As the Houston Rockets continue to flounder at the bottom of the Western Conference, general manager Rafael Stone has two pieces in particular to point to as signs of progress within the organization. Yes, the Rockets sport two promising potential All-Stars in Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr. , though it's hard to give Stone major plaudits for bringing them to Houston given they were both top-three picks in the last two NBA drafts. Instead, Stone's best work can be attributed to the selections he's made outside the lottery. The Rockets appear to have hit the jackpot with the No. 16 pick in the 2021 draft, center Alperen Şengün . The Turkish big man is one of the game's most precocious talents, a true offensive fulcrum at the five with vision that elicits not-so-outrageous comparisons to Nikola Jokic. And while Stone's most recent post-lottery addition may not sport the same ceiling, he is making an instant impact during his first professional season. Report: DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans have ‘traction’ after interview
The Houston Texans ' head coaching search continues to roll on as we enter late January, but it appears progress has been made with one candidate that's particularly popular in the Bayou City. San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans —a former Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl linebacker with the Texans during the early days of the franchise—interviewed with Houston on Friday. It seems the conversation was productive, with ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reporting on SportsCenter that the meeting "went pretty late into the evening." Fowler went on to add that "people around the league believe [Ryans] has traction in Houston", while noting that Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon "has some traction there as well." Gannon, who was one of the front-runners in the Texans' head coaching search last offseason, has also interviewed with the team. . @SportsCenter updates on DeMeco Ryans’ busy 72 hours; what people around league are saying on … [Read more...] about Report: DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans have ‘traction’ after interview
Oracle moves headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin
(Bloomberg) -- Oracle Corp. said it has moved its headquarters to Texas, from its home state of California to give employees more flexibility on where they do their jobs. The move to Austin from Redwood City “means that many of our employees can choose their office location as well as continue to work from home part time or all of the time,” Oracle said Friday in a regulatory filing. The company will continue “to support” its other U.S. office locations in Santa Monica, California, Seattle, Denver, Orlando and Burlington, Massachusetts, according to the filing. Hearing set on competency of Colorado store shooting suspect
DENVER (AP) — A judge is scheduled to hold a hearing Friday to discuss whether a man charged with killing 10 people at a Colorado supermarket nearly two years ago is mentally competent to stand trial. Court proceedings against Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 23, have been paused for more than a year after Judge Ingrid Bakke found him to be mentally incompetent in December 2021 and sent him to the state mental hospital for treatment. Brief hearings are held periodically to check whether doctors believe Alissa is competent, meaning he is able to understand legal proceedings and work with his lawyers to defend himself. Alissa is accused of opening fire outside and inside a King Soopers store in the college town of Boulder in March 2021, killing customers, workers and a police officer who rushed in to try to stop the attack. Alissa, who lived in the nearby suburb of Arvada, surrendered after another officer shot and wounded him, authorities said. Investigators have not revealed a … [Read more...] about Hearing set on competency of Colorado store shooting suspect
This trader bets against companies. Now he’s targeting one of the biggest.
Five years ago, Nate Anderson was a relative nobody living in a small Manhattan apartment he could barely afford. But he had an unusual talent: sniffing out corporate fraud, which this week landed him in a showdown with one of the world's richest men. Anderson made waves this week when his firm, Hindenburg Research, announced that it was betting against stocks linked to the Adani Group - an Indian energy and infrastructure conglomerate headed by Gautam Adani, a man whose estimated net worth at the start of this year exceeded that of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Hindenburg published a report that accused the Adani Group of, among other things, artificially boosting the share prices of its firms over several decades by using a network of overseas shell companies linked to Adani's family members. Hindenburg argued that Adani's companies were collectively overvalued on India's stock market by more than 80 percent. The allegations leveled by Hindenburg hit the Adani … [Read more...] about This trader bets against companies. Now he’s targeting one of the biggest.
