November 8, 2018, 2:31 pm by Justin King Trucks built after July feature a strengthened cab mount at the C-pillars. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has revised the 2019 Ram 1500's structure to improve performance in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests. The previous generation received a 'marginal' rating in the driver-side small overlap test and roof-strength test. The crew-cab and extended-cab editions were the worst performers of any 2018 vehicle in roof strength.Vehicles built after July feature additional strengthening where the cab mounts to the frame near the C-pillars. Small-overlap performance consequently improved to a 'good' rating despite some risk of injury to the lower leg and foot."Despite the improvements, the truck falls short of a Top Safety Pick award because its best available headlights earn only a marginal rating," the IIHS says. … [Read more...] about Redesigned Ram 1500 improves crash test ratings

Tata proudly releases Nexon ad showing ‘4 Star’ crash test rating
Global NCAP, a non-governmental crash test rating agency, tested the India-spec Tata Nexon and awarded it a four star rating. Global NCAP also noted that the Nexon’s structure was stable during the crash test and that it could withstand higher loading, which essentially means that the compact SUV is a strong vehicle. Global NCAP praised the overall safety offered by the Tata Nexon. Now, Tata Motors has come up with a web ad that proudly talks about the Nexon’s 4 star crash test safety rating. The ad also calls the Nexon India’s ‘safest SUV’. Now, this can be quite debatable as there are vehicles such as the Ford EcoSport and the Hyundai Creta, which have also received high NCAP ratings but Global NCAP is yet to test the India-made versions of these SUVs. As there’s no real comparison available to the Tata Nexon’s 4 star rating yet, Tata Motors may be able to project the Nexon as India’s safest compact SUV, at least until Global NCAP tests … [Read more...] about Tata proudly releases Nexon ad showing ‘4 Star’ crash test rating
ASEAN NCAP awards Renault Kwid a zero star crash test rating
ASEAN NCAP recently carried out crash testing of the India-made Renault Kwid sold in Indonesia and announced the results this morning. The agency has awarded the Renault Kwid a zero star crashworthiness rating. As per ASEAN NCAP's methodology, the Renault Kwid scored 10.12 points when it came to Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 14.56 points under the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. The lack of any Safety Assist Technologies (SATs) meant that the Kwid drew a blank against this category. As tested, the hatchback has a single driver's side airbag only. A cumulative score of 24.68 points resulted in ASEAN NCAP awarding it a zero star rating.Commenting on the disappointing result, Global NCAP Secretary-General, Mr David Ward called out Renault's double standards and questioned its decision to sell structurally inferior versions of the Kwid in South East Asia compared to Latin America where the hatchback received 3/5 stars.ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Ir. Dr Khairil … [Read more...] about ASEAN NCAP awards Renault Kwid a zero star crash test rating
Explorer, Grand Cherokee get poor crash-test ratings
Keith Laing The Detroit News Published 5:16 p.m. UTC Jun 12, 2018 Washington — The 2018 Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee earned “poor” ratings in crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which represents the insurance industry. The institute said the Explorer and Grand Cherokee were the only models to receive low marks in its most recent tests of mid-size SUV crashes when the front passenger-side corner of the vehicle strikes another vehicle or an object such as a tree or utility pole. Such crashes are known as small-overlap collisions. The IIHS said the Explorer and Grand Cherokee had "serious issues with structure, restraints and injuries." Six other models that were tested by the group — the 2019 Kia Sorento and 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, GMC Acadia, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder and Honda Pilot — received "good" or "acceptable" rating in the tests. Redesigned 2018 Chevrolet Equinox fails to earn safety accolades despite stellar crash-test ratings
Despite posting stellar crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the redesigned 2018 Chevy Equinox failed to earn any accolades from the independent safety watchdog. In its recent safety evaluations of seven crossovers, the redesigned Equinox SUV batted 1,000 in all five crashworthiness categories, including the newly introduced passenger-side small overlap front crash test. Across the board, the Equinox clinched a Good rating – the highest rating given by the institute – in both the driver- and passenger-side small overlap front tests, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength, and head restraints and seats. Regarding crash avoidance, the Equinox earned the highest Superior rating since it avoided a collision in the low-speed 12 mph test and reduced its speed by 22 mph in the high-speed 25 mph test. The Chevy Equinox’s automatic emergency braking system is optionally equipped as part of the Confidence and Convenience II … [Read more...] about Redesigned 2018 Chevrolet Equinox fails to earn safety accolades despite stellar crash-test ratings
