Details about the Porsche Cayman S Sport, also being referred to as the Cayman Clubsport, have surfaced today and the resume looks impressive. No official announcement has been made, but the car is expected to be a stripped-down, track ready, street-legal version of the Cayman S for buyers who want the most out of their mid-engined German sports car. According to Britain’s AutoCar, the S Sport will go on sale in the U.K. in October. No word on U.S. availability yet, but it is likely. No prices are known either, but it’s expected to cost about 4,000 pounds (US$5,588) over the Cayman S’ 44,000-pound (US$61,466) price. Porsche recently announced that the 2009 Cayman will cost $60,200 in the U.S., so a similar $5,600 premium for the S Sport is likely. Should it come to our shores, it would be significantly cheaper than the similar Porsche 911 GT3 RS. If tradition is adhered to, the S Sport will pursue significant weight savings rather than power upgrades. U.S.-Spec Alfa Romeo 4C to Weigh 220 Pounds More Than Euro-Spec
Automakers often complain about the difficulties in meeting wildly different European Union and U.S. crash test and fuel economy regulations, and they have good reason to – often times it leads to a compromise in a new car. The 2014 Alfa Romeo 4C is one car set to be affected by the varying regulations. Thanks to crash test standards, the U.S.-spec 2014 Alfa Romeo 4C will weigh 220 pounds more than the European version, pushing its curb weight north of 2000 pounds according to Automotive News Europe. The 2014 Alfa 4C is supposed to be a no-compromise lightweight sports car, built from nothing but aluminum and carbon fiber, but according to Fiat’s European product development head Mauro Pierallini in an interview with Automotive News Europe, that wasn’t enough to stop the U.S.-spec car from weighing more than the European version. While the Alfa Romeo 4C that goes on sale in Europe this month weighs in at 1973 pounds, the American version will weigh 2193 pounds when it … [Read more...] about U.S.-Spec Alfa Romeo 4C to Weigh 220 Pounds More Than Euro-Spec

