Home Two wheelers oi-Vedant Jouhari By Vedant Jouhari Updated: Thursday, June 8, 2023, 22:17 [IST] Round one of the Petronas TVS One Make Championship was held at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. It took place from June 2nd to June 4th - and the category I competed in, the Media Category, was only held from the 3rd of June to the 4th (Saturday and Sunday). I would first like to start by thanking TVS for hosting the Young Media Racer Program (YMRP), giving us the experience of racing on track, and providing us with adequate professional training to make the most of the opportunity, too! We reached Coimbatore on Friday night and meeting everyone after months of eager waiting was a refreshing moment. It brought back the buzz, the adrenaline, and the feeling of racing. Then came Saturday. Saturday were the practice and qualifying rounds and Sunday was the race. It felt like a proper race weekend! I'm grateful to have … [Read more...] about PETRONAS TVS One Make Championship Race 1: A Learning Experience

TDS LMP2 car gets three-minute penalty for Le Mans FP1 crash
The TDS-entered ORECA-Gibson 07 entered under the Tower Motorsports banner suffered heavy damage when Thomas clouted the TF Sport-run D'station Aston Martin Vantage GTE that Casper Stevenson had spun into the barriers at the fast sweeper before Tertre Rouge. Several cars avoided the stranded machine before bronze driver Thomas, who was a late replacement for the original entrant John Farano following the Canadian's IMSA SportsCar Championship crash at Laguna Seca, locked up and hit British rookie Stevenson. The stewards found that Thomas had failed to slow sufficiently before the impact, and will have to serve his penalty within four laps of it being formally announced by the race director when the 24 Hours gets underway. TDS and D'station both missed qualifying on Wednesday afternoon while replacement chassis were sourced, and so will start from the back of the grid. TDS driver Rene Rast told Motorsport.com: "We're going to lose probably one and a half laps within the … [Read more...] about TDS LMP2 car gets three-minute penalty for Le Mans FP1 crash
Le Mans 2023 starting grid: What is the grid order for the iconic 24 hour race?
The drivers have all put in their best efforts over one lap, and the grid for Le Mans 2023 has now officially been set as the world’s most iconic endurance race celebrates its 100th anniversary. Qualifying on Wednesday saw the top eight cars in each class qualify for Hyperpole on Thursday night, which set up the battle for pole in each category for Le Mans 2023 ahead of the Centenary running of the legendary 24-hour race. In Hypercars, the long-dominant Toyota team, piloted by ex-F1 drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Brendon Hartley in qualifying, have got a serious challenge on their hands if they are to retain their stranglehold on the race this year. Ferrari, on their factory return to the top class after over 50 years away, qualified first and second for the big race, and by a healthy margin. The race itself will begin on Saturday 10 June at 4pm local time at the Circuit de la Sarthe (3pm BST). PlanetF1.com recommends Le Mans 24 Hours: The 18 ex-Formula 1 drivers to look out … [Read more...] about Le Mans 2023 starting grid: What is the grid order for the iconic 24 hour race?
Mercedes: Canada a “bigger challenge” than Barcelona for upgraded F1 car
At last week's Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell scored a double podium after the Brackley team's comprehensive upgrade package delivered a solid step forward. While Hamilton still finished 24 seconds behind dominant winner Max Verstappen , Mercedes' W14 was the second-strongest car on the high-downforce circuit, providing the team with a solid baseline to continue its recovery. The double podium also elevated Mercedes above Aston Martin to second place in the constructors' standings. But Shovlin, the team's trackside engineering director, expects the Canadian Grand Prix to be a more difficult weekend for the Silver Arrows due to the low-downforce nature of Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, which is the polar opposite of the Barcelona circuit that its revamped 2023 car was competitive at. "The fact is that the update kit works very well around circuits like Barcelona with a lot of high-speed performance," Shovlin said in Mercedes' post-race … [Read more...] about Mercedes: Canada a “bigger challenge” than Barcelona for upgraded F1 car
Van der Zande fears rivals “built cars to suit Le Mans only”
Van der Zande, who shares the #3 Chip Ganassi Racing-run Cadillac V-Series.R with Sebastien Bourdais and Scott Dixon, was speaking prior to Wednesday’s first qualifying session in which the Ferrari and Toyota Le Mans Hypercars set the pace. However, the Dutch driver singled out the speed of the Porsche 963, which like the Caddy is built to LMDh rules. Asked how he perceived the speed of the LMHs, van der Zande told Motorsport.com: “The worry I have is that people build their car to suit Le Mans only. “If you look at the Porsche, their top speed seems to be very good and ours is not very good. “I really hope that nobody pulls something out of the hat while we are here at Le Mans. I think we’ve played very fair and I hope the others do as well.” Ferrari took a 1-2 in the session that decides the eight cars that progress to Thursday’s Hyperpole session, with Bourdais setting the best time for Cadillac just over seven tenths off the pace to go seventh-quickest. Earl Bamber … [Read more...] about Van der Zande fears rivals “built cars to suit Le Mans only”
What are LMH and LMDh? The top Le Mans 24 Hours series explained
That’s two different rulebooks to which a manufacturer can build a car for the top category of the series. So on the 16-stong Hypercar entry for Le Mans this year there are nine LMHs and six LMDhs. What is LMH and LMDh? LMH stands for Le Mans Hypercar, a rulebook that has been in force in the WEC since 2021. LMDh is new for 2023, but you’ll never see the name written out, it’s not officially an acronym. But it is easy to guess what the letters mean given that the class was formulated by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest at Le Mans and IMSA based at Daytona in the USA. That little ‘h’ on the end refers to the fact that these cars, like their LMH rivals, incorporate hybrid technology. The two types of car are very different in some respects, but actually very similar in others. What’s the difference? LMH allows a manufacturer to design and develop its own car from top to tail - or rather from the nose to the tail. That includes all elements of the hybrid system, which, if … [Read more...] about What are LMH and LMDh? The top Le Mans 24 Hours series explained
How Le Mans is using grape residues and hydrogen to drive a sustainable future
Motorsport – and Le Mans in particular – has long been a pioneering proving ground for new technologies. However, as the world zeroes in on net zero goals, reducing carbon emissions in such a high-performance environment for such a long period of time is a major challenge. The race organisers are working with TotalEnergies to explore all the options and Romain Aubry, the company’s Technical Manager – who was born and grew up by the Mulsanne Straight – explains: “There are many different technologies and we are not here to say that one is better than another. “Le Mans is a unique platform for us to test new energy approaches and these include 100% sustainable fuels that were introduced last year; a battery solution we have co-developed with Peugeot and Saft, our affiliates; and a hydrogen refilling solution for MissionH24 project with big plans for the future.” Electric power has been pioneered in Formula E, where TotalEnergies is an EV fluid supplier, and has progressed from … [Read more...] about How Le Mans is using grape residues and hydrogen to drive a sustainable future
