In an era when Formula 1 as a whole became more professional, Senna is often credited with changing the way drivers approach a race weekend, taking mental and physical preparation to a new level. Senna’s fierce McLaren rivalry with Alain Prost was a big driving force in that change of attitude. Going up against a driver who proved to be his match, Senna understood it was necessary to pull out all the stops in order to find an edge over the Frenchman. For Senna, one of those edges was developing a close relationship with McLaren’s fresh-faced new physiotherapist Josef Leberer. Leberer arrived in F1 at the start of the 1988 season, replacing his fellow Austrian mentor professor Willi Dungl. As a 29-year-old physio Leberer immediately ended up at the powerhouse McLaren-Honda team of Ron Dennis. That season Senna and Prost won all but one race at the height of the team’s dominance, with the spectacular McLaren MP4/4. The squad said agreeing personal terms with both drivers signalled its intention to lead from the front by working with “two of the most talented and fast” drivers in the WRC. It also believes that by securing the services of Neuville – who scored Hyundai’s first WRC win at Rallye Deutschland in 2014 – and Tanak that it can “efficiently execute the development” of its new Rally1 car for 2022. The giant rear fin has no aero function, but it does look fantastic. The F12berlinetta is an exciting car in its own right, but Ferrari made it even more special with the one-off F12 TRS taking inspiration from the 1957 250 Testa Rossa. Maranello’s berlinetta has once again served as the donor car for a special retro build, only this time it represents the work of an Italian coachbuilder. Touring Superleggera has reimagined the V12-powered grand tourer with a design that harkens back to the glory days of coachbuilding with influences from 1930 race cars. The makers of the stunning Mini Superleggera concept and the lesser-known Artega Scalo Superelletra are back with a rebodied F12berlinetta with carbon fiber panels to shave off nearly 150 kilograms (331 pounds) over the donor car. The massive central fin extending towards the end of the car doesn’t actually serve an aerodynamic purpose as it’s there only to evoke the spirit of sleek streamliners of the 1930s. Under a gloomy sky, and with 40 percent chance of rain around the 8pm mark, the Genesys 300 got underway 35mins early as IndyCar attempted to squeeze it into the TV window – and without pushing back the first race of this double-header. With qualifying having been canceled due to rain delaying practice, championship points ensured Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing-Honda led the field to the green, ahead of Team Penske-Chevrolet’s Will Power, Scott Dixon (Ganassi), Colton Herta (Andretti Autosport-Honda), Simon Pagenaud (Penske) and Jack Harvey (Meyer Shank Racing). Palou made a superb start allowing Dixon to follow him through into second ahead of Power, and on Lap 3 Dixon took Palou around the outside of the front straight kink to take the lead. Harvey had displaced Pagenaud for fifth, while AJ Foyt Racing-Chevy’s Sebastien Bourdais ran second ahead of the Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevy of Rinus VeeKay, Takuma Sato of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing-Honda, and Marcus Ericsson’s … [Read more...] about Texas IndyCar: Dixon dominates, McLaughlin stars to score NZ 1-2
Elon Musk is always up to something. Let's see if we can figure some things out. When Tesla CEO Elon Musk Tweeted about the upcoming Tesla Semi yesterday, he said the truck would be “seriously next level.” We, of course, want to know what that means. We can’t yet hack into Musk’s brain to figure that out, but we can try to make some educated guesses, and collect everything we know so far into one post. Here goes. What we know for sure Previous official messages from Tesla indicate that the semi will be a “ heavy-duty truck ” and Musk has said that the semi will necessarily need to have a pack over 100 kilowatt hours (kWh). We also know that Jerome Guillen is in charge of the Tesla semi program. Guillen previously was a Model S Program Director and worked at Daimler on the team that developed the Freightliner Cascadia. The closest we’ve come to an explanation about what the semi will do is this line from the not-so-secret Master plan part 2 : “We believe the Tesla … [Read more...] about Could Tesla Semi Have 680 kWh, 500-mile range?
