The FIA says it has no legality concerns over the upgrade Aston Martin has introduced to its car for this weekend’s race. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said the update Aston Martin has brought to the Spanish Grand Prix was inspired by his team’s car. “Copying is the biggest form of flattery,” Horner told the BBC. “It’s quite a thing to instruct your team to come up with a very close-looking clone of our car.” Horner pointed out Aston Martin have also hired several ex-Red Bull staff. They include head of technical operations Andrew Alessi and head of aerodynamics Dan Fallows, though the latter only arrived at Aston Martin last month, long after work on the upgrade would have begun. “Of course a few people have moved over the winter period,” said Horner. “What you can’t control is what they take in their heads. An Aston Martin spokesperson said the team had co-operated with the FIA’s inquiries over how the … [Read more...] about FIA confirm Aston Martin complied with rules after Horner raises “copying” concern · RaceFans

No concerns over Mercedes’ strategies despite radio messages – Hamilton · RaceFans
Lewis Hamilton says that his radio messages appearing to question Mercedes’ strategy calls just show his desire to succeed. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Formula 1’s world television feed has played multiple radio messages from Hamilton this season suggesting he was unhappy with certain strategy calls made by the team after he fell behind team mate George Russell during races. Other messages not broadcast on the world feed showed Hamilton was actually referring to the need to lift and coast to reduce the temperature of his power unit . Spanish GP upgrade will decide whether Mercedes change design philosophy – Russell · RaceFans
George Russell says that the Spanish Grand Prix will mark a key weekend in determining the future development of Mercedes’ W13. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The team lies third in the constructors’ championship, well behind Red Bull and Ferrari. Mercedes have struggled to match the pace of both teams and suffered especially acute problems with porpoising. With many teams, including Mercedes, bringing a wealth of upgrades to Barcelona this race weekend , Russell says the team’s performance could influence the development path they follow for the rest of the 2022 season. “I think this weekend is for sure going to be important, as most weekends are,” Russell said. “But I think Rome wasn’t built in a day and it is taking time to first recognise what the problems are, develop things back at the factory to try and resolve these problems and then try to implement them.” Following the first pre-season test at the Circuit de Catalunya three months ago … [Read more...] about Spanish GP upgrade will decide whether Mercedes change design philosophy – Russell · RaceFans

Why ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 was such a letdown
In its first two outings, the auteur-driven, genre-defying absurdist dramedy "Atlanta" - about an aimless, upwardly immobile Princeton dropout named Earn (played by series creator Donald Glover) who remakes himself as the manager of his cousin Alfred's (Brian Tyree Henry) fledgling rap career - was one of the most acclaimed shows on television. The crown jewel of its network, the already prestige-laden FX, it boasted Emmys, star power, buzz, influence and a rare, smirking wit that seldom got its due in the countless, and fully deserved, paeans to its trenchant social commentary and boundary-pushing experimentation. Perhaps the surest sign of its success is how many shows it's inspired; it's hard to imagine critic's darlings like "Dave," "Ramy" or "Reservation Dogs" existing without it. But Season 3, which premiered this spring after a four-year hiatus, has had a more mixed reception. Much of it follows the cousins on Al's (aka Paper Boi) latest European tour, where they're joined by … [Read more...] about Why ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 was such a letdown
Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo hit by cold wave
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 SAO PAULO (AP) — In Rio de Janeiro, bold swimmers have been discouraged from diving into the cold ocean, while Sao Paulo authorities had to open up subway stations to accommodate homeless people as Brazil's south experienced unusually low temperatures on Friday. Temperatures on Friday morning dropped below 23 Fahrenheit (-5 Celsius) in Santa Catarina state, covering several municipalities with a thin layer of snow. Earlier this week a fierce hailstorm scared residents of Rio's west zone. For many Brazilians, accustomed to more clement weather in the tropical South American country, such events are considered extreme. Earlier this week, authorities in Rio Grande do Sul, canceled soccer matches, closed public buildings early and suspended classes in schools and universities due to fears of major disruptions. There, nearly 182,000 homes were left without … [Read more...] about Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo hit by cold wave
Biden weighs meeting with Saudi de facto ruler in sign of thaw
President Joe Biden is weighing a meeting with Saudi Arabia's Mohammed bin Salman as soon as next month, according to people familiar with the matter, after avoiding contact with the crown prince over the murder of columnist Jamal Khashoggi. The move will mark a significant shift for Biden. Early in his presidency, the White House had said that Biden would deal only with Saudi Arabia's official head of state, King Salman bin Abdulaziz. An administration official, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, said Biden may visit the Middle East for meetings with the Gulf Cooperation Council, a regional political and economic union, and noted that Saudi Arabia currently holds the presidency of the group. At stake is a decades-old partnership that's given the U.S. clout in the world's top energy-exporting region. Spiraling U.S. gasoline prices have raised pressure on Biden to make amends with the prince because he effectively controls the levers of power … [Read more...] about Biden weighs meeting with Saudi de facto ruler in sign of thaw
