Minister of Transport, Kailash Gahlot, inaugurated India's first fully automated driving test centre (ADTC) at the regional transport office in Mayur Vihar Phase I, Delhi. Three more automated driving test centres were inaugurated at Vishwas Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan and Shakur Basti and eight more centres are in the pipeline. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has invested Rs 20 crore in building these centres. Although the department of transport, Delhi will operate the facility, Maruti Suzuki will maintain these centres for the next three years as apart of their CSR activity. The new ADTCs have scientifically designed test track and is equipped with multiple high definition cameras to help the authorities evaluate applicants on 20 essential driving skill in regard with Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways earlier this week announced a new Standard Operating Procedures for presenting vehicle documents for inspection. Vehicle owners can now present their documents like the certificate of registration, vehicle insurance, fitness and permit, driving license, certificate for pollution under check and other relevant documents in a digitised form. Delhi alone has over 1.06 crore registered vehicles, apart from the ones registered in NCR regions like Noida and Gurgaon that run on its roads, adding polluting its air big time These documents can be accessed via applications like 'Digilocker' and 'mParivahan' and can be presented when asked for. Enforcement agencies can simultaneously access these details from the eChallan app to verify their originality. These have the date of online verification of the vehicle and its licence status. Prices of new bikes and scooters are set to get a whole lot costlier for all new two-wheeler buyers from September 1, 2018. The price hike comes after the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India directed all insurance companies to mandatorily offer third party insurance of five years for all new two-wheelers. The price hike will be applicable to almost every motorcycle and scooter sold in India, which includes ones from leading brands such as Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj, Royal Enfield and TVS Motors. Bajaj is the first bike maker to have announced price hikes on the on-road prices for its bikes come September 1. MoneyControl is reporting that prices of Bajaj motorcycles on sale in India will rise by at least Rs 3,000 due to the new insurance rules.
