The XC90 has always led the charge when it comes to classy, seven-seater cars. Luxurious yet understated, it’s a solid contender against the likes of the Land Rover Discovery and BMW X5. It’s also packing as much safety technology as you’ll find on a car on sale today, which makes it a key family car-segment option. We’re testing it here in diesel-powered D5 set-up, which is in fact the lowest-powered option in the range – sitting underneath a turbo petrol and a twin-engine plug-in hybrid. What’s new? There’s plenty going on inside the new XC90. The amount of safety system fitted to it is impressive, with features such as the city safety pack – which includes pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection systems – combining with pilot assist and adaptive cruise control to … [Read more...] about UK Drive: Volvo’s XC90 D5 R-Design remains a classy all-rounder
Classy interior design
Of all the vehicles Audi offers right now, and they offer a lot, the A5 Coupe is quite possibly my favorite, I would choose it over the TT and the R8 although admittedly the latter would be a tough call. The A5 was designed by famed auto designer Walter De Silva, former Head of Design of the VW group, it happens to be his favorite too. The collective opinion (among the motoring hack fraternity) is that the A5 looks plain and yes they are correct, but it’s that simplicity that makes it work so well. It is that simplicity that served the A5 graciously for 9 years and it only required a plethora of periodic facelifts and updates in between. After 9 years Audi made ready an all new, second generation for 2016. The design changes are mildly evolutionary with the key difference being that the A5 is now built on a larger and lighter platform, that in turn means the A5 is now slightly longer and wider than the first generation. The interior is impeccably well designed, presented and … [Read more...] about Audi A5 Has Always Been Classy, Now It’s Effortlessly Classy
Cars rule. Crossovers, well, they drool. Especially now, thanks to the ongoing crossover obsession among consumers. All sorts of cars can be had at good prices, and the smaller the car – the bigger the deal. So, if you’re shopping for a good deal on a solid set of wheels, bust out of the follower mentality and take a serious look at the cars on this list. Heck, you might even think about plunking down some cash on a minivan and make your life easier for a change. Point is, gas prices will go up, and cars are safe, fun, practical, and more efficient than a similarly sized SUV. Just remember three of the most important points that help most deals come together: A vehicle worthy of recommendation Stacks and stacks of incentive cash or a low interest rate A dealership eager to negotiate because they have too many models on the lot Ultimately, the bottom line is this: when too many cars sit unsold, there is not enough space on dealer lots to park new inventory. … [Read more...] about Deal Hunters: These cars (and minivan) might be your best chance at a great deal right now
Volvo is clearly on a roll, producing one of the best large SUVs (XC90) and now clinching the European Car of the Year title with the small XC40. We’re trying the mid-size XC60 to see whether its Swedish style is more than skin deep. Our car: Volvo XC60 D5 PowerPulse AWD R-design List price when new: £43,505 Price as tested: £53,580 Official fuel economy: 54.1mpg (EU Combined) Read more long-term tests June 5th, 2018 Fuel consumption this week: 38.7mpg For those who have been watching The Bridge unravel on BBC2, Sweden appears a rather dangerous place. The Nordic Noir police drama has a high body count and is eerily dark – like Midsummer Murders by moonlight. However, having driven across Scandinavia many times, I know it is remarkably safe. People adhere to the speed limits and nobody uses a mobile phone behind the wheel. There’s probably a campaign to fit wandering elks with high visibility vests. We’ve already … [Read more...] about Volvo XC60 – long-term test: the ultimate middle-class car?
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), widely known as the split personality disorder, is a phenomenon characterized by the regular appearance of two or more clearly distinct and often contrasting personalities in the same person. DID is a much controversial psychiatric disorder that has been the topic of several intensive research works. However, there’s nothing – absolutely nothing – in the world of cars that can draw a better parallel to this weird syndrome than the latest-gen BMW 530d M Sport. Basically, the 530d M Sport can be found slotted between the vanilla 5’ers (read: 520d, 530i) and the totally utterly bonkers M5. Of course, this one gets some traits from both the ends and hence, offers two personality traits. Our BMW 530d M Sport test drive review here lists out all that there’s to know about this very interesting car. Design & Styling The design and styling of the latest-gen BMW 5-series sedan is all about some bold creases, taut … [Read more...] about BMW 530d M Sport Review: Fast Five!
Tweet TweetWhether you went to Frankfurt Motor Show this year or not, you should know that Ferrari’s stand was one of the most exquisite around. After all, it was kind of obvious that its cars will be among the main attractions of the show due to the personalization of the new California T. It has two new models now, and one of them is incredibly close to being one of the most beautiful cars of Ferrari. Not only does it have a marvelous black color with a strong gloss, but it is also associated with the famous 1957 Ferrari 250 TR. And we all know how popular that car was in the Buenos Aires race some years ago. So both the exterior and the interior were designed to look classy and irresistible. The bodywork contains velvet parts that offer the new model of California T a unique contrast of colors. The wheels contain the same red shade as well, and so does the interior. However, it consists of both black leather and extensive Rosso Cremisi at the same time. Again, the contrast … [Read more...] about California T Special Gets an Irresistible Design Debuting at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show

Click to enlargeWe’ve seen the official design sketches of the new Hyundai Santa Fe, which gives us a pretty good idea of how the fourth-generation SUV will look like when it’s unveiled later this month. Here are some spyshots that give us a glimpse of the big Hyundai’s interior for the first time. It looks like the little Kona wasn’t just the design inspiration for the new Santa Fe’s exterior, but the interior as well. Hyundai’s new compact crossover doesn’t just look funky; it carries Hyundai’s fresh family SUV look that will be repeated in the new Santa Fe, albeit in a more mature and classy way.The pic above shows a centre console dominated by a floating central screen for the infotainment system, a look that’s rather common these days. Below the touchscreen, which has hard buttons and dials sandwiching it, are slim pill-shaped air con vents like in the Kona, but with sharp edges (Mazda CX-5?). The side AC vents are also in the … [Read more...] about SPIED: First look at new Hyundai Santa Fe’s interior
The MPV segment is under attack; SUV sales are skyrocketing and making a dent in the people carrier class. But MPVs remain the more practical option, offering better value for money in more functional packages. Some can even be both handsome and fun to drive, meaning there’s still life in the segment yet. Below, we run through 10 of the best to demonstrate this. 1. Volkswagen SharanThe Sharan is not the most nimble in its class; that title goes to the Ford Galaxy, which remains the MPV benchmark. However, buyers will love the Sharan’s better-quality feel, its ease of use and the badge kudos it holds – helped by a familiar design language that makes the Sharan look a bit like an oversized Golf.A wise optional specification is DCC adaptive chassis control, which offers a wider breadth of talents and, when set to Comfort, makes the car the best-riding in its class. The Sharan remains a serious contender in the seven-seat MPV market and a smart buy … [Read more...] about Top 10 best seven-seat MPVs 2018
