Gennep – The inaugural Hankook 24H COTA USA (10-12 November, 2017) can rightfully be referred to as a ‘finale grande’ to conclude what has been an action-packed season in the Creventic Series powered by Hankook. Open for GTs, touring cars and 24H Specials, the race at the Circuit Of The Americas in Austin, Texas, is the final round of Creventic’s new-for-2017 ‘Championship of the Continents’. It marks the first event for the Dutch agency to be held in the United States. It wears an attractive Como Blue exterior paint scheme and has received CFRP side sills, a unique rear fin a carbon fiber front splitter. A number of the assets from the famous street circuit will be handed over to The Bend by the South Australian government as part of its plans to offload the gear now the event has been axed . Motorsport.com understands a pedestrian bridge is the big ticket item headed to Tailem Bend, with ground works suggesting it will be placed at pit exit. Fencing has also been dropped in place to help create two new general admission spectator areas, one in the infield of the main straight and one on the outside of the back straight leading up to Turn 13. The infrastructure upgrades have been spotted by Supercars, GT and Carrera Cup teams who have been testing at the circuit recently. Work is expected to be completed by the time The Bend hosts Supercars next weekend. A spokesperson from The Bend declined to comment when approached by Motorsport.com. Mercedes AMG customer teams claimed a commanding 1-2-3-4 in the 2016 Nurburgring 24-Hour race at the infamous Nordschleife that saw the closest ever finish of all 44 editions so far, too. After 24 hours and a total of 134 laps around the 25km combination of Grand Prix circuit and Nordschleife the difference between first and second was a mere 5.7 seconds. However, it was not the small gap between Maro Engel in the #4 Black Falcon Mercedes AMG GT3 and Christian Hohenadel in the #29 HTP Motorsport sister car on the finish line that left people gasp in shock, but the last-lap dare-devil move Engel pulled to make his way past Hohenadel to claim P1 and, eventually, the overall victory, too. “It’s a pity for Christian to lose the win on the last lap,” said Engel.
