Admissions data from Norfolk County Council shows three schools – Thetford Academy, North Walsham High School and Sewell Park Academy in Norwich – had more than one third of their places empty as of March 1, the day offers were announced.The figures are less dramatic than in 2018, when three schools in the county had more than half their places unfilled.As of March 1, 9,039 of the 9,781 places in the county’s 52 high schools for 2019/20 were filled.Thetford Academy, run by the Inspiration Trust, had the highest proportion of empty places, with only 202 of 330 places filled. Plans for the first stage of a brand new secondary school in Acton , which will provide places for 1,200 pupils, have been approved by Ealing Council's planning committee. At a meeting at Ealing Town Hall on Wednesday (May 23) the committee unanimously voted through plans for the Ark Soane Academy to go-ahead at the former site of Ealing Hammersmith and West London College in Gunnersbury Lane. The plans involve using existing buildings and new structures to create a three-storey school. The secondary school will take 180 Year 7 pupils in 2019 and another 180 Year 7 pupils each year until it reaches full capacity of 1,200 pupils in 2025. That’s according to Public Health, which commissioned a questionnaire of 3,300 primary and secondary school students for a survey about young people’s lifestyles in the borough. The biannual survey, which was carried out last summer, said 18pc of Year 10 pupils said they had been attacked – or someone had tried to attack them. The figure was 11pc for Year 8.
