Red Bull reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo is going to host an alternate telecast of the Canadian Grand Prix, alongside Canadian actor and comedian Will Arnett. The pair will commentate on the Canadian Grand Prix on ESPN2 for American television, while coverage of the race continues on ABC at the scene of Ricciardo’s first victory in Formula 1 back in 2014. Co-host Arnett, best known for his roles on shows like Bojack Horseman, 30 Rock and Arrested Development , is a relative newcomer to the world of Formula 1, but has become a fan and has worked with two-time World Champion, Mika Hakkinen on his Formula 1 podcast, Fast and Loose . Ricciardo joins ESPN for ‘alternate’ F1 TV coverage of Canadian GP
Ricciardo will join Toronto-born comedian Will Arnett for the Montreal race and similar broadcasts of the Austin and Las Vegas races later in the year. The show, to be known as The Grandstand with Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett, will start at 1.55pm ET on race day in Montreal. It will run in parallel with the regular live race coverage on ABC. Ricciardo and Arnett will talk about the race live as it unfolds, with help from special guests. “This is going to be a hoot!” said Ricciardo. “As you’d expect Will and I are going to have some fun with the show, but we’re hoping it just feels like you’re watching F1 with your mates. “We will have some amazing guests, plenty of laughs and with some luck, bring fans another step closer to the sport I love so much. Giedo van der Garde has been handed a five-place grid position penalty for the British Grand Prix. He received the penalty following his collision with Nico Hulkenberg which ended both of their races. The stewards ruled Van der Garde had been too slow to respond to blue flags instructing him to let the Sauber past. Van der Garde was shown blue flags for a full lap and Hulkenberg had to use his DRS and KERS to get alongside the Caterham at the final corner. The pair then collided, damaging Van der Garde’s front wing and Hulkenberg’s suspension.
