The Bugatti Chiron is scheduled to make its debut at the 86th Geneva motor show in 2016. After several spy shots and an official confirmation of the car's name, Bugatti has released a teaser of its next hypercar. The image does not reveal much as the car is under a veil, but the side profile looks similar to that of its predecessor, the Veyron. The design is in line with a sketch that Bugatti has been showing to prospective customers and is also similar to the Vision Gran Turismo concept. The Chiron is being shown to select customers and more than 100 orders have already been received. The Chiron is almost done with its final testing phase, with a number of prototypes spotted in several continents for the fine tuning process. Reports suggest that the Chiron will be powered by a redesigned version of the W16 engine that was used in the Veyron, with output figures being quoted at around 1,500 BHP and 1,500 Nm of torque. The new car is likely to make the use of a hybrid electric … [Read more...] about Bugatti Chiron teaser released!
Bugatti chiron spied testing with veyron
Bugatti ended the production of the Veyron with the La Finale. Before the Veyron's production ended, Bugatti started work on a successor, which has been spied on multiple occasions. However, up until now, it was always spotted wearing a Veyron’s body. Several speculative renders later, it appears the ‘Chiron’ has finally been spotted in the wild, giving us the first glimpse at what the production car could look like. A video shared by Auto Bild, shows not one, but two heavily camouflaged Chirons on a road test, along with a Veyron Super Sport, BMW i8 and a Lamborghini Huracan. The test mules feature large rear wings, smaller rear overhangs than the Veyron and rectangular tail lights. Since the cars are heavily camouflaged and are still in the early stages of testing, design alterations cannot be ruled out. Much like how the Huracan was thought to be the ‘Cabrera’, the Chiron will most likely have a different name once produced. The speculated name has … [Read more...] about Spied: Is this the Bugatti Chiron?
There’s no hiding the world’s fastest, most powerful, and most expensive hypercar. And there’s no hiding its replacement, either. Spy photographers spotted a camouflaged prototype for the Veyron successor attracting a small crowd, and were able to snap photos of the car rumored to be called the Chiron. Caught testing in Europe, the prototype wears light camouflage and most of the current Veyron’s body panels, though we can see that it’s undergone a few modifications. While the mule’s interior is everything we expected from a Bugatti, the steering wheel is not. Even with a piece of tape placed over the logo in the center of the multi-function steering wheel, it’s obvious it’s a Volkswagen part, which appears to be taken straight out of the Polo GTI. Don’t expect this to make it to the production car, but it’s still weird to see part from a more pedestrian VW Group model in such an exclusive car. On the outside, the prototype … [Read more...] about Spied! Bugatti Veyron Successor Shows off Potential Hybrid Bits
Bugatti first revealed a teaser for its next-generation hypercar back in August, with a short 30-second video that didn’t really reveal much about the Veyron successor. Thanks to German site Autogespot, technical details of the Bugatti Chiron (unconfirmed name) have surfaced and like before, it involves some big numbers. Under the hood, the Bugatti Chiron is said to be powered by a heavily revised version of the Veyron’s 8.0 litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine, said to produce around 1,479 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque. Where the current Veyron’s engine has 10 radiators to keep it cool, the Chiron will get 15 instead. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is also paired to the massive engine. If those numbers aren’t mind blowing enough, the Chiron is to accomplish the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 2.3 seconds, and from a standstill, it will hit 300 km/h in 15 seconds. To continue the brand’s dominance of having the fastest production car in the world, the … [Read more...] about Bugatti Chiron to get uprated 8.0 litre W16 engine, 1,500 PS, 1,500 Nm, 500 km/h top speed – report
