In the first part of F1 Fanatic’s look at the year in statistics, here’s how 2012 compared with previous seasons. It includes a look at how the team mates at the top four teams have compared since 2010, updated statistics on all the world champions and how ever-increasing reliability is changing the championship. U.S. Sen. John Cornyn eyes the seemingly impossible: a bipartisan deal on immigration
EL PASO — A long trail of SUVs snaked out of El Paso carrying a group of U.S. senators into southern New Mexico on a recent, chilly night. Like a funeral procession, the oversized cars glided through traffic with hazard lights on, turning onto a paved road to survey portions of the Mexican border. In one of the cars was Sen. John Cornyn , who helped organize the delegation’s trip to his home state. The Texas Republican, who has railed about the border crisis from Washington, D.C., for months, wanted his peers to see the situation with their own eyes and better understand Border Patrol’s work and its challenges. They drove into the pitch black night until coming across a pair of Border Patrol agents who had apprehended two weary Chinese nationals. Cornyn and the other senators peppered the agents with questions, including whether the migrants had drugs; they did not. The senators were invited to look at the migrants’ travel documents and watch the agents confiscate their … [Read more...] about U.S. Sen. Mercedes blunder hands win to Rosberg – F1 Fanatic
With 15 laps to go, Lewis Hamilton would have been forgiven for thinking he had the Monaco Grand Prix bought and paid for. Any semblance of threat from his team mate Nico Rosberg had long since receded. The other Mercedes was preoccupied with the challenging Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel. With Rosberg 19.2 seconds in arrears at the end of lap 63, Hamilton could back off to the tune of a second per lap and still cruise home to victory. But a violent crash at Sainte Devote and a hasty reaction on the Mercedes pit wall was about to put paid to that. Hamilton stays ahead An hour and a half earlier, Hamilton had shown his pursuers a clean pair of heels when the red lights went out. Sebastian Vettel dived to the inside of Rosberg but the Mercedes carried enough momentum around the outside to stay ahead, despite a surface made slippery by the cement dust used to clean up a support race crash. Kvyat came within millimetres of creaming into the back of Vettel’s car as the … [Read more...] about Mercedes blunder hands win to Rosberg – F1 Fanatic
Poll: Which F1 team will be Mercedes’ biggest threat in 2021? · RaceFans
Out of last year’s 17 races, Mercedes walked away with 13 wins and 15 pole positions, not to mention their seventh consecutive pair of championship titles. Will their opponents let them get away with it just as easily again in the 2021 F1 season ? Who will be the biggest threat to the three-pointed star? Join in our first poll of the new year. Red Bull For Max Verstappen , Red Bull have arguably the best driver in Formula 1 right now, besides Hamilton. He won twice last year and, arguably more impressively, ended the season just nine points shy of the second Mercedes, despite having a far less competitive and reliable car. Red Bull made clear progress throughout 2020 which bodes well for them in a season where teams can only make limited changes to their cars. The arrival of Sergio Perez alongside Verstappen gives them their most experienced driver line-up for years. Against The team’s performance over the second half of 2020 was flattered by how little development … [Read more...] about Poll: Which F1 team will be Mercedes’ biggest threat in 2021? · RaceFans
Be Well, Stay Well: New Year Wellness Check
(BPT) - Taking care of ourselves and each other is critical at any age. A 2022 survey of members by AARP Services confirmed that adults 50-plus share that sentiment. Seventy-one percent agreed with the statement, "My health is my biggest concern," while 89% agreed with the statement, "Taking care of my family is my first priority." Despite considering it important, though, the pandemic led many to fall behind on regular check-ups. In a Feb. 12-17, 2021 TIME-Harris Poll survey , 78% of respondents reported they had put off at least some medical services during the previous three months. It is likely these appointments seemed non-critical at the time, especially relative to the risk of exposure to more serious illness, but continually neglecting them can lead to other, more significant issues down the road. With a new year underway, there’s no time like the present to get back into the wellness groove and stay there for good. Fortunately, AARP member benefits offer many ways to … [Read more...] about Be Well, Stay Well: New Year Wellness Check

Rolex 24: Meyer Shank Racing wins again, leads Acura 1-2
Listen to this article Blomqvist crossed the finish line 4.1 seconds clear of the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing ARX-06 of Filipe Albuquerque, Ricky Taylor, Brendon Hartley and Louis Deletraz in a nailbiting finish to the 61st running of the Florida endurance classic, which was punctuated by 14 caution periods. After a long stretch of green-flag running in the morning hours, a series of full-course yellows kept the top four cars – the two Acuras and Chip Ganassi Racing's pair of Cadillac V-LMDhs – separated by just a handful of seconds in the closing stages. The yellows helped the WTR Acura, which had dropped three laps off the pace in the night to replace an oil filler bracket, back onto the lead lap, and Albuquerque was able to pass both Ganassi Cadillacs to move up from fourth place to second. However, Blomqvist was unstoppable aboard the MSR Acura after taking over for the final 90 minutes or so, surviving three restarts with his lead intact to deliver a second consecutive … [Read more...] about Rolex 24: Meyer Shank Racing wins again, leads Acura 1-2
‘The Last of Us’ recap: A kinder, more loving tale for Bill and Frank
The third episode of HBO's "The Last of Us" might be one of the show's finest hours. Most of it largely ignores protagonists Joel and Ellie to focus on the tale of Bill and Frank, minor characters in the game whose story here is transformed in unexpected, kinder ways. In the game, Frank and Bill are two older gay men whose story ended with bitter suicide, leaving a lonely Bill to stew in his resentment and regret. Episode 3 begins with Joel and Ellie in the wake of Tess's sacrifice to save them both. We start 10 miles west of Boston, and we can sense Joel's acrimony toward Ellie. Bella Ramsey's Ellie, in a strong display of emotional intelligence, senses this and preemptively lectures Joel: "You made a choice, so don't blame me for something that isn't my fault." Joel, with Pedro Pascal's sunken face, nods back knowingly. You almost get that Joel respects Ellie for her read on him, and her reasoning. This is shown immediately as the pair walk along and Joel lets down his guard a … [Read more...] about ‘The Last of Us’ recap: A kinder, more loving tale for Bill and Frank
