Listen to this article Varrone joins Corvette’s line-up following a successful appearance in the post-season rookie test in Bahrain, where he was pitted against Zimbabwean driver Axcil Jefferies, and a private run at Sebring in December. This would be Varrone’s second full campaign in the GT ranks after a successful 2022 season which yielded a class win with Rinaldi Racing in the European Le Mans Series and outright honours in the 24H Series race in Barcelona. Varrone's teammates, factory driver Catsburg and bronze-rated Keating, were named by Corvette when it announced in October that it will be racing in the GTE Am division in 2023. “I’m really, really happy and over the moon for this opportunity. The FIA’s announcement yesterday of a restructuring of its Formula 1 operation is intended to draw a line under a process which began in response to the controversial conclusion to the 2021 world championship. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free It will inevitably focus attention on whether the sport’s governing body can reduce the confusion, inconsistencies and errors which created too many problems during races last year. The FIA embarked on an “analysis and clarification exercise” three days after the 2021 season ended in bitter recriminations at Yas Marina . The outcome appeared three months later as a 3,300-word report which laid out the reasoning for a raft of changes to how the sport’s governing body runs the races which constitute its most prestigious championship. Race director Michael Masi was removed from his position for failing to enforce the series’ rules correctly in the final lap restart which decided the destiny of the 2021 drivers’ title. … [Read more...] about The errors the FIA must not repeat in 2023 after completing F1 race control overhaul · RaceFans

Logan Sargeant completes F1 2023 grid with Williams after securing Super Licence

November 20, 2022 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Logan Sargeant will drive for Williams in Formula 1 next season after securing his Super Licence in the F2 season finale at Abu Dhabi. Williams boss Jost Capito confirmed in late October that Sargeant would be Alex Albon’s new team-mate in 2023 if he acquired enough points to hold the Super Licence needed to race in Formula 1. And the 21-year-old American did exactly that at the Yas Marina circuit, keeping himself out of trouble with a P6 finish in the sprint race followed by a P5 result in Sunday’s race proper. It meant that he finished the season with 148 points, enough to lock down P4 in the F2 Championship and confirm his step up to Formula 1 next season with Williams. Sargeant’s arrival on the F1 grid means the sport is set to see its first US racer in a Grand Prix since Alexander Rossi in 2015. But, whilst it is jubilation for Sargeant, it is the final hammer blow for Mick Schumacher, who would have been on Williams’ back-up list had Sargeant not secured his Super … [Read more...] about Logan Sargeant completes F1 2023 grid with Williams after securing Super Licence

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 American Airlines and two smaller carriers gave more proof Thursday of the recovery in air travel, posting better-than-expected profit for the fourth quarter, while Southwest Airlines lost money because of massive flight cancellations last month. Southwest said it expects another loss in the first quarter from lingering effects of last month's meltdown, although it said booking trends for March were encouraging. Southwest reported a $220 million loss after taking a hit of $800 million from canceling nearly 17,000 flights over the last 10 days of December. The airline had signaled it would lose money, but the adjusted loss of 38 cents per share was worse than the 7 cents per share that Wall Street expected. The airline said it will lose up to $350 million in first-quarter revenue because the December cancellations hurt bookings for January and February.
