Diego Maradona (centre during the 1986 World Cup) is widely considered one of the greatest footballers in history. BUENOS AIRES: Eight medical personnel will stand trial for alleged criminal negligence in the death of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, according to a court ruling made public on Wednesday. No date has been set for the trial of the staff over Maradona's death in 2020, which prosecutors say was due to "omissions" by his caregivers who abandoned him "to his fate" during home hospitalization. Maradona died aged 60 while recovering from brain surgery for a blood clot, and after decades of battles with cocaine and alcohol addictions. He was found dead in bed two weeks after going under the knife, in a rented house in an exclusive Buenos Aires neighborhood to where he was brought after being discharged from hospital. He was found to have died of a heart attack. A panel of 20 medical experts convened by Argentina's public prosecutor concluded last year that … [Read more...] about Medical staff to be tried for Maradona death

Making the Move from Medicine to Entrepreneurship
Medical professionals of all stripes do incredible work every day — often saving people's lives, alleviating pain or offering comfort. Exchanging the scrubs for a briefcase There are a number of reasons that someone in the medical field might be drawn to entrepreneurship. Collision over cannabis
Collision over cannabis Anutin: 'Don't politicise ganja' Two of the brightest stars in politics were on a collision course last week, which had observers speculating on the possibility of one plotting to upstage or even undermine the other. The delisting of cannabis as a narcotic has catapulted Anutin Charnvirakul to stardom, not only as public health minister but as leader of second-biggest coalition partner, the Bhumjaithai Party. As public health minister, he has pushed for cannabis to be decriminalised to allow people to capitalise on its medicinal properties and for research purposes. Also, he prides himself as being a leader of a political party able to overcome the unthinkable -- removing cannabis from the narcotics list -- which was adopted as Bhumjaithai's flagship campaign promise and dismissed by most people from the outset as wishful thinking. However, decriminalisation has come with a chorus of warnings from medical professionals about the dangers of … [Read more...] about Collision over cannabis
Immersive King Tut exhibit looks beyond the gold mask
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 WASHINGTON - The objects in the tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamen - or, as a new exhibition at the National Geographic Museum spells it, Tutankhamun - were meant to commemorate the Egyptian ruler's life and guide him to the next one. Since they were first unearthed almost exactly 100 years ago, such exquisite artifacts as the golden funerary mask of Tut, as he is more commonly known today, have attracted widespread interest and admiration. But "Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience" emphasizes nonmaterial aspects of the boy king's significance. Its centerpiece is an animation of the dead king's journey to the afterlife, as imagined from the text known as the Egyptian Book of the Dead. The organizers of this almost entirely virtual-reality exhibition didn't have much choice but to take this approach, since the relics from Tut's tomb are no longer available … [Read more...] about Immersive King Tut exhibit looks beyond the gold mask
