Oscar Piastri recently took in his first official day of work at the McLaren Technology Centre, and the team released a behind-the-scenes video of what he got up to. Greeting him upon entry to the MTC was a statue of team founder, Bruce McLaren, and although he came from New Zealand with Piastri a near neighbour Down Under, he’s ready for the journey to begin. He said: “60th year of racing here at McLaren this year. So for me, it’s pretty special to be starting my journey with McLaren in such a historic year. I won’t hold the fact that he was a Kiwi against him, but that’s okay…” PlanetF1.com recommends Daniel Ricciardo discusses the ‘panic’ he felt after learning of McLaren axe Max Verstappen corrects Helmut Marko’s ‘absurd’ claim … [Read more...] about Watch: Oscar Piastri’s first day: McLaren Artura and a podium tease from Zak Brown

Qualifying didn’t go the way we wanted it. We just kept digging. That was the key. The track was the hottest that we have had all year long. We knew it was going to be tricky. We navigated down it and we did what we had to do.” Before picking up the victory over Kalitta, Brown faced down Clay Millican, Brittany Force, and Pat Dakin, and thus remains on top of the points with Kalitta in second. Brown trying not to think of a third title
Listen to this article Racers have to be tough to win championships. Putting together a season-long accumulation of pole positions, victories and high points-producing finishes is not for the weak. But that doesn’t mean a champion can’t be imbued with kindness, generosity of spirit and a love of life. Take, for instance, Antron Brown, who has a heady lead in NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship. The reigning Top Fuel champion scored four wins in the regular 18-race season this year, and headed the points going into the Countdown (which is basically the NHRA’s equivalent of NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup). Remarkably, with four of these six playoff races now done, Brown has added three more victories. He beat his current closest opponent, Doug Kalitta, at the first Countdown race at Charlotte, then took his 60th career NHRA win (16 of which were scored on Pro Stock Motorcycles) in the cold of Reading, PA. two weeks later. Last weekend, the … [Read more...] about Brown trying not to think of a third title

F1 embraces the return of Ford – but is its major US rival welcome too? · RaceFans
Michael Andretti’s hopes of gaining a place on the Formula 1 grid appear to have been boosted twice in the past 24 hours. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free First the FIA formally opened its process for new teams to apply to compete in the world championship. But by no means does this guarantee an application from Andretti will be accepted. Indeed, following pushback from F1 and most of the existing teams who don’t want to share the sport’s spoils with new entrants, the FIA made it clear that even if it approves a bid the commercial arm of the sport can block it. “Existing F1 teams will be given priority over new applicants,” it stated. “In the event that no applicant is considered suitable by the FIA and/or by the F1 commercial rights holder, no new F1 team(s) will be selected.” But at least the wheels are turning. Merely getting the FIA to consider its case will be an achievement for Andretti, as new entries are only admitted to F1 periodically. Sebastian Vettel on ‘nonsense’ FIA clampdown, wants drivers to show ‘courage’ against it
Sebastian Vettel has branded new FIA regulations limiting drivers’ right to freedom of speech on the grid as “nonsense”, and he hopes to see his former colleagues show “courage” against the governing body. Vettel and Lewis Hamilton in particular have been two of the key voices in speaking out for causes important to them in a public forum, with both calling for equality for the LGBTQ+ community when Formula 1 has visited countries where their rights are limited, sporting rainbow-coloured helmets in solidarity. Vettel was also among the first to join Hamilton in ‘taking the knee’ before races in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, with the former Ferrari and Red Bull driver also wearing different shirts to point to climate change issues around the world. But with the four-time World Champion having retired, he will not have the opportunity to rail against the new rule brought in by the governing body which prohibits drivers making statements of a political or religious … [Read more...] about Sebastian Vettel on ‘nonsense’ FIA clampdown, wants drivers to show ‘courage’ against it
