing. But the … [Read more...] about Rosenqvist on IndyCar: I haven’t done anything as difficult

Bourdais, Foyt targeting best title campaign for 19 years

· March 6, 2021 ·

Airton Daré was the last Foyt driver to break into the top 10 in the end of year points standings, on the back of a win at Kansas and a third at Texas, resulting in ninth in the 2002 Indy Racing League – at that time an all-oval series. Since then, the squad owned by Indy car icon A.J. Foyt – seven-time champion and four-time Indy 500 winner – have landed podiums with Darren Manning, Vitor Meira, Mike Conway, Takuma Sato and Tony Kanaan, and Sato scored another victory for the squad at Long Beach in 2013. But the season-long consistency required to finish in the Top 10 has evaded them. However, the hiring of four-time Champ Car title winner and 37-time race winner Bourdais has lit the team’s ambition, and the speed shown in testing has left all involved, including team president Larry Foyt, cautiously optimistic. Said Bourdais: “I think Larry was really kind of hoping for a top 10 in the championship, which when you look at the entry list, is no easy task. Hopefully we … [Read more...] about Bourdais, Foyt targeting best title campaign for 19 years

How Mercedes could actually benefit from F1’s budget cap

· March 6, 2021 ·

Along with sustainability a key aim of Formula 1’s budget cap is to rein in the performance of the top teams by levelling the playing field. And yet in typical glass-full style Mercedes boss Toto Wolff sees the cap not as a hurdle for the Brackley team, but an opportunity to become even stronger. This sport has long been about spending power. It’s no coincidence that the teams that have dominated have had the biggest budgets, and until now, there has been no official limit to what they’ve been allowed to pump in. The 2021 FIA financial regulations, headlined by a budget cap of $145m, have changed all that. Many areas are excluded from that number, but it still represents a huge change of approach for Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. All three have been busy shuffling staff into non-F1 projects, which explains why Ferrari has committed to a sportscar programme , and why Mercedes has been busy seeking customers for its Applied Science division.
