German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told French TV channel LCI that Poland has not formally asked for Berlin's approval to share some of its German-made Leopards but added “if we were asked, we would not stand in the way.” German officials “know how important these tanks are" and “this is why we are discussing this now with our partners,” Baerbock said in interview clips posted by LCI. The victims from Saturday's strike on the multi-story residential tower included two children, Ukraine’s National Police reported, and 15 children are among the 75 injured. The rescue and search operation was ongoing, with 39 people, including six children, taken from the ruins so far, the police said in a statement. About 1,700 people lived in the apartment building. Poland pushes for more tanks for Ukraine, asks for German OK

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland will ask Germany for permission to send some of the Polish army's Leopard tanks to Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Monday, as he pushes Europe to send more military hardware to Kyiv amid complaints that Germany is being too slow in helping to thwart Russia's invasion. Morawiecki didn’t specify when the request will be made. He said that Poland is building a coalition of nations ready to send Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine. Poland needs the consent of Germany, which builds the tanks, to send them to a non-NATO country. But even if there is no permission from Germany, Warsaw will make its own decisions, Morawiecki said. Poland has become a leading advocate in the European Union for giving Ukraine the military aid that could help it prevail over the Kremlin’s invading forces 11 months after the war started. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 18 Fierce battles in eastern Ukraine have thrown a new spotlight on Russia's Wagner Group, a private military company led by a rogue millionaire with longtime links to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Wagner has spearheaded the push to jump-start Russia's stalemated offensive in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk province. The ferocious house-to house fighting has produced some of the bloodiest encounters since Russia sent troops into Ukraine, with Wagner personnel “marching on the bodies of their own soldiers” as Ukrainian authorities put it. The U.S. this week expanded sanctions against Wagner for its role in Ukraine and mercenary activities in Africa. Here is a look at the Wagner Group's history and its current role in the fighting. WHO OWNS THE WAGNER GROUP? Yevgeny Prigozhin, who received a … [Read more...] about Brutality of Russia’s Wagner gives it lead in Ukraine war

Boris Johnson says Putin said he could hit him with missile

January 30, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

LONDON (AP) — Former U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that President Vladimir Putin didn’t seem serious about avoiding war in the days before Russia invaded Ukraine — and at one point told the British leader it would be easy to kill him with a missile. The Kremlin denied Putin made any such threat. In a documentary released Monday, Johnson says he called Putin in February 2022 and tried to dissuade him from war, telling him Ukraine would not be joining NATO in the foreseeable future – a longstanding concern of the Russian leader – and warning invasion would bring “massive” Western sanctions. “From the very relaxed tone that he was taking, the sort of air of detachment that he seemed to have, he was just playing along with my attempts to get him to negotiate,” Johnson says in the BBC series “Putin vs the West.” Johnson says that Putin “threatened me at one point and said, ‘Boris, I don’t want to hurt you, but with a missile, it would only take a minute’, or something … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson says Putin said he could hit him with missile

Almost a year after his F1 sacking, Nikita Mazepin will get behind the wheel once again as he takes part in the Asian Le Mans series. Mazepin was sacked by Haas in March 2022 as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the team’s decision to cancel the sponsorship deal with Dmitry Mazepin, Nikita’s father, who has close ties with Vladimir Putin. Since then, Mazepin Junior has been searching for a way back into F1, including by taking his former team to court , and secured a victory in a July 2022 rally race. Now the 23-year-old is stepping up his efforts to get into racing and has been announced as a member of 99 Racing’s entry for the Asian Le Mans Series. The series will run entirely in the Middle East with two four-hour races at both the Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi with the first race set to get underway on February 11. Mazepin will be joined by Spaniard Félix Porteiro and Briton Ben Barnicoat in the number 98 Oreca 07 car.
