Finger pointed at Bernie Ecclestone regime as Silverstone now looks to thrive
Stuart Pringle, the Silverstone managing director, has claimed that working with Formula 1’s new owners is a breath of fresh air compared to the days when Bernie Ecclestone ran the show. Under the ownership of Liberty Media, F1 has experienced a boom in popularity over recent years with record crowds attending grands prix new and old. Despite being one of the most historic events on the calendar, the British Grand Prix is no exception with Silverstone attracting an audience of 401,000 for the 2022 race. Silverstone has long been at threat from the influx of races in emerging markets, including the United States and Asia, and the British GP’s current contract set to expire in 2024. However, Pringle has praised Liberty’s approach for working with, rather than against, race promoters. Speaking at the Autosport International, as quoted by GPFans: “It’s such a commitment, the British Grand Prix. “The fee is eyewatering, the cost of delivery keeps you awake at night and the … [Read more...] about Finger pointed at Bernie Ecclestone regime as Silverstone now looks to thrive

‘Alice, Darling’: A tale of emotional abuse, oversold as a thriller
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 "Alice, Darling," a drama starring Anna Kendrick as a young woman unable to see that she's in an unhealthy relationship, is grounded by the central performance of its star, who has spoken about her own experience of emotional abuse. Set during a week-long getaway at a lakeside cottage, where Kendrick's title character and two childhood friends (Kaniehtiio Horn and Wunmi Mosaku) have gathered to celebrate a milestone birthday, it's a subtly told tale, inviting us to observe the damage inflicted by Alice's clingy-to-the-point-of-controlling boyfriend, Simon (Charlie Carrick), only via its effect on Alice. Simon, a smarmy British artist, is largely absent from the story, appearing mostly in brief flashbacks and, late in the film, at the cottage itself, uninvited after Alice confesses her whereabouts to him over the phone. (In one early scene together, she lies to him about a business trip … [Read more...] about ‘Alice, Darling’: A tale of emotional abuse, oversold as a thriller
Australia Day focuses on Black recognition in constitution
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 17 CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australians marked the 235th anniversary of British colonization Thursday with a public holiday that evokes anger at Indigenous injustice, focusing national attention on a new government push to acknowledge Australia's first inhabitants in the constitution. The government joined several large corporations in allowing staff the choice of taking the holiday off or working Thursday and taking another day off instead, in recognition of growing public unease at celebrating the 1788 hoisting of the Union Jack at Sydney Cove. There are growing public calls to change the date of Australia Day, which is known to many Indigenous people as Invasion Day and Survival Day, because of the disastrous impacts on First Nations people of British colonists taking their land without a treaty. … [Read more...] about Australia Day focuses on Black recognition in constitution

M-Sport still hopeful of Loeb WRC deal
Listen to this article The nine-time world champion joined the Ford squad for four rallies last season, which included a memorable 80th career WRC win at Monte Carlo last January. Gerhard Berger has had ‘several requests’ to return to F1, but don’t expect one
While ex-Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger is now free of his DTM commitments, he has his doubts on a Formula 1 return. Berger enjoyed a highly successful career racing in the series, winning 10 grands prix across stints with Benetton, Ferrari and McLaren. His career in Formula 1 ran between 1984-1997, with this the final series which he competed in as a racer. He also remained involved in the series after his racing days were finished, serving as competitions director at BMW as he oversaw their return to F1, he was also part-owner of the Toro Rosso team and president of the FIA Single-Seater Commission for a time. And now technically the 63-year-old Austrian is back on the market, having overseen the sale of the series from now former promoter ITR to ADAC, Berger having served as ITR chairman. But, that does not mean that he has his eye on a new Formula 1 project, even if the series is perhaps at the height of its popularity right now. Instead, he now wants to put family time … [Read more...] about Gerhard Berger has had ‘several requests’ to return to F1, but don’t expect one
