Here's a nightmare scenario for anyone who drives a low-riding sports car. Before diving into the story, the good (and surprising) news here is that nobody was injured. As for the bad news, the pictures should make that quite obvious. This unwelcome Chevrolet meetup took place on September 18 in Thornton, Colorado, a suburb of Denver to the north. Specifically, the crash happened at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and 168th Avenue, also known as Country Road 2. Crews from three municipalities responded, with the Thornton Fire Department sharing these spooky images of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck perched squarely atop a C8 Corvette . We call these photos spooky for two reasons. There's the obvious shock factor of having pickup truck wheels perched just outside the Corvette's cockpit. You can bet its occupant (or occupants, we don't know how many people were inside the 'Vette) had a moment of terror as the Silverado came to rest on the windshield. The second … [Read more...] about Chevy Silverado Crushes C8 Corvette In Crazy Crash, Everyone Walks Away

Goodyear Debuts New Wrangler Boulder MT Tire For “Bold” Off-Roading
Goodyear's family of Wrangler all-terrain tires has a new addition, and if the appearance is any indication, it's not taking any prisoners. This is the new Wrangler Boulder MT, featuring an aggressive tread pattern and three-ply Duraply Technology to help protect the sidewalls whether traversing rocky terrain or muddy trails. What is Duraply Technology? Goodyear doesn't offer details other than to say it adds protection to both the sidewalls and the tread. Speaking of which, the tread utilizes large blocks with wide, deep grooves to help in conditions such as mud and sand. This also helps prevent stones from getting wedged into the tread pattern. Goodyear says its new mud terrain tire is aimed at off-road adventurers looking to tackle extreme terrain, and it certainly looks the part. "Bold off-road adventures require a tire that's tough enough to withstand rugged terrain, without sacrificing handling or performance," said Michiel Kramer, director of product … [Read more...] about Goodyear Debuts New Wrangler Boulder MT Tire For “Bold” Off-Roading
Nissan Leaf To Be Recalled For Unintended Acceleration, Possible Power Loss
The all-electric Nissan Leaf hatchback will be recalled by the Japanese car manufacturer because it could suddenly accelerate after exiting cruise control, as well as for a short circuit that can cause the electric motors to stop while driving, a spokesperson told Bloomberg . It’s unclear how many Leaf units sold in the United States are affected by the recall, as Nissan ’s spokesperson didn’t mention this detail and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hasn’t updated the recall lists for the Leaf on its official website. With this being said, the action is part of a huge campaign that includes 1.38 million vehicles sold in the US, Europe, and Japan, including internal combustion engine models such as the Note, Kicks, Serena, and Note Aura. Fire Risk For 3.3 Million Hyundai, Kia Models Leads To Massive Recall
Hyundai Motor Group has the unfortunate distinction of launching one of the largest automotive recalls this year. 25 models from Hyundai and Kia totaling 3,372,743 vehicles are at risk for fire caused by potential problems with electronic modules. The fire could occur at any time, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off. As such, the automakers advise owners to park outside until the issue can be addressed. Presently, the recall doesn't extend beyond 2015 model-year vehicles, save for a few exceptions from Kia . Here's a complete list of all models from Hyundai and Kia included in the recall: Make/Model Model Year Number Recalled Hyundai Accent 2012-2015 240,589 Hyundai Azera 2012-2015 29,232 Hyundai Elantra 2011-2015 777,145 Hyundai Elantra Coupe 2013-2015 22,481 Hyundai Equus 2014-2015 6,013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2011-2015 51,789 Hyundai Santa Fe 2013-2015 45,322 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport … [Read more...] about Fire Risk For 3.3 Million Hyundai, Kia Models Leads To Massive Recall
Alex Albon responds to Christian Horner saying he was ‘too nice’ for Red Bull seat
Alex Albon can see where Christian Horner is coming from by once saying he was almost “too nice” to race for Red Bull, Albon suggesting that was a symptom of youth. Albon’s rise was a meteoric one in the Red Bull ranks, as just half a season after his recall to the programme to join Toro Rosso for 2019, he was sent to the main Red Bull team to partner Max Verstappen following the struggles of Pierre Gasly. By the end of the 2020 campaign Albon though found himself dropped from the second Red Bull seat after similar difficulties against Verstappen, spending 2021 as Red Bull’s reserve driver before joining Williams for the following season, where he has now established himself as one of the hottest prospects on the grid. Alex Albon felt Red Bull call came too early Speaking to Sky F1, their pit-lane reporter Ted Kravitz told Albon that when news came through of his Red Bull promotion back in 2019, he had his doubts over whether it was the right move at the time. Albon said he … [Read more...] about Alex Albon responds to Christian Horner saying he was ‘too nice’ for Red Bull seat
