7 April 2018 • 2:52pm Hamilton takes five-place grid penalty for gearbox change Kimi Raikkonen was quickest for Ferrari under lights in Friday practice and again in FP3 2017 Bahrain GP winner Sebastian Vettel currently leads the drivers' championship after one round Auto update On Off 2:03PM Good afternoon and welcome! Who will take pole in Bahrain? It's damage limitation for Lewis Hamilton I'm afraid Yesterday's second practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix threw up a little surprise, with Ferrari topping the timesheets, both their cars quicker than both Mercedes cars. Not great news for Lewis Hamilton. Worse news for Hamilton, though, was that he takes a five place grid penalty following a gearbox change. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believed the Scuderia's pace was down to a high-power engine mode, though. Read our post-session report here. Both Red Bulls were approximately a second off the quickest time set by Kimi Raikkonen but showed … [Read more...] about Bahrain Grand Prix 2018 qualifying live updates and Lewis Hamilton latest

Kimi Raikkonen led his team-mate Sebastian Vettel for a Ferrari 1-2 in second practice, ahead of Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix. The Finn finished ahead of the German by just 0.011 seconds. The Mercedes cars of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton came in third and fourth respectively, both drivers over half a second behind Raikkonen. The session ended on a slightly sour note for Ferrari, however, as Raikkonen was released from the pits with one of his wheels not correctly attached. The incident was investigated after the session but the Finn escaped a grid penalty for an unsafe release. The team, however, were fined €5,000. The Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo finished in fifth and sixth, around a second off Raikkonen. Ricciardo earlier topped first free practice ahead of Bottas and Raikkonen. Very little should be read into FP1 times, as the session takes place under vastly different conditions to qualifying and the race, which both happen under lights. … [Read more...] about Kimi Raikkonen tops second practice for Bahrain Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes struggle in the desert
GP2 Testing, February 2006 I’d expected him to look older. I suppose its only natural with someone you’d been reading about for years, but he’d been such a constant part of the motorsport landscape for such a long time that I’d imagined he’d already be the finished article. He’d been a mini-megastar in England since his karting days. Even as a child I remember seeing his face on TV, on the news, on ITV’s karting show with DJ David ‘Kid’ Jensen, Blue Peter, through the pages of Autosport and Motoring News. He was a future world champion. That’s what we’d always been told. That’s what we’d always believed. And here he was, this future F1 superstar. I’d expected him to be taller. I’d expected him to be broader… I’d expected him to look older. But there he stood on the pitwall in his ASM F3 overalls, a black fleece three sizes too large wrapped around him, his curly mini-afro blowing in … [Read more...] about The Contenders – Lewis Hamilton
