Tracking the trends of car development in 2022 · RaceFans
The new regulations for Formula 1 this year created a unique opportunity for ten very different looking cars to line up on the grid in Bahrain at the start of the season. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Each team had their own design philosophy and took different design approaches to the new set of regulatuions. However, over the course of the season, some of these concepts have shown clear advantages and many of the cars on the grid have started to converge into a handful of particular design philosophies. Sidepod concepts The three main sidepod design philosophies that had emerged at the beginning of the season were the inwash, downwash, and outwash concepts. Mercedes and McLaren had notably taken the inwash concept where, from the top view of the car, the rear of the coke bottle section narrows inwards into the rear bodywork without a very aggressive undercut on the sidepods, making for a rather short sidepod. The inwash concept is designed for the … [Read more...] about Tracking the trends of car development in 2022 · RaceFans
Endurance sports make a life-changing update for nonbinary athletes
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 It would be easy to look at professional triathlete Rach McBride and assume they always feel at home at a starting line. They've placed at world championship races, won Ironman 70.3 (half Ironman) races and conquered the field at gravel cycling races. But until last year, that wasn't the case. Despite a long, impressive list of titles and accomplishments, McBride (they/them), a 44-year-old Canadian, always felt a bit out of place when lining up. At the 2021 Big Sugar Gravel race in Arkansas, however, everything changed. Big Sugar was the first event in which McBride had the opportunity to race in a nonbinary category. The event, says McBride, was nothing short of life-changing. "For a person outside the gender binary, it can be really dysphoric to have to check an 'M' or 'F' box on a registration form, be misgendered at a start or finish line, to have to use gendered … [Read more...] about Endurance sports make a life-changing update for nonbinary athletes

Sandown Supercars: Whincup tops co-driver practice
Listen to this article The Bathurst 1000 co-drivers were given half an hour of running as part of the Sandown SuperSprint this afternoon. The session is the only official running for co-drivers before practice for the Great Race kicks off in early October. Triple Eight duo Whincup and Garth Tander were consistently at the top across the co-driver session, although initially it was Tander that led the way with a 1m08.548s. Walkinshaw Andretti United's Fabian Coulthard briefly jumped the pair late in the session with a 1m08.519s. However a green tyre run right at the flag saw Whincup fire to the top with a 1m08.230s. That time was roughly two tenths quicker than primary driver Broc Feeney went in the #88 Holden in the earlier session today . Tander was also able to improve on his final run to move back ahead of Coulthard, the gap to Whincup around two tenths. Tony D'Alberto was the best-placed Ford with the fourth fastest time in the #11 Dick Johnson … [Read more...] about Sandown Supercars: Whincup tops co-driver practice

‘Beast’: Idris Elba Battles the ‘Cujo’ of Lions
Click here to read the full article. “It’s the law of the jungle,” one character says fairly early on in Beast — “early” as in after we’ve established that a lion decides to become a four-legged vigilante once some poachers slaughter his pride, but before this one-cat army sets his sights on our hero and his family. The way the man inhales and pauses before he delivers the next line suggests he’s about to drop some serious science: “The only law that matters here.” Ah. Ok! To be fair, there are other laws that also apply to this survivalist thriller. Like, for example, the Law of the Multiplex, which says that a movie primarily centered around a notable performer and a 10-words-or-less elevator pitch has to either a) rest steadily enough on that actor’s shoulders to carry it past pitfalls and weak spots, or b) revolve around such a too-big-to-fail, high-concept idea that it could level up anybody to A-list status. And the Law of the Reliable B-Movie Director, which declares … [Read more...] about ‘Beast’: Idris Elba Battles the ‘Cujo’ of Lions
