Honda has officially taken the wraps off the all-new 2019 Honda Insight ahead of its world debut at the 2018 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). The Insight moniker makes a return as a sedan now, filling the void created by the absence of a proper Civic Hybrid. The Insight joins the Clarity series and 2018 Accord Hybrid as the fifth new electrified Honda vehicle introduced over the past year. Positioned as a premium compact sedan, the Insight will be priced between the Civic FC and Accord in Honda’s passenger car line-up. In the US, it will be available in three trims – Insight LX, Insight EX and Insight Touring. All three variants share the same powertrain, that is Honda’s third-generation Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) two-motor hybrid system. It features a 1.5 litre Atkinson cycle engine, an electric motor and a 60-cell lithium-ion battery pack. Output is rated at 151 hp and 267 Nm of torque (best-in-class power-to-weight ratio), and it … [Read more...] about 2019 Honda Insight debuts
BMW’s upcoming all-electric SUV, the iX3, will reportedly make its debut in concept form at this year’s Beijing Motor Show. It was previously announced at the carmaker’s annual accounts press conference that the iX3 concept will be among a number of vehicles to debut this year. Others include the iNEXT and i4 (previewed by the i Vision Dynamics). Based on spyshots of the iX3, the model appears to be based on the current G01 X3, although it will likely get several visual changes to set it apart as an electric only vehicle. So far, there are no details about the electric powertrain used in the iX3, nor is there any word on range and performance. BMW is making a big push for electrified cars moving forward, and the iX3, iNEXT and i4 are just some of the models it has planned. “I have set clear goals for sustainable mobility: More than 140,000 electrified vehicles sold this year. A total of half a million electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids on the roads by the … [Read more...] about BMW iX3 Concept to debut at Beijing Motor Show?
China is Volkswagen’s largest market, and the Middle Kingdom has a voracious appetite for SUVs. It’s no surprise, then, that Wolfsburg has unveiled the latest version of its Touareg in Beijing, the first time the company has ever held a world premiere in the country. Sitting on the new MLB Evo platform shared with the latest Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga, the third-generation Touareg debuts a suite of new technologies hiding under its sharp suit. On the outside, the brand’s latest design language is clear to see, with a chrome-laden version of Volkswagen’s wide grille; the headlight graphics blend seamlessly into the horizontal slats. Along the side, there are fake front fender vents like on the Arteon, plus a crisp shoulder line and a prominent rear haunch. The rear receives wide two-piece tail lights, a full-width reflector and twin tailpipes. The new Touareg is longer, wider and slightly lower than before, measuring 4,878 mm long, 1,984 mm … [Read more...] about 2019 Volkswagen Touareg debuts with 15-inch display
A plastic bag has been identified as the reason behind Sergey Sirotkin's short-lived Formula 1 debut. The Williams driver became the first to retire from a race this season when he brought the car to a stop down the escape road at Turn 13. Sirotkin was running toward the very back of the pack when his race came to an abrupt end and chief technical officer Paddy Lowe explained how a freak incident had the Russian back in the garage very early on. "Our provisional analysis is that a plastic bag has been collected on the circuit, completely blocking the brake cooling, so that the right rear corner caught fire and eventually failed the hydraulics circuit," Lowe said. "His brake pedal went to the floor and he had to go down the escape lane. "That was the end of his race which is very unfortunate because it was his first F1 race and what he really needed to do was get some distance behind him so he could come back for the second event with race experience our objective, which we didn’t … [Read more...] about Plastic bag ruins Sirotkin’s Formula 1 debut
The fourth Volkswagen Golf Mk7.5 variant making its debut in Malaysia is the Volkswagen Golf R. The model was introduced alongside the Golf GTI and Golf 1.4 TSI Sportline/R-Line versions. The refresh brings about styling revisions – at the front, the facelift gets a new bumper, a revised lower grille intake design (a rectangular pattern replaces the previous horizontal slats) and new Advanced Adaptive LED headlamps with dynamic light assist. The rework also introduces LED tail lights and a revised four-slat diffuser at the rear as well as 19-inch Pretoria Black alloys – and 235/35 profile tyres – for the local specification car. The model’s 2.0 litre TSI engine has 290 PS at 5,500 to 6,500 rpm and 380 Nm from 2,000 to 5,400 rpm for output numbers – the 290 PS power rating (instead of the 310 PS seen in other markets) follows the path taken with the pre-facelift, in which the mill is detuned for our market. The unit is paired with a seven-speed, wet … [Read more...] about 2018 Volkswagen Golf R debuts in Malaysia
