Chrysler unveiled the 2023 300C as its last HEMI-powered model in history in September last year. The sedan with a 6.4-liter V8 was limited to just 2,000 units and all of them were sold out within 12 hours after the order books were opened. It turns out there could be one last chance to buy a V8-powered Chrysler for those who missed the earlier opportunity. Based on information from dealership documents, MopartInsiders reports the brand will also launch a more affordable 300S version of the sedan for the 2023 model year. It is supposed to receive Chrysler ’s 5.7-liter V8 mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and sending power to the rear wheels. This less powerful model can be also equipped pretty nicely with features such as heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, advanced driving assist systems, and others. Ex-employee charged in Gallery Furniture arson case
From the first days of the official inquiry into the May 21 fire at Gallery Furniture, investigators focused on employees and particularly ex-employees as the likeliest cause of a four-alarm inferno that gutted a huge warehouse, burned up its contents, damaged furniture in a nearby showroom and caused losses upward of $15 million. These suspicions apparently panned out Tuesday when Robert Caroll Gillham , a longtime former Gallery salesman, was charged with first-degree arson. It was not necessary to arrest the 66-year-old Gillham because he was already in Montgomery County Jail on unrelated charges. “This was not just a good job — this was a great job in solving the fire,” said Houston Fire Department Chief Phil Boriskie . “Large fires are very difficult to solve because, quite frankly, they burn up a lot of evidence.” Officials would not discuss details of the investigation or say precisely when they began to look closely at Gillham. It is clear that his name came up … [Read more...] about Ex-employee charged in Gallery Furniture arson case
Houston artist David Adickes behind massive JFK bust erected near IAH
David Adickes , a resident Houston artist best known for his giant sculptures around the city, such as the iconic "Mount Rush Hour," featuring the U.S. presidents, and the Instagrammable "We Love Houston" sign , has created a new work that pays tribute to one of our nation's most beloved presidents. The 95-year-old sculptor recently created a 5-ton bust of the late President John F. Kennedy which will soon be christened near the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The hollow statue of the nation's 35th president , located at 14550 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in East Aldine, will serve as a "welcome mat" for travelers arriving to the area. Carlos Silva, chairman of the East Aldine Management District and its East Aldine Arts Coalition—which funded the artwork—shared footage of cranes lifting the statue's parts into place on Tuesday. "Bringing public art to East Aldine has become my passion over the past few years and today was quite the blessing," Silva wrote in a … [Read more...] about Houston artist David Adickes behind massive JFK bust erected near IAH
Decade-Old Aston Martin Vanquish Nearly Hits Top Speed On Autobahn
Born initially as the Project AM310 Concept in 2012, the second-generation Aston Martin Vanquish was a stunner and a performer. Its naturally aspirated engine under the hood progressed to become more powerful with each version, though the first iteration was already a force to be reckoned with. The exterior styling of the Vanquish was an evolution of the DBS with many styling cues, such as the elongated side strakes, being inspired by the One-77. The boot lid had an integrated rear spoiler. The car has an exposed carbon fiber side skirt, a peek at its all-carbon fiber body. The Vanquish used an upgraded version of the 5.9-liter AM11 V12 engine called the AM28. Toyota Land Cruiser 70 To Stick Around Despite Being Nearly 40 Years Old
Volkswagen sold the original Beetle for 65 years (1938-2003), and while the Land Cruiser 70 is not that old, it's getting up there in age. Having been introduced in 1984, the go-anywhere SUV will celebrate its 40 th anniversary next year and will remain on sale in the foreseeable future. The disclosure was made by the company's VP of Sales and Marketing in Australia. Sean Hanley told CarSales "there's no departure of our product plan on 70 Series." There are even talks of giving the venerable off-roader a hybrid powertrain, which would be practically unheard of in the automotive industry – to electrify a 40-year-old vehicle. While the current Land Cruiser 70 uses a 4.5-liter turbodiesel V8 engine, there are rumors of a four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain. Hanley didn't rule out a downsized powertrain, saying customers would accept it, much like they did for the Land Cruiser 300 and its lack of V8 engines. 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 29 Photos … [Read more...] about Toyota Land Cruiser 70 To Stick Around Despite Being Nearly 40 Years Old
New Land Rover Defender 130 Has Zero Problems Towing 7,300 LBS Trailer
The largest production Land Rover Defender in history made its debut in May last year with up to eight seats but no available V8 power. The Defender 130 is a multi-purpose machine that can easily transport all your family with a lot of stuff in the cargo area – and even take you to some off-roading. As it turns out, the new Defender is also pretty good for towing. A new video from the TFLnow channel on YouTube shows us a white Defender 130 with a big Aluma trailer attached at the back. The trailer, in turn, is loaded with a four-door Ford Bronco First Edition and the total weight of the setup is about 7,300 pounds (3,311 kilograms). Toyota Crowned Best-Selling Automaker In 2022 With Nearly 10.5 Million Cars
Despite supply bottlenecks that hampered production and consequently impacted sales, Toyota managed to defend its title as the best-selling car manufacturer in 2022. The final numbers are in, showing the Japanese automaker shipped 10,483,024 vehicles to customers from all over the world. The total – which is down by 0.1 percent compared to 2021 – includes deliveries made by subsidiaries Daihatsu as well as commercial vehicle manufacturer Hino. Toyota ended the year way ahead of the Volkswagen Group as the German automotive conglomerate sold only 8.3 million cars in 2022, down by seven percent compared to the year before. It was VW's worst result in over a decade, caused by supply shortages generated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In addition, COVID-19 lockdowns in China also took their toll on sales as the world’s most populous country is one of VW’s main markets. 2023 Toyota Corolla 107 Photos … [Read more...] about Toyota Crowned Best-Selling Automaker In 2022 With Nearly 10.5 Million Cars
Haas: No plans to change F1 team model despite nearing budget cap
Listen to this article Haas announced in October that international payment company MoneyGram would be joining as its new title sponsor, providing a big financial boost to one of the smallest operations on the F1 grid. Haas F1 chief Steiner confirmed at the time of the announcement that the injection of cash would allow the team to reach the budget cap, putting it on a more level playing field with the other teams. But Haas is not looking to move away from the team model it has operated under since joining the grid in 2016, enjoying close technical ties to Ferrari and maximising the permissible transfer of technology as a customer team. Haas unveiled its new livery for 2023 via digital renders on Tuesday, and Steiner made clear at the end of last season that its focus had to be on car development, not changing the team’s overall approach. “We want to invest the money in the car,” Steiner told Motorsport.com in an interview. “At the moment, whatever we have … [Read more...] about Haas: No plans to change F1 team model despite nearing budget cap
