Crutchlow can “make the difference” for Yamaha – Rossi

· March 5, 2021 ·

Despite winning half of last year’s races, Yamaha failed to win any of the three championships on offer, with its 2020 M1 riders besieged by various issues with the bike which led to wildly inconsistent form. After leading for much of the campaign, Fabio Quartararo faded to eighth in the standings over the final six rounds, while Maverick Vinales was sixth and Rossi 15th (though he did miss two rounds due to COVID-19). Yamaha’s troubles weren’t aided by the lack of a test programme for Jorge Lorenzo, who only did four days on a 2019 M1 in February and October – its plans largely undone by COVID travel restrictions on its Japanese-based test crew. For 2021, the marque has signed former Tech 3 Yamaha rider Crutchlow to spearhead its plans following his retirement from full-time racing, and will be in action across all days of this month’s Qatar testing – which started on Friday (below). BMW M340i xDrive Review (First Drive): The First Locally Assembled ‘M’ Car

· March 6, 2021 ·

Home Car reviews oi-Promeet Ghosh By Promeet Ghosh Updated: Saturday, March 6, 2021, 17:29 [IST] Rating: 4.0 It has almost been less than two years since the seventh-gen 3 Series was launched in India. Earlier this year in January, BMW India brought in the long-wheelbase 3 Series Gran Limousine in the country. That however does not seem to be enough and just a couple of months later after the long-wheelbase launch, BMW has come up with the locally-assembled M340i xDrive. We had a chance to drive the all-new BMW M340i xDrive for a couple of days and boy the car left us staggered. One more thing is that this is the first M car to be assembled in India. So, we took the car and went for a drive in the city and on the highway and here is what we have to say about it. Exterior & Design At first glance, when you see the car upfront it will be difficult for you to tell that this is a performance-oriented sedan … [Read more...] about BMW M340i xDrive Review (First Drive): The First Locally Assembled ‘M’ Car

Rookies react to first MotoGP outing in Qatar shakedown

· March 5, 2021 ·

Four rookies will start the 2021 campaign this month in Qatar (although Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori already has three races under his belt from last year), with a day of running at Losail ahead of the official test allowing them to experience their first laps on a MotoGP bike. Typically, Pramac’s Jorge Martin and Avintia duo Luca Marini and Enea Bastianini would have already had two days of running under their belts at the end of last season, but the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the traditional end-of-season two-day test at Jerez. How Mercedes could actually benefit from F1’s budget cap

· March 6, 2021 ·

Along with sustainability a key aim of Formula 1’s budget cap is to rein in the performance of the top teams by levelling the playing field. And yet in typical glass-full style Mercedes boss Toto Wolff sees the cap not as a hurdle for the Brackley team, but an opportunity to become even stronger. This sport has long been about spending power. It’s no coincidence that the teams that have dominated have had the biggest budgets, and until now, there has been no official limit to what they’ve been allowed to pump in. The 2021 FIA financial regulations, headlined by a budget cap of $145m, have changed all that. Many areas are excluded from that number, but it still represents a huge change of approach for Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. All three have been busy shuffling staff into non-F1 projects, which explains why Ferrari has committed to a sportscar programme , and why Mercedes has been busy seeking customers for its Applied Science division. Schumacher: No added pressure from father’s legacy for F1 debut

· March 5, 2021 ·

After clinching the FIA Formula 2 title in 2020, Ferrari-backed Schumacher is graduating to F1 with Haas in 2021, 30 years after his father's debut in 1991 with Jordan. Michael Schumacher went on to become the most successful driver in history with seven world titles, only recently matched by Lewis Hamilton, but Schumacher Jr. doesn't believe his illustrious surname will burden him with the weight of expectation. "I've never said that it was pressure and I think I'm pretty sure I won't ever say it because I'm very happy to carry that surname and I'm very happy to carry that name back into Formula 1," Schumacher said at the launch of Haas' 2021 challenger. "I'm very proud of it. It's like a boost to me and it gives me motivation every single day to work as hard as I can."