Normally at international car shows it’s easy to pick trends. It’ll be plug-in hybrids, or SUVs, or autonomous cars - or simply cars with too much horsepower - that seem to lead most manufacturers in a particular direction. This year's Geneva motor show did what people have praised it for down the years: it had everything. The Swiss city's biggest motor event has always been popular with exhibitors and attendees because it’s no-one’s home turf. Tata meets Porsche and Subaru meets SsangYong on neutral territory, and the amount of attention anyone gets has nothing to do with a home advantage. You win notice strictly on merit, which is why everyone seems to bring their best work to the expanding-but-still-manageable collection of exhibition halls beside Geneva’s convenient airport. Aston Martin probably took the honours with DB11, simply because a completely new Aston is such a rare event, and everyone seems to love the company at … [Read more...] about 2016 Geneva motor show report and photo gallery
The technical specifications of the Bugatti Chiron have been leaked onto Twitter less than an hour before its official reveal at the 2016 Geneva motor show. A specifications sheet (shown in our gallery) reveals that the car will be powered by a four turbo 16-cylinder engine that produces a staggering 1479bhp at 6700rpm. The W16 unit also produces 1180lb ft of torque between 2000-6000rpm, and sends drive to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox. It's capable of accelerating the Chiron to a limited 261mph top speed. Read our full review of the Bugatti Chiron The Chiron name is taken from the 1920s and 1930s grand prix racer Louis Chiron, who scored notable results in European Championship events for Bugatti, including winning the 1931 French Grand Prix at the wheel of a Bugatti T51. His career was interrupted by the war, but he went on to race for marques including Alfa Romeo, Mercedes and Maserati. Latest spy pictures have shown a late-stage … [Read more...] about 2016 Bugatti Chiron specifications leaked ahead of Geneva debut
The annual Goodwood Festival of Speed returned to Goodwood House - this year celebrating 'the endless pursuit of power’ and with a special focus on BMW. Catch up with what happened on each day below, but first Steve Cropley summarises this year's event. Steve Cropley's Goodwood Festival of Speed report As spectators drifted happily away from the 24th annual running of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it must have struck many that the theme for this year’s event — “the endless pursuit of power” — had been unusually well chosen. Every Goodwood Festival has a theme but this one was closer to reality than usual: the 2016 event featured a better and more potent crop of race cars — plus a larger collection of spectacular road-going supercars — than any seen previously at famous Sussex hillclimb, which for all but four days a year is a quiet single-lane access road connecting Goodwood House to the wooded estate above. For a while this year … [Read more...] about 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed report
In 2016 the car-making industry saw its seventh consecutive year of record sales in the U.S. with 17.55 million purchases in all. So far in 2017 the numbers seem to have finally plateaued, with analysts forecasting a final total closer to 17 million—still not too shabby. Various social, political, and economic factors are driving the slight decline, but don’t blame it on a lack of interesting, exciting, and appealing new vehicles designed to grab our attention. Indeed, the following is filled with more than 100 cars, crossovers, SUVs, and trucks that are either on sale now or will be within a few years. Even so, this lineup is not exhaustive in terms of everything coming down the pipe. It is composed of the top 100-plus machines that pique our interest as the automotive world continues to change on a seemingly daily basis. Although there might come a day when, as some predict, we will see a sad end to our celebration of No Boring Cars, the good news is—as evidenced on … [Read more...] about New and Future Cars for 2018 and Beyond
Bugatti Veyron. Such a thing shouldn't be a shock. We have, after all, already seen the hypercar with a penis on the hood and painted in nearly every single hue that exists on our planet. Take a closer look, though, and we see something altogether different. That's because this isn't a Veyron – it's new, rumored to be a replacement to the Veyron and is allegedly called the Chiron. The first identifier that we're looking at something different are the huge carbon-ceramic brakes, which dwarf the already meaty pans found on the standard Veyron Super Sport. Beyond that, the distinctive snorkel intakes of the Veyron have been replaced with simple NACA ducts, while Bugatti engineers have ditched the car's enormous adjustable rear spoiler. That amputation has allowed our spies to peek into the back of the car, and identify what we think are the components of an electric powertrain. Considering current performance trends, we shouldn't be surprised that Bugatti (and by extension, … [Read more...] about Bugatti Chiron mule caught wearing stylish camo over hybrid drivetrain
