Behrends has been the artist behind the scenes, creating the sterling silver likeness of every victor of ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ since Arie Luyendyk in 1990, which is blazoned upon the famed Borg-Warner Trophy. Newgarden represents the 34th image for Behrends, who has hosted every winner since 2015 for a sitting to carve the final details. “Before that, all I had was 15-20 minutes with them the morning after the race to take photographs and then that's the last time I saw them until the next year,” Behrends told Motorsport.com. “For them to come up and spend the day and we sit for two or three hours in the studio working on the clay model, we get to talk and get to know them a little bit. That really enriches the experience for me, and I think makes for a better work. It's really very valuable for me.” Josef Newgarden's Borg Warner bust in the making Photo by: Scott LePage However, this visit was slightly different as Behrends’ granddaughters, who are … [Read more...] about Newgarden cherishes “very special” trek to Borg-Warner sculpturer’s shop

Argentina race could still be added to 2024 IndyCar schedule
Argentina has been under heavy consideration to host IndyCar’s first race outside of North America since Sao Paulo in 2013. Conversations and interest increased after Ricardo Juncos, the Argentine IndyCar team owner, pulled off demonstration runs last November at Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo in Santiago del Estero and Autodromo Oscar y Juan Galvez in Buenos Aires. Canapino finished his maiden 2023 IndyCar campaign as runner-up for Rookie of the Year in the #78 Juncos Hollinger Racing entry. Considering the schedule has already been revealed with 17 points race and a season finale on the Streets of Nashville on 15 September, the addition of Argentina after the season concludes would likely mean a non-points event. It would be the second non-points event … [Read more...] about Argentina race could still be added to 2024 IndyCar schedule
Watch 1,000-HP Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Drag Race Stock Corvette Z06
A new video from Hennessey Performance showcases its new HPE1000 upgrade for the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. The super sedan demonstrates its performance prowess against a stock Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in a series of drag races. The Corvette Z06 is no slouch with its naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 engine. The powertrain produces 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, propelling the mid-engine supercar to 60 miles per hour in 2.6 seconds. Those are impressive numbers, but they are diminished by Hennessey’s H1000 upgrade package to the Cadillac . Gallery: Hennessey H1000 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing 2 Photos The CT5-V Blackwing typically tiptoes just under the Z06. The sedan’s supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine makes 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque from the factory, but the tuner’s upgrade kit cranks the car’s output to 1,000 hp and 966 lb-ft of twist. It should come as no surprise the Corvette lost both races. The Cadillac … [Read more...] about Watch 1,000-HP Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Drag Race Stock Corvette Z06
Team bosses respond to fresh Andretti rumours as new team reports intensify
Formula 1 bosses have reiterated that they are waiting for new information after reports that Andretti are close to being given the green light from the FIA. The sport’s governing body’s Expression of Interest process has turned into quite a lengthy one with still no information as to who exactly has applied and who has passed the test. That leaves only rumours and a strong one in the F1 paddock is that Andretti will be given the nod by the FIA before embarking on their quest to convince the teams. F1 teams in the dark about Andretti FIA bid The Expression of Interest process is just the first step in what Andretti and General Motors hope will end with their cars on the grid as to when or if that will happen remains undecided. The FIA have always been the more open to teams joining with the current Concorde Agreement allowing a maximum of 12 constructors but Formula One Management and the existing teams have shown a hesitancy, most unwilling to risk diluting their own … [Read more...] about Team bosses respond to fresh Andretti rumours as new team reports intensify
The blame game – 2005 United States GP at Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS, June 21, 2005 – Let’s pass blame around for this debacle at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in what was intended to be the sixth annual US Grand Prix here. It turned out to be a six-car show with only Michael Schumacher’s intimidation of teammate Rubens Barrichello while exiting the pits from his second stop to excite any one of the remaining fans at the Brickyard. It’s estimated the Speedway had 130,000 on the grounds before 1PM EST but they began filing out shortly after the “start." This “race” was a yawner after all 14 Michelin-shod drivers retired before the official start, completing only their formation lap. All, including polesitter Jarno Trulli went immediately to their garages. Michelin vs Bridgestone Start the blame game with Michelin, who did not fully study the changes to the road-oval circuit after resurfacing and subsequent diamond grooving between the 2004 Brickyard 400 and the Indianapolis 500. In pre-May tire tests, Firestone engineers … [Read more...] about The blame game – 2005 United States GP at Indianapolis
Reflections on the championship – A Fan’s View
As usual we have had many great comments and some interesting points of view put forward about the outcome of today's championship. I wanted to give the fans a voice tonight and so I've picked out this post from JM Randle, which expresses his view on this epic season and gives a good assessment of our new world champion. "With an hour or two having passed since the race finished, first and foremost we have to congratulate Sebastian Vettel – a combination of a truly awesome racer, able to extract the maximum from his car over both one lap and a race distance, and the magnificent Red Bull RB6, the class of the field for almost the entire season and suitably rewarded with the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championship titles. With that said, I don’t know if I was alone (probably was!) in feeling slightly deflated by the way the final race of this epic season panned out – the track and tyre degredation (or lack thereof!) played a huge role in the final result, … [Read more...] about Reflections on the championship – A Fan’s View
Lewis Hamilton teases Sergio Perez after non-answer on Max Verstappen reprimands
Lewis Hamilton decided to have a bit of fun with Sergio Perez after he refused to be drawn on whether he agreed with Max Verstappen only being reprimanded for his Singapore impeding incidents. Verstappen was summoned by the stewards after Singapore Grand Prix qualifying over three instances of impeding, including what appeared to be a slam dunk with Yuki Tsunado as well as one in the pit lane where the Red Bull driver remained stationary for several seconds at the exit as the light went green. The stewards only saw fit to hand out a pair of reprimands plus a €5000 fine for Red Bull, despite a precedent seemingly having been set earlier in the season of three-place grid penalties in response to impeding incidents. Lewis Hamilton teases Sergio Perez who has “nothing to say” During the pre-Japanese Grand Prix press conference, several drivers were asked for their take on the Verstappen verdicts, and whether they were concerned over the consistency of decision making from the … [Read more...] about Lewis Hamilton teases Sergio Perez after non-answer on Max Verstappen reprimands

Verstappen: “You’re not a real fan” if you don’t appreciate Red Bull F1 dominance
Verstappen's and Red Bull's run of 10 consecutive victories ended in Singapore, when the team had an off weekend, and the Dutchman could finish only fifth. Prior to Carlos Sainz's victory there had been a lot of talk about Verstappen's run of success being bad for the sport and TV viewership, with Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei also expressing such sentiments. Asked by Motorsport.com in Suzuka if he could see a bigger picture of Sainz's win being good for F1, Verstappen made it clear that he didn't agree. "Honestly, I have zero interest in that," he said. "For me, it was just we got beaten, in a very clear way. I don't think about what is good for F1. "I don't think it's necessarily bad what was happening to F1, because we were just better than everyone else. And if people can't appreciate that, then you're not a real fan. But yeah, that's how it goes. "That's why I was also super relaxed about it because we didn't perform. Other people did a better job than us, then of … [Read more...] about Verstappen: “You’re not a real fan” if you don’t appreciate Red Bull F1 dominance
