The latest look at the updated Hyundai Tucson development finds the SUV pulling a trailer on a winding road. We expect it to launch first in South Korea and premiere in the US early next year. The Hyundai engineering team covers this Tucson in a mix of a camouflage wrap and black fabric with blocky sections underneath the material. A big panel on the hatchback also distorts the appearance at the rear. Gallery: Hyundai Tucson Facelift Spy Photos 16 Photos The updated Tucson's nose appears to gain redesigned headlights. The upper lights appear to be more angular and have a parallelogram-like shape. The lower illumination seems to have new lamps in the same housing as the current ones. A trapezoidal surround for the lower fascia is partially visible underneath the camouflage. The fabric and blocky panels on the hood hide the design. We can't tell whether there … [Read more...] about Hyundai Tucson Facelift Spied While Towing

VW Bus With Audi S3 Engine And Matching Camper Has Us Seeing Double
We've seen all kinds of custom builds in the camper world, but we haven't seen anything quite like this. Folks, that's a 1963 Volkswagen Type 2 pulling another 1963 Volkswagen Type 2, fifth-wheel style. And to make sure the tow rig has enough power to handle the load, there's a freaking turbocharged four-cylinder Audi S3 engine stuffed into the back. The matching combo looks fantastic, and if you have some spare cash, it's currently for sale. You'll find this clever VW camper at Car & Classic , where it's being auctioned in the UK. As we post this on September 22, the bidding is at £18,000 (approximately $22,000 at current conversion rates) with six days still to go. This is obviously a wholly custom creation, with the auction description stating it's in "impeccable condition." The engine and automatic transmission are said to work well, and the truck maintains a classic Type 2 interior with a few upgrades to accommodate the modern powertrain. Ford Patents Floor Airbag To Prevent Loose Cargo Hitting Occupants
Ford filed a patent for a floor-mounted airbag between the rear seats and the cargo space to keep occupants safe in a collision. The application says this tech could apply to passenger cars or commercial vehicles. The airbag would be hidden underneath the floor in the cargo area near the backs of the rear seats. At least one tether and retractor would hide behind a trim piece along the side pillar. Gallery: Ford Floor Airbag Patent 2 Photos In a collision, the airbag would inflate, and the retractor would pull the tether to haul the bag up to improve the deployment time. It would be C-shaped so that there would be protection along the seatback and the walls. The curtain would at least be taller than the rear seats, potentially as high as the roof. The barrier would keep anything in the cargo bay from striking folks in the back seat. Ford also describes a variant of this system with a portion of the airbag extending over the … [Read more...] about Ford Patents Floor Airbag To Prevent Loose Cargo Hitting Occupants

Lexus Is Not Giving Up On Sedans As Demand Is Still Important
For the first time ever, SUVs represented more than 50 percent of all cars sold in Europe during the first half of 2023, according to market researcher Dataforce. Customers continue to be enamored with sport utility vehicles of all shapes and sizes to the detriment of once-traditional body styles. The good ol' sedan would have to be one of them, but Lexus thinks it's still relevant in some markets despite the obsession many people have with SUVs. Speaking with Australian magazine Drive , Lexus' global brand chief Takashi Watanabe admitted that demand for sedans is dwindling. However, he believes there are still enough people who buy them to warrant the development of new three-box cars: "We continue to see a market (for sedans)… and continue to place importance and focus on sedans." Lexus Electrified Sedan Concept 3 Photos Sedans remain particularly popular in China where the ES accounts for half of Lexus' … [Read more...] about Lexus Is Not Giving Up On Sedans As Demand Is Still Important
Drivers back Singapore qualifying tweak as rule changes again for Japanese GP
Formula 1 drivers supported the FIA’s decision at last weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix not to impose a revised rule which had been introduced at the previous round. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free However the same rule has been changed again for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix . The alteration to the rules followed a series of incidents in recent races and over past seasons where drivers completing flying laps in qualifying encountered other drivers going much more slowly on the track. This has led to several near-misses and prompted warnings a crash could happen unless F1 discourages drivers from congregating at the end of the lap, waiting to start their qualifying runs. This happens as drivers prepare to begin their flying laps and slow down in order to reduce their tyre temperatures. Depending on the nature of the track, they may also try to gain a tow from a rival car or try to avoid starting their lap too close to another car and being negatively … [Read more...] about Drivers back Singapore qualifying tweak as rule changes again for Japanese GP

Goodyear Debuts New Wrangler Boulder MT Tire For “Bold” Off-Roading
Goodyear's family of Wrangler all-terrain tires has a new addition, and if the appearance is any indication, it's not taking any prisoners. This is the new Wrangler Boulder MT, featuring an aggressive tread pattern and three-ply Duraply Technology to help protect the sidewalls whether traversing rocky terrain or muddy trails. What is Duraply Technology? Goodyear doesn't offer details other than to say it adds protection to both the sidewalls and the tread. Speaking of which, the tread utilizes large blocks with wide, deep grooves to help in conditions such as mud and sand. This also helps prevent stones from getting wedged into the tread pattern. Goodyear says its new mud terrain tire is aimed at off-road adventurers looking to tackle extreme terrain, and it certainly looks the part. "Bold off-road adventures require a tire that's tough enough to withstand rugged terrain, without sacrificing handling or performance," said Michiel Kramer, director of product … [Read more...] about Goodyear Debuts New Wrangler Boulder MT Tire For “Bold” Off-Roading
Quartararo: Yamaha’s MotoGP form will be worse if rider, team “not aligned”
The 2021 world champion was left disappointed with Yamaha’s 2024 engine prototype at the Misano test last week, noting that he “expected much better”. “I tested it and the feeling was… I expected much better from this test, but we have to stay positive and try to analyse what happened to improve for [the] Valencia test,” Quartararo said at the time. “I need to test it more, but like I said I expected better. “The feeling is different, but I think I expected more power and [it] was a little bit difficult to say something positive about this engine.” These comments were in stark contrast to Yamaha team director Massimo Meregalli’s, who told motogp.com: “We could get what we expected before we started riding. “We had some targets to reach. Anyway, the new engine is slightly faster, as we expected, consistently. It looks like it’s also easier to ride.” Quartararo’s best speed during the San Marino GP weekend was 298.3km/h in the sprint, while his top speed in the test was … [Read more...] about Quartararo: Yamaha’s MotoGP form will be worse if rider, team “not aligned”