Watch 1,000-HP Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Drag Race Stock Corvette Z06
A new video from Hennessey Performance showcases its new HPE1000 upgrade for the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. The super sedan demonstrates its performance prowess against a stock Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in a series of drag races. The Corvette Z06 is no slouch with its naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 engine. The powertrain produces 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, propelling the mid-engine supercar to 60 miles per hour in 2.6 seconds. Those are impressive numbers, but they are diminished by Hennessey’s H1000 upgrade package to the Cadillac . Gallery: Hennessey H1000 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing 2 Photos The CT5-V Blackwing typically tiptoes just under the Z06. The sedan’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine makes 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque from the factory, but the tuner’s upgrade kit cranks the car’s output to 1,000 hp and 966 lb-ft of twist. It should come as no surprise the Corvette lost both races. The Cadillac … [Read more...] about Watch 1,000-HP Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Drag Race Stock Corvette Z06
Motorsport’s last low-hanging fruit
It's the golden rule of endurance racing: spend as little time in the pits as possible. A driver can pound around chasing tenths of a second to set a perfect lap, but if they get it wrong and damage the car, sitting stationary in the garage undoes any potential gains. It seems odd, then, that within motorsport driver conditioning is arguably the most neglected area of research. Manufacturers painstakingly develop their cars, but that is to embark on a path of diminishing returns if the driver climbs aboard for their third stint and is too tired to perform at their best. The much less expensive route is to focus on the person behind the wheel and ensure they can operate at their peak for much longer - make them consistently faster and less error prone. It's a low-hanging fruit within racing that is yet to be picked. That's why the former senior performance coach at world-renowned Hintsa Performance, Dean Fouache, had his interests piqued by the temperature regulating … [Read more...] about Motorsport’s last low-hanging fruit
Singapore GP – The thin line between success and failure
Formula 1’s first night race in Singapore has been a massive success. In a season of great Grands Prix, this was another classic race. Once again it turned on a safety car and showed the importance of race strategy in determining the outcome. And as far as the championship is concerned it showed that the team which makes the fewest mistakes will win the title. Ferrari had the pace to get a 1-2 finish here and before Nelson Piquet’s accident triggered a safety car on lap 16, it looked very much as though Kimi Raikkonen would jump Lewis Hamilton in the pit stop and back his team mate Massa up to the finish. The Ferrari was half a second a lap faster than the McLaren in the opening stint and Lewis was looking down the barrel of a whooping from Ferrari. Without the pit stop foul-up for Massa, Lewis would have left here three points behind the Brazilian with three races to go. But the safety car and the subsequent dash for the pits changed everything. It wrecked Kubica’s race … [Read more...] about Singapore GP – The thin line between success and failure
Phoney war between drivers during calm before storm in Abu Dhabi
Before we got here this week Yas Marina Circuit was hit by a powerful sandstorm, which bent the trees backwards and dumped tonnes of sand on the track. This being Abu Dhabi they have a machine for sucking up the sand, so the racing will not be affected. I've been at plenty of championship showdowns over the years. There is nothing like being here to look the contenders in the eye and see how they are coping with the pressure. There have been some stormy ones, I recall Jerez 1997 for example and ten years later the acrimony at McLaren in the final race. But today we had a phoney war between the contenders in the press conference. Perhaps it is because this is not a duel for the title, but a battle between four contenders (albeit one with a slim chance) it seems to diffuse the tension. None of the drivers was giving anything away. Webber was subdued, not about to hand any more hand grenade quotes to journalists. Vettel was relaxed and bouncy, he has nothing to lose and he's … [Read more...] about Phoney war between drivers during calm before storm in Abu Dhabi
