Mike Jones’ race in the NASCAR Late Model 100 ended with a big fiery crash, so his dad and Crew Chief Dean jumped to the rescue in an act of pure love, pulling Mike out of the burning race car and even going back in to turn on the car’s fire suppression system. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the all-time one true NASCAR dad. Jones’ No. 39 was racing side by side with the No. 83 car when they collided coming out of a turn at South Boston Speedway in West Virginia. Both cars spun out as a result and Jones hit the track’s inner wall hard. Sparks from Jones’ car ignited the fuel spilling out underneath it, causing a big blaze. It was then that Mike’s dad Dean sprung into action, running towards the car fire to help Mike get out as soon as possible. Dean told RacingNews.co that Mike was hung up inside the car, which explains why he didn’t immediately get out: Mike was momentarily hung up from getting out of the car but he knows I would have never … [Read more...] about ‘No One Except Sweet Baby Jesus’ Could Stop Dad From Pulling His Son Out Of A Burning Race Car

Tesla will operate its assembly plant in California “24/7" as part of an effort to ramp up production of the Model 3 sedan to 6,000 units per week by June, CEO Elon Musk told the company Tuesday, in an email obtained by Jalopnik. In a lengthy email sent around 12:30 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday, Musk laid out a number of changes that covered production of the Model 3 to expenditures over the coming year, as Tesla attempts to achieve sustained profitability by the end of 2018. Musk confirmed earlier reports that production Fremont and the Gigafactory in Nevada will be suspended for a few days for a “comprehensive set of upgrades,” he said. “This should set us up for Model 3 production of 3000 to 4000 per week next month,” Musk wrote. Then, in May, the automaker will do more work on the Model 3 line that, according to Musk, should allow it to hit a production capacity of 6,000 Model 3s per week by the end of June. Tesla has struggled with production of the Model … [Read more...] about Tesla Switching To 24/7 Shifts To Push For 6,000 Model 3s Per Week By June, Elon Musk Says
It’s been a time-tested Democratic attack line: Republicans are going to take away your Medicare, or maybe your Social Security. We gave a variant of the line our 2011 Lie of the Year. Now the talking point has re-emerged, in a March 29 tweet, from Oregon’s Ron Wyden, the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee:https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/tulsaworld.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/6/06/6064442a-161f-5565-b0e6-0e2f7b3a02cf/59d287b938c4b.image.png"#TrumpTax was only the beginning. John Le Carre’s superb A Perfect Spy opens with a curious quote, attributed to “Proverb”: A man who has two women loses his soul. But a man who has two houses loses his head.I’m not so sure about the first part of that. The virtue of dating two (or more) women is that you don’t expect that any one of them will fulfill all your requirements, which prevents you from becoming overly demanding or difficult with them. As to the second part, all I can tell you is that when I’ve owned rental property I’ve found it to be more hassle than it was worth. I suspect the original author of the proverb was not talking about that situation. Nor was he referring to our blessed above-one-percent crowd who frequently own domiciles on both coasts, or vacation homes in sunny spots. Rather, he probably meant that a man who operates two separate families will lose his mind. This sort of thing was more common in the days before Equifax and cell phones, mind you.The … [Read more...] about Ask Jack: Tryin’ to Love Two
It’s odd to consider, but in a world where Steve McQueen had never lived I’d be about three dozen serious injuries better off than I am today. Scratch that. I don’t need him to have never lived. I just need him to have not supported the production of “On Any Sunday.”That film romanticizes the Elsinore GP, which in turn led me to enter the Elsinore GP, which led me to break my leg training for the Elsinore GP, which led me to record a big fat DNS for the Elsinore GP. Worse than that, however, the opening sequence of “On Any Sunday” is commonly understood to be the catalyst for the sport of bicycle motocross, which has treated me worse than Ike Turner treated Tina. Not that I bear any grudge against the man, mind you. I do, however, have complete and abiding contempt for the consumer-driven culture of McQueen worship that has arisen in the past 20 years or so. If you wear Hunsiker McQueen shoes or a McQueen T-shirt, or if you repeat the … [Read more...] about TTAC at the Movies: ‘Bullitt’
