The game marks 30 years of DTM racing. Mercedes has announced that after 30 years it will leave Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters at the end of 2018, and it's saying auf wiedersehen with a retro video game and contest. Mercedes has been an anchor constructor for DTM for three decades, and in the process created legendary race cars such as the 190E 2.5 16 Evo II and the CLK DTM, along with their corresponding street-legal homologation specials. To mark 30 years of racing, the company has released an online video game called, simply, Retro Game. Its graphics recall the 8-bit games of the original Nintendo era such as Rad Racer. The object of the game is to drive what appears to be a Mercedes CLK DTM race car, trying to achieve the highest score within the allotted time. Collecting Mercedes-Benz logos will earn points and give your car a speed boost. Hit the other cars, which appear to be Audis, and they will slow you down as you lose points. Every day you play the game, your email … [Read more...] about Mercedes releases retro DTM racing game
It's always fascinating to see how a manufacturer turns a triumphant season in motorsport to its advantage. The old adage of 'win of Sunday, sell on Monday' isn't always an easy to pull off when you've been supplying championship-winning Formula 1 engines, but are best known for hatchbacks and people carriers (see Espace F1 for Renault's enterprising solution). Even when the synergies do suggest themselves, the dots aren't necessarily joined up with much conviction. Citroen and Volkswagen, for example, spent the last ten years politely sharing domination of the WRC with nothing more to show for it in the showroom than a lacklustre Polo GTI and a so-so DS3. Of course, when carmakers do get it right, the results tend to be memorable. Typically (though not always) this occurs when they resolve to throw even more money, power and components at a road car already jam-packed with all three. Mercedes-AMG has made this kind of endeavour a speciality, and did not miss the opportunity in … [Read more...] about CLK DTM AMG: Showpiece of the Week
The Mercedes CLK DTM AMG is one of the greatest cars ever made by AMG. Built to celebrate the CLK DTM’s championship win in 2003 with Bernd Schneider, AMG produced 100 examples of the coupe version and later on, in 2007, 80 units of the cabrio version. A coupe version is for sale at a luxury british dealer for 275,000 pounds (aprox. 315,000 euro). The street version of the Mercedes CLK DTM AMG features a de-tuned version of the SLS AMG’s 5.4-litre engine, racing-inspired suspension and a luxurious interior. The famous AMG 5.4 litre V8 was adapted for the street and it has new pistons, valve gear, crankcase, cooling system, exhaust, supercharger, while the huge power of 582 HP is delivered to the rear wheels through a five speed automatic gearbox 5G-Tronic Speedshift. The car reaches 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. Step inside and you are greeted with stunning one piece carbon fibre bucket seats, oval … [Read more...] about Mercedes CLK DTM AMG for sale at 275,000 pounds
Tweet TweetWhile there is a new Mercedes CLK out and about, a new Mercedes CLK Black Series isn’t exactly available. This is why RENNtech has decided to give the older one a serious treat in preparation for its send off. Among other offerings from the Americans, the AMG Black gets a new aerodynamic kit to help it stick to the ground as best possible. There’s just one thing, like the CLK 63 AMG Black, the RENNtech aero kit doesn’t tell the entire story in its spec sheet list. With RENNtech’s additions we find that all components have been properly researched into offering seamless applicability and fittings to the original body work. Apart from looking good and not falling off the kit is said to offer improvements in vehicle performance and handling. That’s all lovely, but we should speak about what comes included in the price. Speaking of which, the entire RENNtech setup will cost you a fiver under $6500. For that sort of money you get three things that … [Read more...] about RENNtech update the Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black
If you don’t know what the CLK DTM AMG actually is, you might easily dismiss it as just a limited edition of Merc’s compact coupe with pumped-up arches and big rims. Well, for starters it’s more powerful than a Black Series, with 582hp and 800Nm (590lb-ft) of torque from a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 and a 0-60mph (0-96km/h) sprint in 3.6 seconds, and it’s faster than some modern AMGs. Moreover, it was aimed to be a homologation special for Merc’s German Touring Car Championship contender. As such, the company built just 100 units for the Coupe (and 60 convertibles the next year), of which only 40 were right-hand drive models imported to the UK, so it’s rarer than a McLaren F1. Thus, it has all of the ingredients that make it a collector’s item, and such cars don’t pop up for sale that often. Whenever they do, though, they change hands for six-digit sums, and this particular RHD example is estimated to fetch £180,000-£220,000 … [Read more...] about How Much Would You Pay For A Barely-Driven Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM?
