Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc cut a chipper figure after practice at Albert Park, feeling the Scuderia had made a clear step in the right direction on Friday. While Leclerc finished second on the timesheets in second practice in Australia, it was a largely unrepresentative FP2 session as rain arrived to compromise on-track running. Leclerc had finished the first practice session in fifth, half a second behind the pace-setter Max Verstappen, and just over a tenth clear of Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz. Despite the restricted running, which wasn’t helped by a red flag during FP1 due to circuit GPS data failing, Leclerc felt Ferrari had made a step forward with the time put in on Friday after evaluating different setup options. Charles Leclerc: It was our most positive practice of the season “Quite a bit, I think we did quite a lot of scans in terms of setup direction again,” he said, when asked about his workload on Friday. “I feel like the feeling is a bit better than the other … [Read more...] about Charles Leclerc hails progress made at Ferrari after ‘most positive’ practice of 2023

Charles Leclerc is adamant: We don’t think the title is out of reach
Despite falling 38 points behind Max Verstappen after two races, Charles Leclerc is adamant there’s still plenty of time for Ferrari to fight back and challenge for the championship titles. Although Ferrari declared in the build-up to the new season that the SF-23 would be “unprecedented in terms of speed”, it’s been anything but. In fact so far neither driver has even managed to reach the podium, never mind win a race. With just 26 points on the board, and nursing a tyre-eating car, Ferrari are down in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship with Carlos Sainz equalling that position in the Drivers’ standings. As for Leclerc, he’s only P8. The Monégasque driver retired from the opening race of the season in Bahrain when his car shut down, that leading to a grid penalty at the following race in Saudi Arabia as the team fitted his third Control Electronics unit of the season. Lining up 12th on the grid he could only recover as far as P7, yet another indication that the … [Read more...] about Charles Leclerc is adamant: We don’t think the title is out of reach
Affidavit: Man asked girl to ‘play with his little toy’
A man has been arrested for inappropriately touching a girl, according to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office. Jorge Alberto Charles, 30, was served with arrest warrants on March 15 charging him with two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact. On June 1, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation regarding a sexual offense against a child. The case was initially reported to the Laredo Police Department on May 25, 2021. A 9-year-old girl cried out that a man identified as Charles had touched her private parts, according to court documents. Sheriff’s officials took over the case after they discovered that the case happened in their jurisdiction. The child would undergo a forensic interview. The child recalled that while living at a residence in Los Centenarios off of U.S. 59, Charles touched her private part and her chest area one time when she was about five or six years old. The sexual contact was over her clothing. She recalled that during the … [Read more...] about Affidavit: Man asked girl to ‘play with his little toy’
Aus GP FP2: Fernando Alonso hits the front before the rain arrives in Melbourne
Fernando Alonso pipped Charles Leclerc to P1 in Friday’s FP2 running for the Australian Grand Prix but it was a session that saw just 20 minutes of dry action. With rain on the horizon there was a mad dash to get out of the pits with Lando Norris perhaps too keen as he had a tank-slapper as he exited the McLaren garage, the rear swinging out on him. One driver not heading out immediately was Logan Sargeant as his earlier electric problem meant Williams were still working on his FW45 when the pit lane light went green. As with FP1 it was Carlos Sainz who put in the opening gambit, a 1:20.3, before upping that as he put in the laps on the medium Pirellis. But his stay in P1 was short-lived with Alonso blitzing his time by eight-tenths of a second. In blustery conditions as the wind brought the rain ever closer, even the best were struggling with Lewis Hamilton flying across the grass and Verstappen doing the same a few minutes later at Turn 1. Verstappen: “It’s so sensitive, you … [Read more...] about Aus GP FP2: Fernando Alonso hits the front before the rain arrives in Melbourne
Trump indictment not expected to affect Wisconsin court race
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The indictment of former President Donald Trump will likely have little impact on the high stakes Wisconsin Supreme Court race to be decided next week, as Democrats try to flip majority control of the court with the fate of abortion access in the state on the line, those closely watching the contest said Friday. Trump has not been directly involved in the race, did not endorse anyone, and the Republican-backed candidate has tried to distance his connections with the former president and the GOP. Additionally, Trump's support among Republicans appears to be waning in the battleground state that he barely won in 2016 and then lost by a similar margin in 2020. “While this (indictment) may get the juice flowing with some of his supporters, some may have a head shake and shoulder shrug," said longtime Republican strategist and former state GOP party leader … [Read more...] about Trump indictment not expected to affect Wisconsin court race

Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The Aston Martin driver set the fastest time early in the session before rain began to fall around the 15 minute mark, which put a stop to any further improvements on the timing screen. Alonso’s 1’18.887 put him almost half a second quicker than Leclerc’s Ferrari. With clouds drifting over Albert Park threatening rain before the session began, the temperature had dropped significantly compared to the opening hour of practice as the second hour of running got underway. With a 40% risk of rain expected, there was a rush of cars onto the circuit as the green light appeared at the end of the pit lane, drivers dicing for track position over the first two sectors of the lap to secure a clear track to start their runs. Carlos Sainz Jnr won the race to start the first flying lap and he duly set the … [Read more...] about Alonso leads Leclerc as rain interrupts second practice · RaceFans

F1 2023 results: FP2 timings from Australian Grand Prix practice
Fernando Alonso set the fastest time in second practice of the Australian Grand Prix before rain hit the Melbourne circuit. With rain forecast, there was an unusual start to FP2 as all the teams took to the track early on the slicks, hoping to set a representative time for Sunday’s race. They got limited running in though with some spots of drizzle soon descending onto Albert Park which saw the drivers head back into the grid. There was a bit of mix and match soon after with the Ferrari drivers remerging on the softs while George Russell opted for the intermediates but soon all the drivers had swapped to the green-rimmed tyre. That meant Alonso’s time would stay quickest with Charles Leclerc 0.445 seconds behind. FP1 leader Max Verstappen finished third ahead of Russell and Carlos Sainz. Logan Sargeant had issues that kept him in the garage while hometown favourite Oscar Piastri finished P14. Ferrari customer teams running new ICEs in Australia, Mercedes change exhaust systems
Ferrari are not the only team running through parts early this season with all four customers cars taking new ICEs at the start of the Australian Grand Prix weekend. Last season Ferrari’s performance, as well as that of Haas and Alfa Romeo, was handicapped when the team was forced to turn down the engines due to reliability concerns. That, though, was expected to be resolved over the winter with the team insisting their reliability woes had been fixed. There was also speculation in the media that Ferrari would head into 2023 with an extra 30bhp, most of that regained through reliability fixes. Carlos Sainz declared during pre-season testing that the “engine is good, I have no doubts” while his new team boss Fred Vasseur said they’d done a “good job at the factory” and that he believed they were in a “good place”. As for this customers, Haas team boss Guenther Steiner said he was told by former Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto in December that the new Ferrari power unit will … [Read more...] about Ferrari customer teams running new ICEs in Australia, Mercedes change exhaust systems