The U.S.-spec 2018 Audi TT RS will make its debut next week at the 2017 New York auto show, the German automaker announced today. The sport coupe will go on sale shortly thereafter with a base price of $65,875 — a direct challenge to its corporate cousin, the Porsche 718 Cayman S, among others. Sending that power to all four wheels via the standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic equipped with a launch-control mode. It will come rolling on 19-inch wheels standard, though 20-inchers are … [Read more...] about U.S.-Spec 2018 Audi TT RS to Debut in New York, Cost $65,875
2017 Porsche 718 Cayman S (US‑Spec)
With the 2017 718 Cayman, Porsche is introducing the third generation of the mid-engine sports coupe. Like the 2017 718 Boxster, the 718 Cayman is powered by new turbocharged flat four-cylinder engines. Visually and technically, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are closer than ever before. The completely retuned chassis, larger brakes and the distinctive sound enhance agility as well as driving pleasure. Sharper styling and an uprated interior give the 718 Cayman a more striking and athletic appearance. For the first time, the 718 Cayman is now priced below the 718 Boxster – similar to the 911 Coupe and Cabriolet models. The 2017 718 Cayman ($53,900 plus $1,050 delivery processing and handling fee) and Cayman S ($66,300 plus $1,050 delivery, processing and handling fee) can be ordered now and will reach U.S. dealers in late November 2016. Porsche Cayman S Black Edition (2011) first pictures
Worried that Porsche's stripped-out Cayman R is a little too hardcore, but still want its power increase and don't want to pay extra for air-con? Then you want the latest special edition Porsche, the Cayman S Black Edition.Limited to 500 copies worldwide, the Black Edition features a range of minor tweaks beyond its dark paint, and top of the list is a tiny 9bhp increase to a Cayman R-matching 326bhp. The torque figure remains unchanged (at 273lb ft), but the 0-62mph time improves one-tenth to 5.1 secs, to sit neatly between the 5.2secs of the Cayman S and the 5.0secs of the Cayman R. Spec the optional PDK dual-clutch transmission and that'll drop to five seconds dead, and the extra-cost PDK Sport Chrono Package takes a further 0.2secs off the total. Top speed raises by a sarcasm-inducing 1mph, to 173mph for the manual, and 172mph for the PDK edition. Fuel consumption and CO2 figures are unaffected by the Porsche Cayman S Black Edition's engine tweaks.Boxster … [Read more...] about Porsche Cayman S Black Edition (2011) first pictures
Knife Cuts to the Chase, Stabs Our Long-Term Porsche Cayman S’s Floorboard
Operating the sort of test fleet we do, it is with fair regularity that we encounter the occasional cracked windshield, bent wheel rim, or chipped hood. If Michigan’s deteriorating infrastructure isn’t crumbling and subsequently being launched by other motorists at the fronts of our test cars, it’s blowing apart other folks’ tires, pieces of which are then launched at our test cars. (Our Cadillac CTS Vsport found this out the hard way when it took a chunk of radial to its face last year.) But even we were shocked—or maybe impressed, even—when we discovered an 8-inch serrated kitchen knife embedded a good four inches deep in our long-term Porsche Cayman S’s underbody.Road warrior Charley Ladd unsheathed the problem after stopping to investigate a strange scraping sound emanating from beneath our lovely red sports car. We’re not sure how long the knife had been forking the Porsche’s underside, but there it was, driven into a … [Read more...] about Knife Cuts to the Chase, Stabs Our Long-Term Porsche Cayman S’s Floorboard
Porsche Cayman S
A sign up ahead reads, "Worms 1000 meters." I know just how those people feel. We've been ravaging these European highways for about 19 hours and subsisting on a gas-station diet of vacuum-packed tomato sandwiches and a mysterious starch product called Crispers. Our supply of cookies is dangerously low, as are our vitamin E, riboflavin, and pantothenic acid. Should we really be doing 137 mph? Most press-introduction drives follow fastidiously planned routes. In this case, Porsche gave us a brief presentation, tossed us the keys at the factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany, and asked that we return in 36 hours-with the car. We went straight to a gas station and bought a book of maps. It had Europe, Iceland, and a few places in Turkey that we just might reach if we chose to give up sleep. Later, we figured out how to operate the Cayman's navigation system, so the map book went under the seat. For those just returning from the seasonal whale hunt, the Cayman S is the new hard-hat … [Read more...] about Porsche Cayman S

Second Fiddle Moves To First ChairIn the interest of full disclosure and a bit of bloodletting, allow me to admit that while I've always coveted the Porsche Boxster and its hard-hatted Cayman cousin, I've never quite warmed to them visually. They've always had a certain push-me, pull-you, can't-decide-which-way-they're-going aesthetic that's been tough to wrap my head around. Porsche achieved the same thing with the original 550 Spyder's overturned bathtub bodyshell that would come to inspire the Boxster, but somehow that classic's even more symmetrical nature works for me. Fast-forward to this third generation, and at least for this enthusiast, Porsche's manchild has well and truly come of age as a design. It's all there – a piercing stare thanks to squircle headlamps inspired by the 918 Spyder hypercar, newfound directional thrust afforded by a longer wheelbase and elongated greenhouse, and muscular rear haunches with a wider stance emphasized by larger side ductwork and snubbed … [Read more...] about 2014 Porsche Cayman S

Replacing the lead singer in an iconic rock band is a thankless task. Van Halen fans never fully embraced Sammy Hagar. Paul Rodgers’ recent stint as lead singer with Queen was okay, I guess, and Axl Rose is now screaming it out in front of AC/DC. All fantastic singers and more than worthy in their own right, but how to you replace David Lee Roth, Freddie Mercury and Brian Johnson?Enter Porsche’s 2017 reboot of its beloved mid-engine Boxster/Cayman.
