Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 By now, in the wake of the Golden Globes, this week's Oscar nominations, a raft of smaller film awards and a flotilla of top 10 lists, a consensus has started to congeal around the quote-unquote best movies of 2022, with "Everything Everywhere All at Once," "The Banshees of Inisherin," "Tár," "Aftersun" and "Elvis" leading the pack of last year's most honored films. But not so fast. Keep reading, and you'll notice that one of those titles - I'm looking at you, "Elvis" - also appears in the list below, a compendium of the bottom tier of reviews by The Washington Post's critics: movies that couldn't muster up more than 1 1/2 stars out of four. It's often more fun to read a bad review than a good one. And sometimes it can be more fun to watch a bad movie - or at least a polarizing one - than something that has garnered universal acclaim. In the spirit of service journalism, … [Read more...] about The 22 movies we hated in 2022 – and how to watch them, if you must

Arizona dad seeking answers after son dies in state care
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Richard Blodgett, a single father, was jailed on a drug charge when a worker from Arizona's child welfare agency delivered the news: His son was brain dead and on life support — just days after being taken into state custody. Blodgett screamed, cried and screamed some more. Jakob was his only son, a “darn cute," curious 9-year-old who loved remote control cars and video games. Blodgett is now struggling to understand how it happened. A medical examiner listed Jakob's death in late December as natural with complications from diabetes, a condition he was diagnosed with as a toddler. Specifically, Type 1 diabetes, which means his body was unable to produce enough insulin to survive. Blodgett said he suspects the Arizona Department of Child Safety failed in its duty to protect his son, either by not monitoring his blood sugar levels or not … [Read more...] about Arizona dad seeking answers after son dies in state care
New Brittney Griner comic book dives into WNBA career, Russian jail time
The life of basketball star Brittney Griner has been immortalized within the glossy pages of a new 22-page comic book by TidalWave Comics. Dubbed "Female Force: Brittney Griner," the comic written by Michael Frizell and illustrated by Martin Gimenez, chronicles Griner's journey from her exploration in her sexuality and identity, playing collegiate basketball at Baylor University and rise to fame in the WNBA, to her harrowing detainment in Russia and recent return to the U.S. Griner, 32, was arrested on Feb. 17, 2022 at a Russian airport for carrying vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage. She later pleaded guilty to drug smuggling charges and was sentenced to nine years in a Russian penal colony. After 10 months in custody, Griner was released on Dec. 8 in a one-for-one prisoner swap for notorious international arms dealer Viktor Bout . In her brief time back in the U.S ., the two-time Olympic gold medalist and eight-time WNBA All-Star has already … [Read more...] about New Brittney Griner comic book dives into WNBA career, Russian jail time
Spa WEC: Toyota pulls clear of privateer rivals in FP2
Listen to this article Mike Conway set the pace with a 1m56.172s lap at the start of the session aboard the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid, an improvement of more than two seconds over Fernando Alonso's session one best. Kazuki Nakajima was fastest in the sister Toyota on a 1m56.815s in the 90-minute afternoon session. That put them comfortably ahead of the best privateer lap of 1m58.835s set by Pietro Fittipaldi in DragonSpeed's Gibson-powered BR Engineering BR1. The two Rebellion R-13-Gibsons took fourth and fifth positions in the times. Gustavo Menezes posted a 1m59.011s to end up just over half a second up on teammate Neel Jani. The two SMP Racing BR1s, which are powered by the AER turbo engine, took sixth and seventh, ahead of the ByKolles ENSO CLM P1/01-Nissan. Stephane Sarrazin set the fastest SMP time with a 2m00.035s before putting the car in the gravel at Stavelot, causing the first of two red flags. Pictures: Improving the look of the 2012 F1 cars – F1 Fanatic
Recent rules changes have conspired to give us a very strange-looking generation of F1 cars. The aerodynamic changes introduced in 2009, followed by the reduction in nose height brought in this year, has led to creations which run the gamut from awkward to outright ugly. Maximum-width front wings, plus disproportionately narrow rear wings, plus stepped noses equals some decidedly unattractive cars. “The undoubted ugliness of 90% of the 2012 F1 cars just means it’s more of a challenge to make them look good in pictures,” lamented photographer Darren Heath on Twitter recently. Happily the FIA is planning to tweak the rules in the future : reducing the height of the front bulkhead to do away with the steps, and reducing the width of the front wings. So how could the improved generation of 2012 cars look? It’s over to graphic designer Jeremy Hancox who’s already posted some excellent designs in the forum . First up Jeremy tackles one of the least attractive cars on the … [Read more...] about Pictures: Improving the look of the 2012 F1 cars – F1 Fanatic

Road To Indy, IMS: Megennis, VeeKay, Lindh, Eves are winners
Listen to this article Indy Lights In Race 1, after exchanging positions at the end of the pit straight on Laps 2 and 3, polesitter Robert Megennis and Andretti Autosport teammate Oliver Askew firmly established themselves in that order. Megennis then started edging clear, getting the lead up to 2.4sec, as Askew simultaneously pulled two seconds on Juncos Racing’s Rinus VeeKay. The Dutchman had started second, fell back, but had then prevailed in an exciting side-by-side duel with the third Andretti machine of Ryan Norman to reclaim a spot on the podium. BN Racing’s David Malukas had also taken advantage of Norman’s lost momentum to grab fourth, but Norman moved back ahead on Lap 16 of the 30-lap race. Megennis let his lead dwindle to under 2sec in the closing stages but easily scored his first Lights win, with VeeKay four seconds behind Askew and 2.3sec ahead of Norman. Zachary Claman’s Belardi Auto Racing was 16sec from P1 at the drop of the checkered flag, with Malukas … [Read more...] about Road To Indy, IMS: Megennis, VeeKay, Lindh, Eves are winners
Road America Road To Indy: Norman, VeeKay take Lights wins
Listen to this article Indy Lights Race 1 started off as a real thriller. Juncos Racing’s Rinus VeeKay made a perfect start but Robert Megennis passed Andretti Autosport teammate Ryan Norman around the outside to grab second place. That became a battle for the lead when VeeKay ran wide at Turn 7 and then blocked Megennis as he rejoined the track, and so had to serve a drive-through penalty. On Lap 2, Aaron Telitz in the Belardi Auto Racing machine took advantage of Megennis having to hold off first Toby Sowery’s BN Racing/Team Pelfrey car and then the recovering Norman to pass all three and grab the lead on his home track. However, up the pitstraight next time by, Norman got ahead of Telitz and down to Turn 5 Sowery zapped past the Belardi car too. While 1.6sec covered these three, Megennis was 1.9sec back but well clear of David Malukas (BN Racing) and the surprisingly off-the-pace Oliver Askew. By Lap 8, Sowery had dropped off Norman’s tail, however, and Telitz … [Read more...] about Road America Road To Indy: Norman, VeeKay take Lights wins
